My DIL was filed last week and my member login was deactivated. As trivial as it may sound, that was one of the hardest parts of my divorce. I even avoided the DIS for months because it hurt to be reminded.

All hope is not lost. I have my first solo trip planned for Jan at ASMo and a cruise with my family in Sept. I also dared to look at the resale market and I now having a savings account set aside for funding an SSR contract. With a little luck I'll be a member again this time next year.

And I'm still hanging out on the DVC boards. I'm never truly letting go of this family.

Sorry to hear that news.

As crazy as this will sound, I would advise buying a 50 point resale VB contract as that will get you back into the club and then you can always rent/transfer points into your account whenever you need more.

The VB buy in price can be as low as $45 and that includes current points. Sure the annual dues is a lot more than SSR, but this is the cheapest way to get a DVC membership.

Think about it, for less than $2,500 you can become a member again and immediately book a trip for 50 points (Worth $500-600) so your net cost will be less than $2,000

I vote wait for an SSR contract--MFs are so much less!

I am sorry to hear about this break in membership but just think: now you get to be a prospective DVC'er and who knows--you could even wait for Poly!!! It's like you get all the excitement of looking forward to joining again!

So sorry. I know that can't be easy. It sounds like you have a great plan though to get another DVC contract and a few small Disney trips in the mean time to tide you over.

Best of luck to you in this new chapter of your life.

Enjoy your January trip, and I like your idea to save for an SSR resale contract!
Bobbi:thumbsup2

With every obstacle there comes an opportunity...you will be back on your DVC feet before you know it!! Keep your chin and your dreams high...you cN make it happen!

Good for you, enjoy your stay and cruise. And good luck with the savings account. It sounds like a good idea to save the money.

Best of luck to you. Stick with your plan and you will be a member again before you know it!!

no blue card id checks here ;)
i wish you lots of happiness in your fresh beginnings - it's most often difficult times that help us appreciate the wonderful ones.

and a :thumbsup2 on saving for a contract that will be yours, and yours alone....you earned and deserve it

Thanks everyone! I just love the community we have here. I got called in to work over the holiday weekend, so next paycheck will have some extra money for the SSR fund. And my mom decided she wants to camp with me after thanksgiving next year so I'll be at the Fort this time next year too.

I agree. SSR small points is the way to go. The upfront money is not that big of a difference on a small contract, but those dues differences will add up over time. Plus SSR is experiencing the smallest increases each year (recent history). Here's to geting on your feet again and back "home"

I agree with your reasoning. The low buy in evens out the higher dues. At least for the first 10 or so years. I have one of those 50 point contracts and occasionally I decide that I need to get rid of it, but even with the high dues, that contract isn't costing me what BLT or VGF points would cost. It's really kind of a wash to keep it or dump it.

Of course I've got a few other contracts also, so its a minor part of the whole picture.
