oh no! Forgot to order a sun pass!

We are arriving this coming Tuesday. I meant to order a transportable sun pass thing and load it with some funds so we wouldn't have to pay for the Alamo one.

Is there anyway around this? Is it too late to maybe get one from amazon? I got busy and totally forgot to deal with this!

And if I can get one, what do I have to do to disable/not use the alamo one??

Around Orlando, you can pay all your tolls with cash ..... you just need to pay attention to where the CASH LANE is ..... most toll plazas have been rebuilt to allow an electron payee to zip right thru, while the cash lanes LOOK LIKE an EXIT to the right

You can pick one up at the Publx close to WDW. It's cheaper to use Sunpass than pay cash. You can activate by phone or online.

The folks that think the cash lines are shorter evidently haven't traveled from the east coast to WDW since usually there is only once cash lane & it's always backed up.

I don't think you can use your own Sunpass in a rental car. I looked into this for my last trip. But since the rental already has a transponder, it will read in the express lane. Then your pass will also read and BOTH passes will be charged. If you didn't prepay with the rental company they have a BIG penalty.

I worried about this a lot, but honestly, there are only a couple of tolls between MCO and the parks. And since most people in FL have the tags, I've never had to wait in a line. I wouldn't sweat it at all. Just bring cash because they don't take credit.

Alamo doesn't have transponders in their vehicles and I don't think any of the Orlando agencies do. They all use plate pass. Meaning when you drive through a toll and the system doesn't recognize a transponder, the toll gates take a photo of the license plate. Sun Pass then checks that plate against all of their registered vehicles, and then if there is no match, then they issue a violation.

When you rent a car and register your car on the Sun Pass website, you input the license place information and also indicate it is a rental car. This causes Sun Pass to register the toll to your account before going back to the car rental agency. There is absolutely no issue using a rental car at the tolls with your own transponder. We have done it plenty of times.

As for the OPs issue, just use the cash lines. Just don't take 417 as some of the exits may be SunPass only. If you want, go to Publix or someplace that sells the transponders or stickers after you get to Orlando, but plenty of people go to Orlando without transponders and have no issues. Just be careful of what exits you take. If you do end up getting a charge from Alamo it probably won't be as bad as you think, only $3.95 per day plus actual tolls. Might actually be a better deal than getting your own transponder if you won't be going back to Orlando any time soon.

Sorry to mislead. I guess I read it wrong. Either way, the pay booths are fine. Even the sunpass only exits actually have exact change lanes - no attendant, so coins only.

Take the North Exit and then 528 west to I4 west. All the toll plazas on 528 have cash lanes. I think 417 would also work, but can't vouch for that since we have never taken that from the airport to WDW.

417 works fine ... it costs a little more but you can avoid I-4 which is where the tie ups usually occur.

Just arrived on Tuesday and can confirm that toll lanes between MCO and WDW on 417 all have cash lanes, so no need there for a pass. Less traffic on 417 too.

We use an empty Airborn tube to put quarters in. Works great. They key is to carry quarters, not all the cash lanes have a human and some won't take bills.

I'm considering using Dollar instead of Alamo but they have an obscene toll policy. Either pre-pay $10.49 per day (nuts) or pay a $15 per toll admin fee. Alamo's fee is only $3.95 per day of usage (though that's still ridiculous). Can I order a sun-pass transponder from New Jersey? I do travel to the Miami area about once a year so it may be worthwhile for me to order it.

Sure, but you will need the portable model @ $20 if you want to move it between rental cars.
