Oh Dear. Flying Again and Starting to Worry.

After facing my life long fear of flying and successfully getting on a plane with DH for our trip at just two months ago, I am about to fly again in two weeks and am getting scared.
I am just going with my friend; no DH to hold onto and comfort me this time.
I thought I would be okay since I made it last time but I am starting to freak out a little bit and sometimes I want to cry thinking about getting on a plane without a family member, especially DH, with me. This will be the first time EVER that I have gone to WDW without a member of my family. I really am looking forward to being with my friend and having some good old fashioned girl fun(shopping!) but I feel a bit panicky about getting there and coming home.
I checked on our flights and for our flight home, I saw that it is totally booked and now I am worrying about getting bumped and weather issues and a ton of thoughts are racing through my head now.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!

Just think about the millions who fly daily without problems. At least you have your friend. The third time I ever flew, I was by myself (business trip), I was really nervous. After that trip, I had the confidence to fly, I never was worried again. Just tell yourself you can do it, conquer your fears.

Better living through chemistry is my family's motto! Ask your doctor for a few Valium (or equvalent). My sister is still terrified of flying, but manages it with the help of some happy pills. She also finds it helpful to use an eyemask to block out sight, noise cancelling headpones to block out sound, and then just curl up and sleep.

If you don't like the idea of prescription drugs, consider taking some Dramamine. It will knock you out for the duration, and even when you're not sleeping, you'll be too tired to panic. The only problem is that the drowsy effect can last all day, so if you're planning on going to thr parks when you arrive, this may not work very well. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I actually had my doctor put me on a
schedule of prescription pills for the anxiety leading up to and including my flight. I guess I am going to have to do it again for this trip. By the way, what is Dramamine? It's over the counter right? Is it similar to the affects of taking Benedryl? I love the idea of an eye mask and noise canceling earbuds are a great plan.
Thank you!

Dramamine is an over-the-counter motion sickness remedy. And yes, the effect will be similar to taking Benedryl. I sometimes take Bonine, which is like a less drowsy version of Dramamine. It still puts me in a fog for the day, but at least I'm not queasy and headachey after the flight. You might want to try taking whatever you are planning on using before you go, just so you have an idea of how you're going to react to it. Glad I could be of assistance - hope you have a great trip.

I'd be careful with meds. I flew to India earlier this year, 3 flights for a total of 24 hours. I considered taking something to be sure I would be able to sleep, especially on the overnight leg. I decided against it because if there was some kind of inflight emergency I wanted to be sure I was fully aware of what was going on and not drowsy from meds. I was able to sleep on and off but made up for it when I got there.

I take with success - Rescue Remedy. It helps me avoid the side effects from meds.]

Does this stuff really work? My boyfriend is real nervous about his first flight in May and was considering getting meds for it. But I think he would be interested in a natural alternative if it works. What was your experience with it??? Thanks :)

Each person is different, but for me it works great. I'm a non drinker and don't do well with prescription drugs (high sensitivity to side effects, etc). My anxiety for flying is very high. You can take rescue remedy as needed....so I start taking it a couple days prior to flying to keep my nervous system mellow and try to avoid the on set of a panic attack. I choose the liquid form - so keep in mind the amount described on the bottle when bringing liquids through screening. The liquid form can be taken directly (which is how I take it - it has a brandy type taste, and you apply it under your tongue - about 4 drops) or diluted in a cup of water. It takes about 10 minutes and you'll feel calmer and less on edge. You can redose every couple hours or as needed, which I do again right before take off and then mid flight. Sometimes it's enough I can nap lightly too. I have 2 kiddos and prefer to stay alert and not groggy from meds - and this works for me. I'm able to get off the plane still feeling calm and tend to stress less while everyone else is rushing for bags and next destinations. I have no side effects with it. Hope some of the info is helpful ;)

I never even thought about the TSA regs., thanks for the reminder and the info. He has no interest in feeling groggy from prescription meds., so he's planning on giving rescue remedy a try! Thanks again
