Official Worst Room Location Thread

Our worst was at the BC. We decided to spring for a deluxe and were very excited to have a balcony. When we opened the curtains and stepped out onto our balcony we were looking into the peaked roof of beaches and cream, In front of us was the asphalt and rock flat roof of the restaurant. Big air conditioners whirring away and the smell of french fries wafting into the room ( not so bad at first but the smell gets icky quick) Hotel was full and we couldn't be moved. So that will be the last time we stay at the BC. We will try some other deluxe before heading back.

I think we've had a similar room there. We were directly in front of Stormalong Bay, but the rest of the room view is as you described. That was actually the worst waterview room I've had at BC. Next time I specify a waterview, I'm going to try for the view of the quiet pool with the lake in the distance. We've had those rooms a few times and they're fantastic.

My parents worst room view was also at the BC. They were either on the 4th or 5th floor, the last room before the YC/Convention Center. The room was larger than the regular rooms, with windows on two sides, but it overlooked the convention center dumpsters and it was where all the trucks unloaded their supplies. The noise from the trucks kept them awake all night. They changed rooms after the first night.

That is EXACTLY what happens! Always, ask for a room with 2 Queen Beds at WL! BTW,

I think a lot of resorts put the king rooms on the ground floor so that the people in wheelchairs can get out of the building during a fire. However, WL is notorious.

So I am not imagining this! I am not paranoid! The solos/couples are often stuck into mainly ground floor HA king bed rooms! And there probably aren't a huge number of them to begin with, which makes the available inventory probably just a handful of rooms. No wonder. :(

For my most recent trip, like you wrote earlier, I was dreaming of spending time on my courtyard-view balcony. Then to be assigned (once again) a ground floor room with a view of nothing with a patio with no privacy. I did throw a fit at check-in and got a balcony on the 3rd floor, so all was well in the end. But I think I am done with WL for a good while. I don't enjoy ground floor rooms, and don't want a fight at check-in everytime.

I answered an on-line survery for WL, and I let them know how I felt about their preference of putting solos/couples in ground floor king HA rooms. :sad2:

I actually had a room in the country buliding as ASMu this summer, and I didn't mind it as much as I thought i would. I had requested a closer building, and when she told me country me and my boyfriend glared at eachother, but we turned out to really like it. It was quiet and seculded and we NEVER had a problem with noise or anything. and after all, after a day of walking in the park, whats 30 extra yards? :goodvibes

We stayed stayed in the back section here and I have to say I didn't think it was bad at all. I know a lot of poeple want to be close to the bus stop food court especially after a long day at the parks but really the walk isn't that far . It looks worse on the maps that it really is in my opinion. I think it has more to do with knowing that there are lots and lots of rooms that are much closer to where people want to be. Our walk at CBR from Barbados to Port Royal was about a 10-15 minute walk and we didn't find that bad either and we walked there once a day at least.

If I were there alone w/ my husband, yes, that would have been a splendid way to end the day. However, our party consisted of Me and my 2 kids, 2 and 15 months, My cousin and her 3 kids, ages 5,3, and 15 months.(no husbands on this trip, we were CRAZY!)
So at the end of the day, with the 3 year old's legs setting the pace, the extra walk is an ETERNITY (add the rain ito that for the full effect!)

Our worst room location? Yacht Club. I've selectively blocked out the specific room number. Too many bad memories. From entering the lobby it took us a brisk 15 minute walk to the room. Plus, the room was dirty, old wash cloths and towels were hanging in the shower when we first arrived, no hot water, maintenance banging on the door at 1:00 AM to try to fix the hot water issue, rude staff members. This was by far our worst resort ever. You don't always get what you pay for.:headache:

I agree. I think now I would have no problem staying there. But when we got stuck in the Country section, I was 7 years old and I hardly remember anything from that trip - but I DO remember the loooong walks back to the room at night.

Our room at ASMo in the 101 Dalmation section was just fine. We requested that section b/c I thought our daughters would like it best. Didn't have a clue at that time about requesting more specific rooms. Has anyone used the Unofficial Guide's recommendations to pick a room? We're planning on doing a split between POR/BC for our next trip, and didn't know the best way to pick a room request. The ones from the book seem pretty specific.

