Official Wine and Dine 2017 thread

They didn't announce the changes last year until the original day of early signup. I am sure that many runners had already decided to run the race with the information that they had on the website with the evening race and after party. Once they made the changes many likely continued with their plans. This year, Run Disney had accurate information for the race being a morning race and runners can make an informed decision with this race being essentially the same as all other Disney races. I guess we will find out on Tuesday with how long it takes to fill the race.
I get what you're saying, but they have always made SO FEW SPACES AVAILABLE... hard to believe that even if there is diminished demand the races would ALL still be available on EARLY registration 74min after opening, when they're gone in just a few minutes in past years -- pretty much every race weekend we've ever done.

I'd suspect they've made more available, or there's some other issue.

I think the demand is not what it once was. They moved this to a morning race just like all the other Disney races, very similar courses, and no longer a party right after the race. I really hope they see that people want a night race that is different. After cancelling the half due to weather, anyone can see that weather can happen at any time in Florida.

I agree - was going to sign up for half (ran the W&D "half a half" 2015 at night and Inaugural Lumiere Challenge 2016) but we decided this morning to not sign up based on changes and similarities to the other races we're doing this year. Many I've talked to have decided to sit this one out - much of the appeal was night time run and party immediately following. Based on price increases, significant discounts that can be found weeks before races as travel agents clear unsold inventory, and course changes across the various races, I think each person is re-evaluating their runDisney race portfolio and selectively running fewer races per year.

I can imagine these things having a real impact.

Still don't think ALL races would still be available on early registration day 1.5hrs after opening unless they made more available.

OBVIOUSLY, could be wrong!! :)

Last year we did SW Light Side, SW Dark Side and W&D -- all of them for the first time ever. Courses differed, and it was all interesting enough to us. This year, we only have one set in stone right now: W&D, because we LOVE doing F&W. Not sure if we'll do another rD race in 2017... once DS is old enough to do a 1/2, we're going to to DL Paris if it's still going in 2yrs. :)

I am in for the challenge via early DVC registration. I like visiting during wine and dine and having this race just makes it that much more fun. Still mulling over 5k and may have to be online at noon on Tuesday for that. I just think that the price is steep for a 5k.

Agree that F&W is great - we will still head to FL for it but now have more choice on which weekend(s) we attend (been going past 7 years). 2016 was huge runDisney year for us as well - Dopey, Castaway Challenge, Rebel Challenge, Dark Side Challenge, Dumbo Challenge, Paris 5k/Half and Lumiere Challenge. Paris run was amazing - excellent courses, lots of cheering cast members, unique photo opportunities not found in US and the parks look great with all the prep for their 25th anniversary! You'll love it!

Very cool!! I do hope the Paris race is successful for Disney at that they keep it going. DS is turning 12 in Feb and has to be 14 for a half with Disney (though a lot of others like Rock n Roll races allow a 1/2 at 12yo). Would be awesome to have his 1st half be Paris! The kids have never been, and DH and I only went on our honeymoon! :)

Why did rundisney just send me an official reminder that Wine N Dine registration opens 1/17 (in very small writing) and in the SAME email it says in a large green box that open registration starts March 29th??

I will be a proofreader for them if they need one. I just want my registrations free. Fair trade right?

They must have caught it because mine has the Tuesday January 17 date in the green box

ETA - when I looked at my email on my desktop it showed the correct date in the green box - but when looking on my iphone it shows the March date. Very strange...

Agree. I think it sold out crazy fast for 2016 because people wanted to do the inaugural events (10K, challenge).

Now, they just had DLH registration and WDW registration is up next in a month. People are probably waiting for WDW registration.

Ariel484, are you signing up for Wine and Dine? I rely on you to walk me through all of my questions and I don't know what I will do if you aren't participating!!

rD Proofreading is lacking. When the Half was cancelled last week, the email they sent out said that the race on Saturday, January 8 was cancelled.
Saturday was January 7.

Haha!! Nope, I'm not planning on it for this year, but I would be happy to help with any questions! :)

Sooo...I'm still very much a newbie to this: When can I buy tickets to the post race party? Can I change my merchandise pre order? I haven't ordered anything yet.

Looks like the green button is an image coming from a content caching network (e.g. Akamai) - should fix itself over a few hours or so.

Again, though... EVERY RACE is still available right now, 3+ hours after early registration opened. I'd bet they added more to early reg, or there's some issue. Regardless of any decreased demand this year. This has never happened for any race weekend we've ever registered for.

Could be wrong...! :)

We randomly signed up for the 5k as part of early AP/DVC registration! We had no plans to run anything at Disney until the princess half in 2018 but when the 5k fell on the day before we left for home we couldn't say no! I'm so excited as this'll be our first runDisney race - woohoo

Now the important part: deciding on a running costume! My first thought was Julia Child but we'll see :rotfl:

It appears all races are still open-no sell outs yet. How unusual.

I can imagine it taking longer to book up because they're doing the registration SO EARLY this year, but for EVERYTHING to still be available 50min later? Makes me wonder if they made more available... or knowing rD and Disney IT, maybe it's a mistake!! :rolleyes1

My guess is that, now normal registration isn't filling up at all or very quickly, they have no reason to restrict the number of AP/DVC folks that can register early. The only reason to limit the number of early registrations is if you want to reserve a certain amount for normal registration, but since normal registration is no longer a frenzy, they can let as many AP/DVC folks register as are interested. This is good for the AP/DVC members and shouldn't affect overall normal registration. If true, I think it is a smart move by rD.
