Does anyone know if the Circle Vision movie has been updated or should I go and feel totally humiliated once again? :rolleyes1

Nope, the movie has not been updated yet. Even though it is out of date, there is no need to be humiliated by it. You know that things have changed (eg, SkyDome (oops... Rogers Centre) doesn't exist in the movie), but guests that are not from Canada don't. I watch guests come out of that theatre almost on a daily basis and they love it. Some come out humming the song. It makes people want to visit Canada, so it's serving a good purpose. Just enjoy it and have a good chuckle, but no need to be embarassed by it.

It's the movie they show at the Canadian Pavillion at Epcot.

I was a bit disappointed with the Canadian presence. The most diasappointing was the fact that the really great celtic-fusion band playing "Canadian" music was made up of musicians from Florida and North Carolina.

We love the movie it is very nostalgic and it shows the beauty of Canada even if it is showing us dressed in the 70's and 80's LOL.

:rotfl2:

I am just back from Disney World and was so disappointed by the Canadian Pavilion in EPCOT. To add insult to injuries, it was just after a magnificent show at the France Pavilion.

To be fair, I did not visit (no enough time) all other countries pavilions but for France, any body who sees the show would feel positive and would enjoy to watch a movie about everything that is good about France. As a person that has been in France, it reflects the true picture of what is good about France. As for my country, Canada that is, I felt so bad. It is a caricature view of a backward country. It shows a bohemian looking people behaving like the 19th century Canada. It says nothing about our modern Canada: multicultural, vibrant with diverse a fantastic culture and energy. It does not show the beauty of Quebec of being a little bit of Europe in North America. It does not show Quebec City with its fantastic Vieux Quebec; it does not show Montreal with its magnificent tourist life, its festivals and attractions, its restaurants and European culinary; it does not show the modern downtown of Montreal and its vieux quarter with street animations busting with joie de vivre (they did not miss Paris’s in the France show).

It does not show much about Ontario either: the most US like province in Canada; it does not show the beautiful Ottawa with its monuments, museums and pageantry; it passes silent of the tulip festival, it does not mention a word about the striking sceneries of the gatineau parks and most significantly, they forgot about the assets of the Ottawa valley like its historical role and political palaces (Rideau Hall). It almost ignores Toronto, the most vibrant city in Canada. Of course they do not miss the CN tower but I guess that is they see it from the US shores. They pass on the cultural diversity of a city that could be Canada by itself. They forgot about all the things that make Toronto the beacon city of the world. Shockingly, there is no word about NIAGARA FALLS, the most recognizable land mark on earth.

They do little bit of justice to the West and Vancouver to tell how fabulous the scenery is but I guess that fitted within their theme. They barely mention Alberta and the stampede. They pass over the people of Canada, they ignore our first nations people.

At last, as a Canadian I felt little be of embarrassment after seeing the show: it is so pathetic. That probably explains why, unlike the France pavilion, there were a very few crowd; the place was almost empty. And that is not it; everything in that pavilion is caricature of the reality: the log cabin, the hunting, trapping and fishing themes that are dominant. I hope that someone will take the Disney people to a real tour of a real Canada: modern, vibrant, multicultural and industrious.

I often wonder how we would go about speaking to the appropriate folk to try and get the point across that its just not good enough and needs to be improved !
The ironic thing is,if it was better represented, the toursim industry would benefit big time .

Interesting perspective EvilQueen...but it would be nice to have the movie updated

Rumour as it that it is the film that was presented during the 1967 Montreal World's Fair (Expo).

M.P.

I could not have said it better myself Ely...You should get the contract to re-do this Circle Vision Film because you seem to be able to capture all the things that make Canada so special. In fact many of the countries should update their films. World Showcase is very dated and needs a re-haul. I was very disappointed.

My children asked me if the world thinks we are all lumberjacks after visiting the Canada pavillion...sad.

Boy aren't we being tough on our film and pavillion there are so many people from outside of Canada that see that film and actually love it and want to visit our country because of it. I love it ya it is dated but it shows a pure environment no matter how long ago it was.

I saw the movie 2 weeks ago. No, it has not been updated. I was so embarassed. I could not believe that there were no shots of Niagara Falls!
Also, I was told that this is the same movie they showed during Expo 67! Can you believe it? It was really embarassing and looked very old.
I really hope they update this.

Ok a question for everyone. Why update the film Everyone knows about Niagara falls no real need to have it in tehre it isn't a defining part of Canada. So lets update teh film to show our culture ya then it will look like any other country out there I say keep this film is shows our diversity and our pristine nature and the beauty of our country in a time before globalization. It is a huge hit from what we havbe been told by many cast members even if it is dated that I think is what people truly love about it.

Hi, just over here having a look from the UK board. If you guys feel embarrassed how do you think us Brits feel after visiting the UK! :flower:

The main reason the film needs updated is that it appears to be a documentary about living in Canada thru the seventies. Have you seen the clothes and hairstyles? Thirty years is long enough, we need something new.

I agree about the U.K. Pavillion, it also needs an update overpriced chocolate and a Pub do not a U.K. Showcase make.

I love Epcot I would love to see World Showcase expanded.

Me too. Unfortunately (or fortunately depends how you look at it) we never saw the film during our visit because we had got soaking wet in a downpour, rushed to China to keep out of the rain and nearly froze to death watching the Wonders of China. Just didn't feel able to do the same in Canada. Hope to visit again next year so will be on the look out for it.

But the film and the look of the outdoors etc are what others love about the Canada pavillion who cares how we are dressed or how our hair was cut for the film I think it is great and shouldn't be touched.

I'm assuming you've seen the movies from the other pavilions? They put Canada's to shame.
If so, you'll see why the vast majority of posters on this subject agree its an emabarassment. Even although the original reason for having movies such as these (in the various pavilions) was not planned as a tourist promotion for that particular country,it turned out that it did indeed become that. If the Canadian governement was smart, they'd invest a couple of bucks to replace this archaic movie with one the pavilion deserves.

I have seen the others and to be honest I still prefer watching ours it is PURE Canadian in it's simplest form the new film in Japan is well done but I don't care for it I like the show in Norway to and it is still an old film.

Well....I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
But ,now you've sparked my curiosity///I'm going to set up a poll in the Canadian Forum and it'll be interesting to see what the majority think.
