Oh my GOODNESS...WE'RE BACK!!!! (the end up 6/24)

After our resort loop on the monorail we hopped on the bus back to POR. We had an 8:10 ADR at WCC so we had lots of time to just relax. We decided to head over to the dock at POR and rent a Sea Raycer. We had a coupon for 90 minutes for the price of 60, so we went for it. The CM at the dock gave us a little map and said that would be plenty of time to get to OKW, DTD, and SS before we had to be back. We headed to the boats, got our life jackets (required for all people) and got in the little raycer. They're not big!! DH is 6'1" and couldn't stretch out his legs. I'm only 5'3" so I had plenty of leg room!!! We headed out at 2:45 so we had until 4:15.
Here we are as we were heading out from the dock.

We pulled out from POR and first headed through POR to the FQ.

77898IMG_2068_Medium_-med.JPG

After FQ we kept heading up (or was it down?) the river past the old Treehouse Villas (man those things look like they're in rough shape)

77898IMG_2070_Medium_-med.JPG

and onto to OKW. This was a neat resort for us to see because we had just spent 4 days in Key West. It was cool to see how well themed it was with the little marina (looks like a little mini version of the real thing), the gingerbread architecture, and the light house.

77898IMG_2076_Medium_.JPG

After our spin through OKW we headed back out onto the open waters and over to DTD. There weren't a lot of boats out this day...not sure if it was because it was earlier in the day so people were still at the parks or what. We saw a couple pontoon boats that people had rented, 2 or 3 resort boats, and the lifeguard boat.

Here's some shots from DTD. It looks so much bigger and spread out from the water!!

Our tour of DTD complete, we headed back up (or down?) the river to POR. I thought the dock area was really cool.

77898IMG_2085_Medium_-med.JPG

77898IMG_2086_Medium_-med.JPG

It took us an hour and 15 minutes to make the entire loop. We took our time looking around OKW and DTD, so you could probably do it in just under an hour if you kept moving the whole time. It was a fun way to spend some time doing something different. It cost us $40 (that's the price for 60 min) and we were able to charge it to our room.

After we docked back at POR we were hot and thirsty so we walked over to Ol Man Island to check out the scene. It was CROWDED!!! We decided to just grab a couple of cocktails at Muddy Rivers and head back to the quiet pool at our building. I had some sort of frozen coffee flavored concoction that like $9...it was pretty good, but filling, which worked out fine since we still had 4 hours until dinner. DH had a Bud. On the way back to our building DH decided that it would be wise to go get a $12 six pack of Bud in the gift shop...that's $2/can...he had just paid $4.75 for one...you do the math!! So, I plopped myself down in a chair while he went back to get beer. He dropped 4 off in the fridge, put 2 in the ice bucket and joined me at the pool.

Around 5 we went back up to the room to shower quickly and get the bus back to MK, there were a few more things we wanted to try to see before we went to WL for dinner. We got the bus at 5:30 (again with little to no wait), and we were on our way. We had decided that it was time for another spin on Buzz so we headed to tomorrowland. There was a show just about to start at the Laugh Floor Comedy Club so we did that first. It was SO COOL! What a concept! Our show was pretty funny, and it should definitely be a must do on every trip because every show will be different!

After our laughs we went over to Buzz and it was a walk on. I again talked a lot of smack and got beat! Since there was no wait we went on again, this time I WON!!!

77898IMG_2094_Medium_-med.JPG

77898IMG_2095_Medium_-med.JPG

:cool1: :cool1:

DH couldn't end it on a losing note so we went AGAIN...and I beat him AGAIN! This time our scores were even higher, but we didn't get a pic. That meant he had beat me twice and I had beat him twice. We wanted to have time to look around and have a cocktail before dinner, so we decided to head back out of the park and catch the boat to WL. We completely forgot to use our FPs for Splash and Pooh that we had gotten earlier in the day!!