I have used the guide to pick a room.
I love Birnbaums though.

Last August we decided to try a deluxe so we stood at the WL in a woodsveiw room. We had an obstructed view of the service area. Every night we had the pleasure of hearing the trucks and all the noise that came from Whispering Cannon until 11pm. I'm not going to even mention the food. Never again!

I'm so sorry you had such an awful view..and we did infact have a similar experience at the WL many years ago. After one night we went right to the front desk and asked if they had another room. I guess we were very lucky, as they did move us to a Courtyard view..and didn't charge us for the upgrade either. I'm big on having a balcony. I especially enjoy sitting outside in the early mornings and evenings. When I found that all I was looking at was a tree..and all we could hear where the sounds of the delivery trucks early in the a.m. I was terribly dissapointed, not to mention the constant smell from the the smoke house. While I love BBQ, I didn't want to smell it 24/7. Fortunately it worked out really well with the change.;) After that experience, we always request the opposite side of the U shaped resort. Of course there are Villas there now, but at one time that was a "woods view" ..only without the chance of trucks and BBQ. Even with the villas now on that side..I've found them very nice to look at..along with the walk/biking trail that leads to FW. I'm curious..did you ask for another location?

No. We arrived late in the evening. I unpacked and went to bed. We didn't see the view really until the following morning and by that time dh didn't want to pack and move. I would have in a heart beat but I didn't want to get into with dh so I just went along with it. Boy was I upset. kwim?

I'm pretty particular about the view..and figure we pay good money for it, we shouldn't have to smell like the smoke house or hear those trucks backing in. I do understand not wanting to repack. Especially when you came in late. Fortunately for me, my kids know not to even unzip one suitcase until I check out the view! Luckily we've always arrived in the morning, or early afternoon and I'll wait for the room view we've requested to become available. I've been known to change rooms more than once! I have found that the staff at the WL is very accomodating.

Woahh...

I think so far the value resorts and wilderness lodge's have the worst view counts.
:headache:

We're staying at WL in December. When we check in we should make sure we're not at ground level (we have 2 kids, so it sounds like we probably won't be) and that we're far away from the restaurants? I didn't pay the $500 extra for a view, so hopefully we're not just out of luck.

I was one of the negative WL posters. I think a lot of the negativity is that the views don't approach expectations for the resort.

Our lousy view at WL was VERY close to the bus stop, and still fairly convenient to the lobby and boat dock.

For me, I think I was more disappointed than disgruntled. My view of the side of VWL was no worse than the parking lot views I had at the CR. I was going through a very stressful time at work, and would visit the DIS and the Disney site almost daily and dream about that beautiful Courtyard View that I had paid to get.

In my mind, I was going to have a beautiful view on the 4th or 5th floor in the center of the resort. I even braced myself that it would be on the side, and on the 2nd or 3rd floor instead of in the center area. I don't think I would have been that disappointed if I had been anywhere in the inner Courtyard including on the 1st floor behind the pool bar as someone else spoke about.

I was very disappointed with Disney that they would call the area overlooking the Villas a Courtyard View. That wasn't the Courtyard we were interested in viewing! Again, we PAID extra for that view, and it was at best...below average. We had just checked out of POR, (for a lot less money) and had a much more delightful room location.

I think it's a shame that you can't pay for and guarantee a view of the inner courtyard. I would be really disappointed if paid for courtyard and ended up getting the villa view...for that reason, I will probly go with Woods view when we finally stay at WL. I reeeely reeely want a view of the inner CY, but Im not willing to pay that money and cross my fingers that I will get it. :sad2:

I find it a shame that people pay for a preferred room and end up half of the time in a totally different location.

Andything in Trinidad South at CBR. :scared: It's so far off from everything, I forget I'm even in the resort! And it's the last bus stop...the AM buses almost always fill up before they get there. We stayed in that location twice several years ago and vowed NEVER again!:sad2:

I feel your pain. We were in the last building of Trinidad South. It was so frustrating to watch the FULL busses zoom on by ... I actually avoided WDW for several YEARS after that stay. I was totally over WDW after being banished to Trinidad South without a car.
