We are on the countdown to our holiday with a sitter set up for the troop's hamster.
Went to clean the cage and add a few nice treats for his last week at home and the little fella is stiff as a board :sad2: Now in hamster heaven.
Decided so close to bedtime to wait until tomorrow before telling the troops :scared:

Oh dear!, but I think you've done the right thing not telling the troops tonight. Good luck for tomorrow :grouphug:

Oh no!!!

I suddenly really miss my hamster!

Daft question, but are you SURE that he isn't hibernating or in shock? Seriously, sometimes it happens and they appear deceased, but they aren't!

Bob xoxox

sometimes if you warm them up in your hands they wake up...
hope that it works, if not hope the kids arent tot upset :sad2:

Im so sorry about your hamster, Good idea not telling the troops until tomorrow.

Oh Reid sorry to hear about that.
I will say one thing though, last year my MIL phoned and said the hamster had died, she had wrapped it up+put it in a tin box,and would dh go round and bury it.I went as well and explained to her are you sure it's dead not hibernating, shock(from the dog being near it apparantly),no she said it's been like it all afternoon.Well i took a peak at hammy+believe you and me he was awake all right. The little piece of material she had him in and the box warmed it up nicely.x.

R.I.P little hampster :flower3:

Wise move to wait till the morning before telling the troop :thumbsup2
Hope all goes well when telling them the sad news:grouphug:

Thanks for the suggestions re hibernating, but unfortunately it was clear that rigamortus had set in.

Bless - sorry to hear about the little feller, now dancing in Hamster Heaven.

Hope the troops deal with it ok; we've seen a few hamster through their lives.

Sorry to hear bout your hamster.

Sara. :)

Sorry to hear about the hamster, poor thing! It's too bad they don't live longer. I'm hamster-sitting my DD's furbaby at the moment - hope nothing goes amiss there...

Oh no so sad. I am so sorry, I have had many hamsters, DH has now banned me from keeping one though as I always get so upset when they pass away. :(

Sorry to hear that Reid - and so near your trip:confused3

Hope the troops are not toooo upset in the morning

Sorry to hear about the little fella. They go so quickly i remember when one of ours died the day before we were going away. I cleaned him out to take to my moms and he was fine 2 hours later we realised he had died in the car on the way to moms. Funny enough the other one died a week later while we were on holiday:grouphug:

The one relief was that this did not happen while DD's pal was looking after him :)

Precisely what I was about to post. We had several hamsters when the girls were young and it's always a shock when you discover them like that. They do have such a short life-span. Hope your clan quickly come to terms with the "circle of life" when you break the news in the morning.