There was a boat pulling up just as we got to the dock so it was perfect. I had never been to WL so I was excited to see it, and it lived up to the hype. We LOVED LOVED LOVED it. DH asked why we weren't staying there, and I said that it wasn't in the budget this time, but that next time I would certainly look in to it! He didn't flinch when I said next time, so we'll see!! Here are a couple pics from WL

Dh by the GINORMOUS fireplace

77898IMG_2098_Medium_-med.JPG

We explored the lobby a bit and still had about 30 minutes until our ADR, so we headed over to Territory Lounge for a pre-dinner cocktail. I had a pear margarita and DH had one of their local beers. Both were good, not cheap, but we expected that. We sat for a few and then took our drinks out to the lobby and I went and checked us in for our dinner (I think it was about 7:55). I got our buzzer and went back to sit with DH and enjoy our cocktails. This was the first buzzer we had all week

77898IMG_2102_Medium_-med.JPG

:rotfl: Why is he so confused??!!

We only had to wait about 10 minutes, which meant we were seated at 8:05 for our 8:10 ADR. We were seated in the little area off the main dining room, right near the door to the kitchen. It actually worked out great...we had this nice little fireplace next to us

77898IMG_2103_Medium_-med.JPG

a great server (she was from CT, too!) and we could still see what was going on in the main dining room, but we weren't in the middle of it all. Our server started off by asking me if I wanted the margarita of the day...it was cranberry, I said "Yum, yes please" and this is what I got -

77898IMG_2105_Medium_-med.JPG

:scared1:
That's a LOT of margarita...but it was fab!!

We really enjoyed our dinner here. I had the skillet, which included the salad appetizer, and LOVED it. I don't eat sausage so DH had that part of it and said it was really good. I can't remember which desserts we had, but they were both good. DH had the wings (YUM YUM) and the strip steak (just eh).

After we ate (and ate and ate) we rolled ourselves out to the busses and grabbed one for DTD/PI. It came right away!! We took it to PI and got off and headed to the POR stop. This was the only night we had to wait for a bus...I think we waited 20 minutes...not horrible, but not fun. The other people at the stop were NOT happy and I kind of got from their conversations that they had been there for about 15 minutes before we showed up.

After that we had an uneventful ride back to POR and crashed.

Up next - MGM and dinner at 50's

day 4 - Wednesday, 5/9

As I sat down to write this installment I realized that I have almost NO pictures from this day! Not sure why, I guess nothing really struck me as picture worthy!

This morning I got up and got DH up while I was getting ready for the day. Once he was up and ready to go we headed to the food court together to get breakfast on our way out. It was PACKED, and we weren't starving, so we just filled our mugs and headed out to the bus stop instead. The MGM bus came quickly and we were on our way! We were there about 5 minutes before rope drop, it was perfect!!

As soon as the lucky guests of honor yelled "Action" we sprung into action with the rest of the thrill seekers and headed right for the big 2, RNR and TOT. DH does NOT do TOT, so I knew I'd be doing that one solo. He does like RNR though, so we headed there first. The posted wait was 10 minutes, we walked directly into the little holding area before the "recording studio" preshow, and once through that, there was NO line in the alley. I think we were off the ride in about 10 minutes! It was awesome as usual...what a way to get your juices flowing first thing in the AM!!

After our limo ride, DH took our park passes and bag and went to get us some FPs for later, and I went over to TOT. It was about 9:30 by now and the wait was still only posted at 10 minutes. I walked right into the lobby, and since I was a solo traveler they squeezed me into the group that was heading into the library!! After our scary little storm we headed into the basement and I picked the wrong line. Oh well, such is life. Not sure what was going on there, but we stood there for a good 10 minutes not moving while the other line loaded 2 or 3 elevators. Once we were on it was AWESOME. I just love this ride, I think it's my favorite ride anywhere. I got seated front row center, it was so cool!! I was with a mom and youngish boy who had never been before...they were screaming as soon as we moved, it was so funny. They LOVED it!! DH was waiting for me in the gift shop so after we checked out my picture we headed out.

We were both pretty hungry by this point so we headed over to Starring Rolls. We didn't seem to be using many snack credits up to this point so we took the opportunity to use up 4...bagel and coffee for me, cinnamon roll and juice for DH. All were good (the coffee tasted like heaven compared to the POR coffee!!).

After our bellies were happy again we headed over to the Great Movie Ride. I know this ride gets a lot of bad reviews, but for me, the little trip through Munchkinland and the movie montage at the end are worth it. Our tour guide wasn't the best I've ever had, but he certainly wasn't the worst, either, but it was still and entertaining way to pass some time. We did have a group of high school girls on a school trip with us who were...um...obnoxious, though. I gave them my best "I was you 13 years ago and I never would have been this rude" look...it worked for a little while, then I just took to sighing LOUDLY everytime they started talking (above the ride sound system). Oh well.

