Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

I did GF last year and walked to Poly to get race transport (I originally had Poly booked, but then went to add extra night but Poly was fully and didn't want a split stay). I actually met another woman around the same age also running solo on the walk to Poly. We ended up sitting together on the bus, hanging out at ESPN, and then keeping each other company during the evacuation exercise. No matter which resort you are at, if you are running solo you are always likely to find a new friend on race day :)

We rented points and booked at BC at the 11 month window for Fri-Wed...and so thankful we did! I was totally afraid of waiting and no rooms be available...this has been my dream resort for this race! Although until the actual dates were released we were sweating it. My goal is to do the 10K, breakfast and then lounge by that pool all afternoon.

Actually coming in a day early on Thursday and doing a split stay now that 5K is Friday morning.

@Dis_Yoda wow this sounds like you are definitely embracing the DINE part of Wine&Dine...NICE!!!!

:rotfl2:Anyone who has followed my trip reports/dining reports - that is a really true statement for Dis_Yoda & Husband to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival well! The past few years, I've gone at least 3 weekends!

It's so wrong to leave out the wine part though!

I do love my wine!

I totally agree! A few years ago I met someone in line for the expo and we've actually stayed friends since. I typically see her at all the different races and we keep in touch through Facebook the rest of the year!

I'm starting to come up with a tentative plan for race weekend as well. As I've said before, it will sadly be a quick trip for me, including leaving the evening of the half marathon and no after party (unless something changes job-wise between now and then). :( My plan is to arrive on hopefully Thursday evening, and go to the expo on Friday. After that, I'll probably just spend the rest of Friday taking it easy and doing something like Downtown Disney (oops, I mean Disney Springs!) or the Boardwalk, since I can't really justify the cost of a park ticket for what may end up being just a few hours of that day. Then, the 10K on Saturday, and since that will be over earlier, I'll probably get a one-day ticket for Magic Kingdom to do some rides, see the parade, and maybe even stay for the fireworks (I realized that Wine and Dine weekend is the same as the weekend when the Daylight Savings Time change will happen, so yay for an extra hour Saturday night into Sunday!). After the half marathon on Sunday, I'll have to check out of the resort (nothing booked for that yet - I'll probably just go value and do All-Stars like I did last year), and then I'm thinking of trying to make an ADR for a late breakfast/brunch/lunch. Then it will be time to leave. :( But I was just in WDW for a week for Spring Break, and plan to go back next Spring Break as well, so it's all good. I am definitely not park deprived.

The race changing days totally changed around what our plans are for the week and we still haven't finished figuring it out. We get in Friday, I have a redeye through Atlanta thanks to Delta deciding they no longer wanted the non stop from Seattle they just added in December. I'll meet up with my friend at the airport hopefully and we'll take MDE to Pop. We'll go to the expo and then either back to Pop if our room is ready or we'll get an uber/lyft from the expo to Target, hoping there's a restaurant or two within walking distance, I didn't pay attention to that when we were there in 2014. We'll get breakfast stuff etc, back to Pop and then Disney Springs. We're thinking Deluxe Burgers for dinner since it doesn't look like Edison's will be open by then. Saturday we're doing breakfast at Ohana and this is where our plans had to change. We're going to hit MK not commando and then hop to Epcot for Via Napoli for dinner. Sunday we'll do food in the room, either from what we bought or maybe from the food court. Then pedicures and Beaches and Cream for dinner before the after party. The rest of the week is up in the air now because we had planned on MVMCP on Sunday so we have to decide if we want to go to a park before the party or not and which two days to do Universal. We leave Sat night, so we've still got 6 days of parks to figure out :) And costumes, we need to figure those out too :)

You've all just inspired me to look at my plans!

I arrive on Sunday 30th in the evening (and given it will take me about 25 hours to get there will be exhausted!). I will be staying until Monday the 7th. Hoping to do the Halloween party on the 31st and get in some quality time at the Food & Wine festival. First day is always MK for me :) Even better if I can get CRT for breakfast on day 1. I love to do a dinner at Cali grill at some point every trip. It is the only must do I have every trip. Knowing me there will also be a half day where I do nothing but ride Midway Mania on repeat (I have a PB to defeat!). I also like to do some of the F&W events.

Going to need to change my weekend routine around now that we have a challenge and it is in the morning. Early dinners in the Epcot area on Friday and Saturday night, with maybe a nice big lunch at Marimoto on Saturday. Sunday I was thinking of a celebration meal at Beaches & Cream (I have never been!!!).

When I did the Star Wars in 2015 (my first challenge) Jeff Galloway gave me some great advice at the expo on times to eat and sleep to make it through the weekend. Worked a treat, so I plan to implement it again this time around.

I've never been to Beaches and Cream either which is why I wanted to do it after the race :)

What were the times he gave you for eating and sleeping? Curious, especially since my friend already lives on the east coast so no time change and I'm on the west coast, part of why I take the red eye to help get on the time quicker. It worked well when I lived on the east coast and when I've visited since. Plus I prefer to sleep through the travel, I feel like I'm not wasting time this way :)

Beaches and Cream for dinner before the after party

Beaches & Cream (I have never been!!!)

We ate at Beaches & Cream Princess weekend and it was so good! Highly recommend it!

Also curious what advice Galloway gave you on eating and sleeping times. Would love to have that knowledge prior to making ADRs.

We arrive on the 2nd and leave on the 8th. Right now our plans look like this:

2nd: Arrival late morning, ME to Riverside, check in and head to MK. Dinner at BOG. Wishes

3rd: Breakfast at the food court, Expo, Day at Food & Wine Festival then back to Riverside to see Yee Haw Bob

4th: Dinner at Trattoria al Forno (maybe DHS that day?)

5th: 10K in the am, clean up, relax and rest up for the half, dinner with the cupcakes at Via Napoli

6th: Half, clean up, relax, celebratory dinner at Yachtsman w/ the cupcakes, after party

7th: Massage at Senses, Lunch at the Plaza, MVMCP

8th: Disney Springs and Tragical Express home

We booked BC last year in February. This year, I didn't even expect to be running this race, but BIL expressed an interest in doing it and hubby finally gave me the go-ahead about a week before registration opened. I do expect we will have to deal with buses after the races, but at least we'll be able to walk back to BWI after the party Sunday night.

This will be my first Run Disney race and we are booked for Boardwalk. So excited! What makes you think we will have to deal with buses after the race? Is it just the fact the park might not be open by the time you finish? I'm slow so I don't think I'll have that problem. :)

The buses to the Boardwalk aren't bad at all...and to walk from the finish you'd have to walk through Epcot, which means you need a ticket. Just an FYI.
You've convinced me! That sounds amazing and I may just have to do that!
It's sooooooo good!!

He told me that on Friday and Saturday I should plan to have a late breakfast, followed by lunch at about 2-3pm. Lunch should be the biggest meal of the day on both Friday and Saturday according to him. Dinner would then be about 7, but should be really light (he suggested snack sized). On both Saturday and Sunday also have a pre-race snack. Off your feet from about 5 or 6pm, and in bed around 9pm. Worked a treat for me.
