Ogunquit Beach in Maine

Lastly, not in Ogunquit but up the coast a bit in Wells, Maine, they must try the Maine Diner (right on Route 1). They have a lobster pie that must contain a pound of lobster and a pound of butter, smothered beneath a pound of cracker crumbs. Simply fantastic.
Oh, you are making my mouth water. I had the Lobster Pie when we were you there this past October, and I still dream about it. Delicious and amazing. I wanna make the 4 hour drive up there just so I can get some more. :rotfl:

the one concern I would have is the teenagers. There isn't a lot to do in the evenings.

We took board games to play at night. That kept all the kids entertained.

We were married at the Cliff House in Ogunquit so we take a lot of day trips there.

This is my all time favorite place for lunch. It is a lobster joint on a creek, it is BYO anything that is not on the menu. SO- you can bring in wine, beer, I have seen people bring in an entire watermellon full of cut-up fruit, I have brought cheese and crackers for an appitizer. People wheel in big coolers, bring table cloths for the tables, etc... Some have quite the set-up! They just ask you don't take a table more than 2 hours. http://www.chaunceycreek.com/

If they need to escape the cold water and hit the outlets in Kittery, here is another good spot to eat:

We have a time share there. I went a lot last summer. If you go over the bridge there is a part of the beach without waves (under the bridge area) and the water seem warmer. I went on some hot days so maybe that is why. When you go around the rocks it does get cold.

My kids love to go "crabbing" on the bridge. We bought these nets and put hot dogs in them. They fill up with crabs. They keep them for a few hours then throw them back. Good fun.

Oh, you'll definitely NOT want to go to Stonewall Kitchens. ;) It's products are so good that you'll be spending a lot on shipping when you can't get their products close to home. The best is the Maple Chipotle Grilling Sauce. OMG Good!

Has any one stayed at Meadowmere. Im going there at the end of the month. It looks nice on the website. My aunt booked the rooms and has stayed there before. She asked if we wanted a nice hotel or just a reg like motel. I said we might aswell stay somewhere nice

Yes, I have stayed there. It's nice--indoor and outdoor pool along with a Roman spa. Close enough to town that you can walk, but the trolley also stops there as well.

I would love to hear what you think of this place when you get back .. I also saw on the web a place called Beachmere ....passed the names of these places along to him.

I'm chuckling at the Days recommendation (only because it's right up the road from me and you don't normally see it on a national forum! :))

FYI both Big Daddy's (I think that's the ice cream place the poster was referring to near Maine Diner) and Congdon's Donuts are both in Wells, not Ogunquit. (Just a couple miles North on Rte 1., but just a heads up if you're at the townline and haven't hit them- that is why.)

Also- if need something for the teens to do some night, Saco has a movie theater (I think it's even IMAX) as well as a smaller-amusement park (Funtown) and water park (Splashtown). I believe both of those have discounted evening passes.

I actually prefer Popham Beach in Maine to Ogunquit. But that's just me. Lots less 'touristy', lots more room to play.

Congdon's donuts are like a slice of heaven! Get the maple cream. Whenever I am in the area I have donuts for lunch!

For the teenagers I think there is still a movie theater in town. Not a whole lot else for them to do in the evening. I lived there the summer I was 17 which is a long time ago! But even then there was much for young folks at night. Lots of bars for the adults and the little kids would be worn out from the beach. One thought for the teen's would be to drive them to York Beach (Short Sands) which has lots of touristy shops, a pretty good sized arcade, and an amusement park (small) at York's Wild Kingdom.

Repeat after me:

The beach at is Ogunquit is nice, but...

THE WATER IS FREEZING COLD
THE WATER IS REALLY FREEZING COLD
THE WATER IS FREEZING, BONE-CHILLING, MEGA-NUMBING COLD

Thank you! Everytime I think maybe I'd like to visit New England for summer vacation I realize....no, I really don't :laughing:

Big Daddy's is definitely the place I was thinking of. If visitors are planning a trip to the Maine Diner and Big Daddy's, you could see if the Wells Reserve is open to the public that day. They have some really nice exhibits on the estuary and a great walking beach. We usually see deer in the area too. I have a friend who works there. You could have lunch, work off some calories at the Reserve, and then have ice cream before you drive to Congdon's to get donuts! This is making me want to go to Maine soon.

Yorks is a TINY amusement park- most of it is the sort of ride that comes with the traveling carnival (ferris wheel, scrambler, big slide, fun-house-in-a-trailer). Not much to entertain teens. Funtown is no Six Flags, but at least has wooden roller coaster, (small) log flume, etc.

Beachmere is nice. As mentioned, it does not have a pool, which may be important to the teens. (It does have a big hot tub.) The rooms range from really nice with a fireplace to a more "cottage-y" feel. (Our room had a couple twin beds, sort of reminded me of more an old fashioned motel {I don't consider that a bad thing!} vs a high class resort or anything. Just go with that in mind.) We were there on a retreat in the winter time, I can only imagine what it would run in the summer!

It is also a bit of a hike (or a drive, though I'm sure in summer trying to find parking is nuts) to the "downtown" area. You could walk it, but it's definately more on the outskirts than "downtown".

Yes, the place in York is for the younger set. My 5 year old loved it, but it is was geared for her age group. Teens wouldn't have much fun there.

I love Ocgunquit! We hope one day to have a summer home there! Our favorite thing to do is just park and walk the marginal way all the way to the end and have lunch right on the water at the Oarweed