DH wanted to see LMA so since I wanted to make sure this trip was fun for him, I agreed. I've seen it twice, and it's just not my thing, but since he was not that excited for this trip in general, I pretty much went with the few requests he made. (side note - one night walking back to our room after a park, he looked at me and said "Good job with the vacation planning, I'm having a lot of fun" completely out of the blue...I would have married him all over again right there on the spot!! )

We had some time before the show so we headed to Star Tours. There was the cutest little girl next to us who kept asking her parents if we were going to "real outer space or pretend outer space" LOL. Once we were back on earth we went to visit the Muppets. While this show pales in comparison to Philharmagic, I still love it!

After the show there was about 25 minutes until LMA so we headed over to the theater. We got seats just to the left of the center and up high enough where we were in the shade (it was getting HOT). We sat and relaxed and played the trivia up on the big screen and the time passed quickly until the show was ready to start. DH really enjoyed it, but he had some of the tricks figured out before they even revealed how they were done!

After the show we decided to start heading back to POR for our afternoon siesta. We stopped and used our FPs for RNR on the way out, this time waiting for the front seat (it wasn't a long wait at all, I think there were only 2 groups in front of us.). Here's a pic of our pic

77898IMG_2118_Medium_-med.JPG

On our way out I stopped and got a TOT FP for later, and we headed towards the exit and grabbed the bus back to POR. We stopped at the food court for a late lunch (it was around 2, we had dinner ADRs at 7). I did the make your own pasta and it was SO GOOD, DH got a sandwich. We filled our mugs and used our CS drink to get bottles of water for later. After lunch we went back to the room, changed into bathing suits and grabbed some dirty clothes to do a load of laundry. We sat by the quite pool and sipped a couple of the Buds we had bought yesterday while our laundry was going. Once it was done I brought it back up to the room and promptly fell asleep! DH came up a little while later and woke me up so we could get ready for dinner and our evening plan of heading to the Boardwalk.

We got back to MGM around 5:30ish and had some time to kill before our 6:55 ADR at 50's. I used my TOT FP, the stand-by time was posted at 20 minutes and for the first time all trip, it looked like that was right on!! I walked right on and picked the opposite line from where I had been that morning. This was not a good choice, either. I got the front row again, YAY!! BUT - I ended up next to that guy. You know the one. The one who doesn't believe in DEODORANT!!!!:scared1: It was HOT that day, he had probably been in the park all day, and he was ripe. From the seating arrangement I was going to be stuck between him and the wall. When it was time to board, I offered to let him and his friend go first, but they wouldn't have it. So off we went, me breathing only through my mouth and him being all stinky. Once we were in the drop sequence it wasn't terrible, but it was certainly not a pleasant experience. It also wasn't the best sequence, either, so all in all it was just an "eh" ride. Oh well.

I met DH in the gift shop again, and we made our way back down Hollywood Blvd poking in and out of the shops along the way. We checked in at 6:35 and were told to go play in the den. We headed over to the Tune In lounge and grabbed a couple cocktails.

77898IMG_2124_Medium_-med.JPG

I got Dad's Electric Lemonade

77898IMG_2123_Medium_-med.JPG

and it was YUMMY!! Love the little glow cube.

DH got a beer

77898IMG_2126_Medium_-med.JPG

We were called to our table at exactly 6:55, which was our ADR time. We had a good server (can't remember his name) and DH liked the view finder dessert menu.

77898IMG_2127_Medium_-med.JPG

I had the fried cheese (OMG, it was SO SO SO GOOD), the fried chicken and the s'mores...all were fab. DH had the shrimp cocktail, salmon and make your own sundae. He also had a milkshake with his dinner. He ate everything...and drank the whole milkshake. His belly didn't love him.

Anyway, the plan was to stay for Fantasmic, but DH wasn't feeling it. I reluctantly agreed and we headed out. We decided to walk over to the BW. Our plan was to take our time walking, explore a little, and then head to Jellyrolls (my most favoritist nighttime thing to do at WDW). I snapped a couple pics along the way.

