Oh, no! I gained 14 pounds in 3 weeks!

I'm feeling very frustrated! I've been trying to reach my doctor to see if we can switch me to a medicine that doesn't cause weight gain. I've been trying to reach him for almost two weeks now -- this medicine has been causing other problems for me, so I already wanted to switch to a different medicine even before I learned that it can cause weight gain. Now that I think the medicine may be behind my hunger and weight gain, I'm *desperate* to switch to a different medicine instead. But, I haven't been able to reach my doctor. He's never in when I call, and doesn't return my calls. I can look for another doctor, but I'm worried that I'll have gained *all* the weight back by the time I can get in to see someone else.

I've gained 3 more pounds in the two weeks since I first posted here. I am exercising fairly regularly, but it doesn't seem to help. What really upsets me is that it took me about 7 months to lose 30 pounds, and I've gained most of that back in just a few weeks! I feel *so* fat and I think I look fatter already, too. The new clothes I had gotten after losing weight don't fit now.

I'm considering trying to order a different medicine on my own, over the internet.

Judy we have a lot in common!
I'm 41 as well, I'm a vegetarian (no red meat)and if I go off my low carb diet I gain weight.
I was on Atkins for a year the first time, went back to my old ways of eating and gained all my weight I lost back plus some. I went back on Atkins last April and I lost all my weight again.
I think if you can just give yourself a goal of one year with Atkins, give yourself a chance you will do just fine!!!
If you cheat, go right back on induction and don't let yourself cheat for another month. Then if you cheat in a month and eat something tempting, get right back on induction again. You will see the weight just melt off and you'll be very proud of yourself. You can do it!!
If you need help, just pm me:D

Oh bless your heart. I don't know what else that hasn't been said by a lot of WISHERS already. :grouphug:  I struggled with my weight loss for years....and I mean years! I'm 34 years old and have finally found something that works for me....Atkins. I've been "stuck" at 40 pounds loss for a couple of months now, but I really shouldn't be complaining when I hear your story. When I stop exercising is when I notice that my weight loss stalls or I may gain a pound or two. As soon as I get out and start walking...off it comes! :thewave:

Thanks for all the encouragement!

I got fed up with waiting to hear from the doctor who put me on the medicine that might be causing the weight gain. So, I called another doctor that I see, and she prescribed a different drug for me. I've switched to this new drug, and today I re-started my diet. I'll let you know how it goes!

My weight has only gone up a little more in the past two weeks. So, now I've gained a total of 16 pounds in 5 weeks. Not quite as scary as gaining 14 pounds in 3 weeks, but still pretty bad! I hope it comes off as fast as it went on!

The diet I used to lose the weight originally wasn't Atkins. I'm a "pretty intense" vegetarian -- no fish, no chicken, no red meat. I ate a few eggs while on the diet last summer, but found it hard to do. I didn't use to eat eggs at all. Still, I lost weight about as fast as Atkins dieters do -- 20 pounds in two months. I limited myself to 100 grams of carbs a day, and most of that came from fruit and vegetables. Although the carb content was higher than Atkins, the food had "low caloric density" meaning lots of water and fiber and not as much fat as one gets on Atkins. Maybe that's why it worked.

I don't think I could do 20-40 grams of carbs a day as a vegetarian -- anyone here manage that?
