We are on the countdown to our holiday with a sitter set up for the troop's hamster.
Went to clean the cage and add a few nice treats for his last week at home and the little fella is stiff as a board Now in hamster heaven.
Decided so close to bedtime to wait until tomorrow before telling the troops

Daft question, but are you SURE that he isn't hibernating or in shock? Seriously, sometimes it happens and they appear deceased, but they aren't!

Oh Reid sorry to hear about that.
I will say one thing though,last year my MIL phoned and said the hamster had died,she had wrapped it up+put it in a tin box,and would dh go round and bury it.I went as well and explained to her are you sure it's dead not hibernating,shock(from the dog being near it apparantly),no she said it's been like it all afternoon.Well i took a peak at hammy+believe you and me he was awake all right.The little piece of material she had him in and the box warmed it up nicely.x.

Sorry to hear about the little fella. They go so quickly i remember when one of ours died the day before we were going away. I cleaned him out to take to my moms and he was fine 2 hours later we realised he had died in the car on the way to moms. Funny enough the other one died a week later while we were on holiday

Precisely what I was about to post. We had several hamsters when the girls were young and it's always a shock when you discover them like that. They do have such a short life-span. Hope your clan quickly come to terms with the "circle of life" when you break the news in the morning.