77898IMG_2140_Medium_-med.JPG

77898IMG_2143_Medium_-med.JPG

It was a really nice walk, I'm glad we did it. We walked around BW a little.

77898IMG_2145_Medium_-med.JPG

77898IMG_2147_Medium_-med.JPG

We sat on the beach at YC/BC for a little bit and saw a few of the higher fireworks from Illuminations and just people watched. Around 9:30 we headed to Jellyrolls. There weren't a lot of people there, but it was a great crowd. Once the requests started rolling in people were really into it! Our plan was to spend a few hours here and then take a cab back to POR. We didn't carry much cash with us, but I had grabbed extra for this night because I knew we'd need it. Well, I thought I did. Around midnight I realized that we didn't have enough for a cab, and neither of us had our ATM cards!! We ordered one last drink and headed out because now we had to get the bus to PI and then to POR. (I just checked my notes again and realized that it was THIS night that we had the bad bus service from PI to POR, not the night before. The night before we got off the WL bus at Marketplace and then right on the POR one) Once we FINALLY got back to the room I was going through our bag and found the extra cash that I KNEW I had put in there. We were so mad that we had left early!!!

Oh well, I knew the next morning we'd be thanking ourselves!

Up next - AK and dinner with my cousin and her family at 'Ohana.

It looks like you guys are having a great time. thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the last two updates. Hope your DH is feeling better soon.

We were there at the same time, only staying at Pop Century. The crowds really weren't bad at all, were they? Glad your DH seems to be warming up to WDW.

Thanks! He's feeling a little better everyday.

Nope, not at all! The parks seemed a little more crowded than I expected, but then we'd go to a ride or show or something and we wouldn't have to wait in line!! It was perfect!

We're just back and I was glad to see your updates! Keep 'em coming!

Day 5 - Thursday 5/10

The goal for today was to be at AK for opening, get on EE and the Safari and then hit everything else we wanted to see and be out by noonish. Didn't happen. Not even close!! Oh well, we had been doing really well just going with the flow all week, who was I to stop that now?

We dragged our tired behinds out of bed and went down the the food court for breakfast. We were having an early dinner (early for us anyway, 5:30) because we were joining my cousin and her family at 'Ohana, so the plan was to eat a bigger breakfast than normal, and a smaller lunch so we would be hungry at 5:30. The food court was packed, food lines moved fast, cashier lines didn't, oh well.

We finally arrived at AK at 10:10, got through the bag check and turnstiles pretty quickly, and we were in. We headed right to EE, figuring we'd grab FPs and get some other things done. The times board had a 20 minute wait posted, so we were encouraged! We went over and checked it out and it didn't look like a 20 minute wait. My sister and I had ridden last year during soft opening with a posted 40 minute wait, and this line was not even close to that one. We skipped the FPs and got in the stand by line...we were on in under 10 minutes!! I wasn't sure if DH was going to ride this, but he did, and loved it. It's such a great ride!!

After we escaped the YETI we headed over to KS. As we were walking we heard music and couldn't figure out where it was coming from, then we noticed this boat with lots of characters in it! I had never seen this before!

77898IMG_2152_Medium_-med.JPG

We also spotted Devine.

77898IMG_2153_Medium_.JPG

The wait time was 30 minutes, FP return was about an hour. We opted to FP and head over to the first FOTLK show. DH is not a show guy so it took some convincing...but I won! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. We walked right in just as the preshow stuff was going on and got seated in the Warthog section. The show was fantastic as usual.

We still had some time before our FP return for KS so we headed over to the Tree of Life for ITTAB. We both think this is a funny show. This time only 3 or 4 parents had to get up and leave with their kids...that must be a new record!

77898IMG_2157_Medium_-med.JPG

After we hung out with Flik and friends it was time to go see Little Red on the KS. Everytime I have done this ride it has been at or as close to opening as possible, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was pretty hot out, and it was around noonish at this point. We boarded our bus with almost now wait. It was AWESOME. We saw tons of animals...more than I think I've ever seen, and definitely more than the only other time DH had been on it.
Some pics DH snapped along the way:

77898IMG_2176_Medium_-med.JPG

Little Red was saved once more (they really need a new story line here!) and we were starving. We headed over to Flame Tree BBQ to get some grub. As I said earlier we were having an early dinner, and it was close to 1 at this point, so we split a CS meal. We got the beef sandwich with beans and a diet coke. It was really yummy and the perfect amount of food for the time being. I love the seating areas set back near the water. I snapped a couple pics from our seats.

