Offsite scooter rental/Universal Studios dilemma

I'm hoping someone here can help or has some suggestions...

We will be staying at Disney as we will be spending most of our time there, however we will be going to Universal Studios for two of the days. I'm renting a scooter from an offsite company because I unfortunately exceed the weight limit of the ones available in the parks. As of right now, I see no way of getting the scooter from our Disney resort to Universal. With all the walking even just to get to the gates, and the mad rush to WWoHP, I know I'm going to need something.

Am I right in thinking that I'm kind of screwed? I don't believe the rental company will deliver to the park and then pick up that night, even though I'm willing to pay for another rental, and I don't really want to have to use a wheelchair as I don't want to be an inconvience on anyone else who might have to push me. Anyone else have this problem? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can set up appointments with Mear's Transpoortation for accessible taxis each way. Last time I talked to them they had 20 accessible taxis, and the charge is the same as for ordinary taxis. You could set up for a specific time at your Resort to get to USF, and for a specific return time from USF.

Mears has handicapped accessible buses, or there are handicapped accessible taxi's that you can rent. These should be able to take you and your scooter (and family) to Universal and then you call and have them pick you up. This is as long as you are not renting the Dream scooter. If that is the scooter that you are renting, then you are going to have problems at Disney too. Those scooters are too big and heavy for the lifts and do not fit into the ADA guidlines for wheelchairs and scooters. Disney is no longer allowing them to be transported on their buses. If you rent one of them you have to find a different way to transport the scooter.

Thank you both so much! :) I never thought of an accessible taxi. Do either of you know where I can find the number for the Mears taxi? And I'm actually renting from Walker Mobility so hopefully that won't be a problem.

I'm not at home to verify, but I think Mear's Taxi Dispatch is 407-422-2222

Try calling Mears shuttle: (407) 839-1570 (they may refer you to another number, but this should get you started) . On the West Coast, SuperShuttle does charter runs from place to place. If Mears does the same thing, hat should allow you to get you, your family, your luggage and your scooter to WDW after Universal. You also might call the hotel to see if they can suggest a wheelchair taxi.

As the other posters mentioned, Mears is used most often. The number Cheshire Figment posted is the Taxi Dispatch number (which should do the trick) and the other number posted is the general number.

I had meant to post this information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread for a while, so I am doing it now.
