After waiting three weeks for the one mechanic to drop the engine out of our mini-van and take it to the guy who is rebuilding it, we get a call from the rebuilder saying he can't rebuild it........it is completely destroyed. Which means having to buy a new one or a remanufactured one. Probably $1000 more than we originally planned.

He is supposed to call us later to let us know what he finds and how much he can get one for. This is so frustrating!!!! We still owe $6800 on the van, so trading it in really isn't an option without a stupid motor in it.

My dad has loaned us his car, but it only seats 5, so we can't go anywhere! I am so so so so so so so so bummed!

We are probably looking at close to $4000 to fix. :(

I don't suppose any of it is still under warranty? Hang in there.

I am sorry to hear about your minivan. For some reason, many makes of minivans have engine problems. We just spent $4000 on our 96 Windstar between the head gasket, engine sensors, and a few other issues. It is frustrating and depressing. I hope things work out.

Please tell me it's not a Chrysler. I just got rid of my 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager that I bought 3 years ago and although I still had money owed on it, the trade in and the rebates, paid for what I still owed. At least now I have a new reliable car for the next few years , and under warranty!
I know how depressing this is, I just went through it , although I have a third car that if worse came to worse I could put back on the road.
Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

Bunches of hugs! Hope that it won't cost that much!

have your mechanic check on a JASPER engine,,they come with a 36 month/75000 mile warranty,,,ADVANCE AUTO sells them, you can also check them out online...

When I was about 5 years old, our family (the old station wagon battle tanks) car broke down.

It took us a few month to get a new one because we wouldn't all fit in dad's "Le Car".

So hang in there I am sure it will all go well

Oh yes it is. A 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan. It had 86000 miles on it.

Oh Kristy, I feel your pain!!!
Mine was a 1998 Grand Voyager and it had 103.000 miles on it. The starter started going, along with the oxygen sensor and the catalitic converter I was told would not be too far behind. It left me stranded on the road twice in the same week , so I looked around and found a good deal for a 2003 Chevy Venture. I had two years left to pay on the plymouth , now I started again at 5 but at least the vehicle is under warranty and reliable. I have come to the conclusion that I will always have a car payment and a mortgage payment. :( :(

{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} sweetie, but if I was you I would call Chrysler and complain, it doesn't hurt.

We had the same problems with the 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan. We knew it was going so we traded it in real quick.

Our van has been acting up this summer, too so I know how you feel Kristy!! We have 94,000 miles on our van.

ah yes - those late 90's Chryslers had major engine troubles.
My 1996 Dodge Caravan blew it's engine at a little over 43,000 miles. That was a fun, fun day at the dealership when I threw the world's greatest hissy fit over replacing that sucker.

Hang in there! Sending lots of pixie dust your way.

Our 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan blew a head gasket at 66,000 and then developed a transmission fluid leak a week after the head gasket was replaced. Fortunately, my mechanic friend (who happens to work for Dodge) convinced me to purchase the extended warrenty when we leased the van, so we were only out a couple hundred dollars. Of course, this all happened 3 months before we turned the van back in to the leasing company.

So sorry you are having problems with your minivan. :(