77898IMG_2179_Medium_-med.JPG

77898IMG_2180_Medium_-med.JPG

Our bellies were content again so we headed to Dinoland. I know people hate this part of the park, but I get it, I think it's neat. It's kind of in an odd spot, but I see where they were going with it. Anyway, Dinosaur had a 20 minute posted wait, we were on in under 10! I LOVE this ride. It's just so fun to me!! The Indy ride at DL is the same concept, I wish they would bring that to MGM! After Dinosaur we decided to try out Primeval Whirl since it was a walk on. We laughed so hard that we cried through this whole thing. It was just the 2 of us in our car so we got slammed around from side to side. What fun!! LOL

DH had been itching to get on Kali so we headed back into Asia. It was HOT out so we figured a little water ride couldn't hurt us, right?? RIGHT??!!
:scared1:
The wait was posted at 20 minutes (I think), we were on in about 10. We had a great group in our raft, talking and laughing the whole time. And then it happened. We got to the part with the drop...and the raft spun JUST RIGHT...and DH and I were in THOSE SEATS. You know the ones. The ones that might as well be UNDER the raft and not in it??!! We were SOAKED. After we made our way off the ride we both headed to the bathrooms...DH took of his shirt and rang it out...I stood as close to the dryer as possible. Didn't help!!! Oh well!

We were just about ready to leave at this point, but I needed one more ride on EE. The wait was posted at 20 minutes so I got in the single rider line. Bad move. I think I waited more than 20 minutes there. I didn't really complain though...the ride is totally worth it, and it gave DH a little more time to stand in the sun and dry off.

Once I got off EE we really had to get moving. We wanted (and thanks to Kali we now NEEDED) to get back to POR to change and freshen up before our dinner at 'Ohana. We headed for the exit, walked out to the bus, had almost no wait, and were back in our room at POR at 3:30!

Up next - part 2, 'Ohana and MK for Spectro.

Good installment! I wish you posted pics of the "drenched" you! :lmao: We have yet to ride that and will definitely be doing it this month!

LOL

I actually thought of that while I was writing, we really should have snapped a couple. There are some on our photopass, but they're not funny enough to spend the $$ on.

It's a fun ride regardless, can't wait to hear if you're in THOSE seats!!

I Just love Dad's Electric Lemonade at the PTC!!
(And I have the exact same picture of my son looking through the View Finder!) Boys just never fully grow up, do they?

What a great trip! (Except for DH's chickenpox. )

Looking forward to more...

Kathy

What a nice AK day. Ours didn't turn out quite so well - just timing and kids and not sure what to do next. We still had fun, mind you, but... :)

Those pictures are terrific, thanks again for sharing!

You know, I don't think they DO grow up...maybe that's what we love about them?!
Thanks for hangin in!!

AK can really do that to you. I always seem to find myself completely bored or running out of time there, it never seems like I get it just right.:confused3
Hope you had a great trip otherwise!

Hi, read the PTR and then life intruded. I am all caught up now. Glad to see/read that you guys had such a wonderful time. It sounds like maybe you may be bringing DH over to the DIsney side. Lot's of Disney, but still lots of relaxing. Next chapter please:surfweb:

ok -- I am all caught up now... whew :goodvibes I am really enjoying your report. I have been to AK so many times and still have not done Kali... I am taking my cousins next month... don't know if it is worth the risk. I am always the one that gets soaked... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

DO IT!!
:rotfl:

DH and I got back to POR to freshen up before dinner around 3:30...as you know from the previous post, we also had to completely change clothes because we had gotten SOAKED on Kali!!

After our change and a little bit of relaxation we headed back to the bus stop to catch the bus to MK to then get the monorail over to the Poly for our dinner at 'Ohana. My cousin, her DH and their 2 DSs were also in WDW at the same time as us so we had made plans to meet for dinner and 'Ohana was our first choice as none of us had been before. We had no wait for the bus or the monorail so we were walking into the Poly by 5:20 for our 5:30 ADR. Jenny and her family were already there so as soon as we got there she checked in and we reminded the hostess that it was her and her DH's 10th anniversary that night. We got a buzzer, went back to where the boys were, and it buzzed a few minutes later. We were seated right on time at a table right near the window overlooking what I think may have been a walkway from the lobby? I don't know the Poly at all so I'm not sure.

