We're arriving at MCO Nov 20, 3:30 PM and have a ressie for a van with Thrifty. I've heard people complain about rental companies not inside the airport - but is it really that big of a deal to get the Thrifty shuttle to their store for renting?
You'll have to decide if the savings is worth it. As another poster noted its only a ~3 mile ride to the lot.
That said, I prefer to rent from a company at the airport, even at a slightly higher price. Have you checked the other on-airport companies carefully? Tried the codes on www.mousesavers.com?
The shuttle run constantly. Incompetence is not a real factor, mechanical breakdowns may be, but, it is highly unlikely. We used to add about 45 min. on to the return time, just to be on the safe side. Never missed a flight, never had a breakdown and always were there on time.
I'd rather rent on-site too at MCO, but we got $200 per week base rate at Thrifty and the closest I could come was more than double that with any on-site company. We're staying two weeks, so that means a difference of several hundred dollars! So I'll keep checking on other codes, but for now, I'm pumped about the ressie I have!
We started to just rent at a DTD location or the CCC.
This way we just take ME and it just takes a few minutes during the mid-day break to pick-up or drop-off the rental. The gas stations are right there so I don't have to worry about the prefill cost or finding a station near the airport.
I know and am using Dollar ( code MCOS01 on web-sight)in Dec it's at the first hotel Govenser (sp).
Also have an Enterprise but it's a bit further down the road but they offer PU-& DO for our Oct trip ay $17 for a standard each weekend day.
I think Hertz is at Doubletree and 2 others but don't have my papers with here. I just typed Walt Disney World on Expedia then put that code into each web-sight and saw what locations were on Hotel Plaza blvd.

Just wanted to give you a heads up. The Hess station adjacent to the Car Care Center is under construction and isn't available. I am not sure when the work will be done.

I was a little apprehensive too...BUT...I just returned from having a minivan from Thrifty (9/23-9/30). First off, the price was great ($191). The shuttle came within 2 minutes of me arriving at the curb at MCO. The driver and I have a nice chat as I was the only one on the shuttle. I'd say it took about 10 minutes to reach the offsite facility. There was a bit of a line (I'm joining the Blue Chip program ASAP), and I waited about 10 minutes until I got to the counter. They handled my reservation quickly, swiped my credit card, and had me in a beautifully clean van lickety split.
Upon returning the van it took them about 30 seconds to check the gas, etc. and the shuttle was right there to take us back to the airport. I will MOST CERTAINLY rent from Thrifty next time I'm in Orlando.
One word of caution...the rental agent told me to fill up the gas within 5 miles of Thrifty, and that they would look at the receipt upon return. The gas at WDW was $2.29. I didn't get any, and I was at about 1/4 tank when I left for MCO. The gas station across from Thrifty was $3.59!!! So, what I should have done (but wasn't smart enough to figure it out then) was to fill up all but a gallon or so on site and then top off the tank closer to Thrifty. They ended up NOT looking at the receipt anyway.
One other tip...when you return the car, follow all the signs to the airport, then follow the signs to Thrifty. I worried about how I'd find the place to return the car, but all the off site places are well signed from the airport. HTH!
