DD now has chicken pox. Thankfully she is pretty much ok and only has around a dozen spots which aren't bothering her at all. BUT DS has never had them so we need spots on him asap as we leave in 14 days :scared1:

I don't want to have the decision on whether to go and risk him getting spots we we are away, infecting others, being miserable and maybe not allowed to fly home. Or else not going at all.

Fingers crossed for those spots appearing :sad1:

Oh no, I hope for all your sakes that he wakes up tomorrow covered in them. :wizard: OK, maybe not exactly covered but definitely with a few spots.

Glad your DD isn't suffering too much.

Arrrggghhhhh!!! They know how to time things don't they?!! Hope your DD is ok, my DD was worse before the spots came out. Hopefully your DS will come out in spots quickly or not at all! :thumbsup2

Thanks Ware Bears and Mum to Belle. I've just got a really bad feeling that's it's all going wrong and we'll not be able to go. It's not like me to think the worst but I can't help it. I've really lost heart and just don't want to think about it, after spending the last few months having DLP on the brain, lol!

Mum to Belle, have you told your dd yet about your trip? I seen on my other thread that you hadn't at that time.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Oh poor thing! I will say though that the second child usually take at least two weeks for the spots to show up, sometime it can take up to a month, if they show up at all. But it's the week before the spots that is the most contagious, and up until the last spot has crusted over...

I think Captain Jack had the same dilema last year (or possible the year before) but he ended up going anyway. Just a matter of whether your child is well enough, and if there are any risks to others that need to be summed up. I personally have cancelled a trip in similar circumstances, but only because my Dad had just finished chemo and hadn't had chicken pox before, so with out putting a dampner on things, it's the risk to others too that need to be weighed up.

Saying that though, Dad ans Step Mum went down with Swine flu instead on the last day of our trip two years ago and we had no option but to stay in the park, due to having no hotel and the Eurostar no leaving till 7.30. I hate to think of how many people he would have infected :scared1: but they stayed clear of people and took to sitting down on a bench for 8 hours and watching the world go by, as they didn't want to mix. But that situation couldn't be helped and someone must have given it to them anyway! :lmao:

Fingers crossed everything will work out, I think you will be ok and have a great trip, you have enough time still to watch for spots and DD will be spot free - just take some piriton and ibuprofen with you, but as you may have found out, it's the perios before the spots come out that is the worse for feeling under the weather :thumbsup2

Have just happened upon this site as I am trying to get organised for our first trip to Disneyland Paris next Monday. Saw your dilemma and just wanted to pass this on. My daughter had chicken pox last year, only a few spots came out and the doctor recommended that we put her in a lukewarm bath with bread soda, as it brings out spots and helps them heal faster. Also told me to tell my sister, as my niece had never had them, and it could help bring them out on her if she was going to get them. Saying that she never did, even though she had been here for the week previous to my daughter coming out in spots-they had shared the same bed for the whole week-so you might be lucky!!

Thanks Lisa and Elibax. I'll hunt down some bread soda, i'll try everything and anything! Dd been itchy today so I'm loading her with calomine cream and poxclin mousse. Poor soul. She is surprisingly ok apart from the itching, thankfully, I remember being completely floored with it as a child.

No signs of ds going down with it yet, spot/cranky/sleepy/out-of-sorts watch continues....

I checked easyjet's site today about amending the flight to delay the holiday and their amendment charges for everyone is more than the excess on our travel insurance!

Thanks again everyone.

Try Pitiron to ease the itching, it's recommended on the bottle for chicken pox :D :thumbsup2

Thanks Lisa, she is having that too, we got that from the doctor. The bath seems to have helped calm it down a bit, she hasn't been itching nearly as much. Thanks again.

Oh No the poor love  and poor you all that lovely planning of the surprise then this happens. When dd got them the docs gave her Eurax cream it really helped with the itching for about 8-10 hours, i think you can actually buy this over the counter (I could be wrong) HTH

Not yet - we're planning on tellling her on Friday so we have 10 sleeps countdown before the trip. She is usually ill when we go although not with chicken pox!! We also gave her piriton but I seem to remember that keeping them cool is the key. Not a lot you can do about your DS though, that's the frustrating thing. Big hugs x x x

Eurax cream is great and I can buy it off the shelf in our local Tesco:goodvibes

It is normally between 2 and 3 weeks for siblings to come out in spots so hopefully he will get them much sooner or wait until you are back home.

I think it depends if your son was exposed to the chicken pox at the same time as your daughter. If he was then he would probably get the spots anyday now. If he's catching it from your daughter then from my experience with my 3 its around 2-3 weeks.

Fingers crossed he comes out with the spots soon. I can recommend Eurax for the itching.

Oh, how unlucky is that! I hope it turns out well for you. :flower3:

If it makes you feel better, My daughter had it a few years ago and shares a room with her brother and he never got it despite being around her for the majority of the day.

He then strangely caught it in January from someone at school and passed it to his baby brother who was only 3 weeks old at the time!!!

That was a very tiring few weeks!

Ill keep my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks again everyone for your kind words. DD is getting better, most of her spots have scabbed over and she's not itching too badly. DS is showing signs of getting a cold today  so hopefully this is the start for him (I am the worst parent ever for wishing my child ill :guilty: )

Just have to keep watching and waiting...

Thanks again :flower3:

oh no, what a dilemma, fingers crossed everything works out ok, keep us posted xxx

Hi Carrie, dd is fine thanks. Her spots have scabbed over and she is totally back to her boisterous normal, thankfully!

Ds has had a cold the last few days and was crying during the night with a sore ear. I took him to the doctors this more and he got antibiotics for an infection, wee soul. I asked the doctor if this could be the start of him going down with the pox and he said it was possible. So still the waiting game!

I am feeling a bit more positive about it all and have allowed myself to think about going away, I bought the kids some shorts today! I'm usually super organised (to the anal extent, lol!) but if just not been daring to even think about it much.

Thanks so much for asking.
