I just went for a walk!! I thought I was going to DIE! I used to be able to walk for miles :(

I have a lot of work to do!! :)

(did I mention I hate exercise??)

Gold star on the forehead for Kelsie!!!!

It will get better and better every time, my friend! Way to go! I'm very proud of you!!!!!!!!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Kelsie,
Good for you! Don't think of it as exercise. Use some creative images about how you look while you're stolling along. You're strong, beautiful, determined. You are out there doing it girl! Pretty soon you'll be hiking the back country in Yosemite!

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

Just pretend it's early morning and your at rope drop at the Magic Kingdom! If you don't walk like a lady on a mission you'll have to stand in line at Splash Mountain! See, you just need to be motivated to do this walking stuff!! lol

Keep up the good work!

LMAO, especially since yesterday I dropped my car off to be fixed before we drive to FL and I walked home with DH and with DD in the stroller. Can I just say that I totally underestimated the distance  about 10 minutes into it I said to DH, man am I ever out of shape. whew!! Good for you though Kelsie, as much as you may hate exercise, don't you feel better when you do it? :)

Kels, you are not alone in hating exercise...I hate it too, but I do feel that I am one step closer to my goal each time I do something. I do believe it helps the inches melt off you, and makes you look trimmer even if you aren't loosing weight. I could not walk up a set of stairs...now I can run up a few flights. When I get to the top, I am out of breathe, and panting, but I can make it...before I couldn't even walk them.

You hang in there....it will get easier. I am waiting for DH to get home so I can scoot off to the gym...20 mins on the treadmill, and the nautilus tonight. Already walked 2.68 miles this morning :)

The way I motivate myself to walk is this...........

I live a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG way away from my Best Friend, so every night as I am walking, I think "if I keep walking a few miles every night, eventually I will be there".

:)

Corny I know. (Oh wait, I can't eat corn on Atkins) :p

Well, I will be the first to admit that I hate to walk as well, but I feel so much better after...it is just the "getting going" part of it!!:p

Good for you, Kelsie for taking the first step out the door!! :):)

It's a sad day for me today. Now that Kelsie has gone out to take a walk- it now means that I must do the same! OH -WHY KELSIE, WHY?????

grumble, grumble.......... I guess I should say good going Kelsie! Thanks for the challenge!

Next thing you know she'll be cutting out all the treats and taking Alex on in his Challenge! I'll rue the day!

Get a dog!!!! I love walking with mine. Except right now the may flies are a bit much for both of us!!! I hate the stationary bike
but until the flies are gone, that's what I'm stuck with!!!

It does get easier if you keep at it, Kelsie! When I first started I really struggled to go 1 mile. Now after only a couple of months I can go 3.5 mi & still have energy to keep going. I still have a long way to go. Right now I'm trying to increase my speed a little bit . I don't want to be the slowest person on the trail ay more! Stairs are a lot easier for me now, too. I can hardly believe the difference there. I can't run up them yet, but I can go up 3-4 flights & not have to stop to catch my breath any more. Used to be coming up my basement stairs would just about kill me, but now they're nothing to me.
My best advice is to start off slow & easy, but do it as often as possible. You will soon find yourself wanting to go farther! I also find it helpful to walk with DH. We turn the time we spend walking into some real quality time together. :sunny:
Come to think of it - time for me to get off this computer & go out walking now!

airhead- I thought you said you ATE the stationary bike!!!!!!! :p ;)

I was gonna suggest going on a different food plan if you are lacking in iron that much!! :TEETH:

I don't know- it must be oxygen deprivation from lack of excercise on my part!......

Kelsie, take another walk and go a little further next time. Pretty soon you will be able to walk for miles without getting tired.

I hate exercise too :(

Just remember each time you go it WILL get easier!!! Maybe set some goals for yourself. Is there anything that you want? Maybe treat yourself to a new shirt after you have walked so many miles? Enjoy yourself out there, it is beautiful now that spring is here.

One of my favorite things to do in spring, is to pick one specific tree and look at it as I go by, the leaves and flowers growing daily are just amazing.

The trick is to just do it every day ! It doesn't have to be all at once. Even a few minutes a day helps! Soon you will find that you can go a little farther and then a little farther than that and so on and so on.

One thing that helped me add exercise to my day was a walking program called 10,000 Steps. I needed something to get me motivated to move - spent most of my day sitting! You get a pedometer to keep track of your steps throughout the day. It's pretty painless and it's kind of fun to see the pedometer results. I was surprised at how many steps I do take during the day.

You can join online and get daily email messages. If you enter your steps each day, they keep track of your progress for you. My health insurance plan sponsors this, but anyone can join.

10.000 Steps

I copied this from part of the above website:

The concept of 10,000 steps actually originated in Japan. The Japanese have used electronic pedometers for more than a decade to counteract sedentary lifestyles. A Japanese researcher came up with the idea of 10,000 steps a day as a recommendation for physical activity. The goal of 10,000 Steps appears to be a good goal for the average person. The idea is just now becoming popular in the United States.

You might be surprised to learn that 2,000 steps is equivalent to about a mile. Adults in America typically average 3,000 to 5,000 steps per day. For health, we should all get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most, if not all, days of the week. Walking 10,000 steps a day will help most people meet that recommendation. As you start the program you’ll learn how many steps you usually take in a day. It may average out to 3,000 or 10,000 steps a day. As you set your personal step goals, you’ll want to increase your current step level by 3,000 to 4,000 steps a day to see health improvements. Over the years, we’ve received many great comments from people previously enrolled in the program. Many said using the pedometer was an eye opener – they saw the number of steps they walked in a day – and learned how easy it was to make changes throughout their day to reach 10,000 steps. The pedometer is really a motivational tool!

Walking is the BEST exercise in my eyes- one of these days I'm going to post my after I lost 90 pounds before I gained them back with 3 babies picture!! I did nothing but WALK everyday and boy- I was "whittled" into shape. You'll see huge changes- I've been walking consistently 6 days a week for 3 weeks- and all my clothes have extra baggy room in the "seat"- it's a wonderful feeling to have that clothing swing back and hit you in the butt! And thanks to Alex- I'm now walking 50 minutes a day instead of just 30- boy that makes a difference! I'm sending walking wishes to you- GREAT JOB!!!
Tara