I'm going to do a seperate dining report, but I will say that I have mixed feelings about 'Ohana. We had ALL of our food within 10 minutes of sitting down, but barely saw our servers again to ask for more or for DH and I to order drinks from the bar. However, the food was REALLY good. At least a couple of us really liked everything that was brought out, and I could have eaten 1684631357 servings of those potatoes all by myself!!

After we stuffed ourselves and actually had to force Jenny away from the table so that she wouldn't drink the sauce that came with the bread pudding :rotfl2: :rotfl2: , we said our goodbyes. DH and I were headed to MK for the evening to see Spectro and Jenny and family were headed back to Epcot.

DH and I got to MK at about 7:30 and it was CROWDED!! Spectro was only shown Monday and Thursday of this week, so we expected it, and seen almost everything we wanted to see when we were there on Monday. We got through the bag check and turnstiles and headed over to Adventureland to check out POTC. I hadn't seen the refurb with Jack Sparrow so I was excited. The posted wait was 15 minutes, we were on in 5ish (pretty much however long it takes you to get from the door to the boat, the line never stopped moving) OMG - it was AWESOME!! I can't believe how REAL he looks! After Pirates we considered doing Splash since we hadn't made it there the other day, but it wasn't as hot as it been all day, and we didn't want to chance a Kali repeat, so we skipped it. We decided to walk back through the hub to Tomorrowland to ride Buzz one last time, and as we walked through Liberty Square and over the bridge, we realized that people were already getting spots for Spectro, it was about 7:45 and Spectro started at 9!!

We got to Buzz and the wait was 30 minutes posted, so we decided to skip it since we wanted to make sure that WE got a spot for Spectro. We took our time and walked back through Fantasyland and to Liberty Square to stake out a spot. We ended up on a wall to the left of Hall of Presidents (if you're facing it), across from the Liberty Bell. It was 8:15 so we still had about an hour before the parade got to us, so we took turns saving the spots while the other one walked around and used the bathroom.

I just love Spectro, it's my favorite nighttime show at WDW, and I'm so happy that DH "humored" me and stuck it out the whole hour before so I could see it. It was awesome as usual. The changing color float with Cinderella is my FAVORITE part. I wasn't in the best spot for pics, so I didn't take any.

Earlier in the night we had decided we would join the push out of the park and try to catch Wishes from outside, but we quickly changed our minds once we saw the crowd level. After the parade, we cut back over by the HM and headed into Fantastyland. We watched all the little ones ride Dumbo for a while, then we grabbed seats at the little tables next to it and hung out. I got us an ice cream and we shared it while we were watching Wishes, literally from the middle of it!! It was really cool! Granted, you miss the whole "look how cool the fireworks behind the castle" thing is, and you can't see Tink fly, but it's totally worth it to not be standing on top of the person next to you!

Once that was over we crossed back over to the hub and I snapped this pic of the castle on the way

Main Street was still packed, so we just joined the crowd, cut through the stores when we got that far, and made our way to the bus stop. They had connected 2 bus stops to give POR one huge one, and we needed it!! It was mad chaos (which we expected) up to the point where the line actually started, then it was just the waiting game. They sent SEVEN empty busses for POR in a matter of about 5 minutes (they were loading 3-4 at a time). From the time we walked out of MK to the time we got to POR it was an hour...not too bad for a Spectro/Wishes night at MK IMO.

Once we got back to POR we decided to stop into the River Roost and check out the show. We sat at the bar and had a couple beers and just enjoyed...it was a great day to wind down the day. They closed at midnight so it must have been shortly after that that we got back to the room and to bed.

Up next - our last full day  - DTD, DQ, Epcot and our much awaited dinner at Le Cellier

I'll look forward to your dining report. I tried to get (late) an ADR for 'Ohana but couldn't get it, and I kind of wanted to try it. Sounds like another nice evening for you!

Looking forward to hearing about DQ, too. They actually built one in downtown Chicago years back (when I lived in IL) and I went to it, but, as I said, I think it was 9 years ago at least, and it closed there. I enjoyed it as a quick Disney fix back then!
