Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

@afan that's what I was thinking - seems anyone that can decently sew could easily make them short-sleeved (I saw a post on FB where a guy has his Goofy shirt altered to short sleeves). I can't sew but I do have a tailor in my area that I trust...

While on the topic of shirts, does anyone else wish the participant t-shirts were short-sleeved instead of long? I'll love them either way (I love my shirt from last year, even though it's a bit difficult to wear with the course shortening), but I think I'd get more use out of short-sleeved. I guess I'm a little unsure of why the Princess shirts in February are short sleeved, while Wine and Dine in November is long. Seems like the weather for the two times of year are about the same (if not warmer on average in November). Not a big deal, but just a personal preference.

And on another note, I know it will be a while, but I am super excited to see what the medals will look like this year, especially for the 10K and Challenge (I'm thinking the half will be similar to last year's). Perhaps we'll get some kind of idea when the training plans are posted.

Yes! I wear my short-sleeve runDisney shirts all the time for running! I really only wear my long-sleeve ones as casual shirts on chilly days, not as running shirts. I wish they were all short-sleeve! The races ARE in Florida!

Yes. I'm for short sleeves too. Rarely do I run in anything other than a tank or s/s living in Florida.

Now, since I'm here in Pennsylvania visiting, I could use a long sleeve, lol, but I wouldn't wear it often!!!

Hey everyone! I'm new to the board, but I was wondering if anyone had information about Wine & Dine hotel and ticket discounts. I ran W&D in both '14 and '15 and received a discount on both reservations, but when I called this year, they said they were currently not offering one. Did they stop discounts for W&D? Anyone have tips on saving money? Thanks!

Well, if you want to save money and don't mind staying off site, check out Airbnb. I'm bringing the whole family down and we're renting a 6 bedroom house that's about 15-20 minutes from the Epcot parking lot. Sure, we'll miss out on Magic Hours, but the whole house is cheaper than a single room at Port Orleans.

Thanks for the reply, but it's just my boyfriend and I and we prefer to only stay on property. Between the cost of a rental car, the traffic, and the fact that I'm running in three races, it only makes sense to stay on property. I'm just checking if anyone knows more info about the randomness of the runner's discounts.

The prevailing 'best guess' is there won't be a ticket discount nor a race-specific hotel discount. Much like the other 'challenge' weekend races.

That said, it's still a slow(er) time of year and there will be some lodging discounts, public and AP.

Believe me, I get it. We prefer to stay on property as well, but if you really want to save money, you can get a one bedroom apartment and a rental car for less than a room even after discounts. (Having your own kitchen can also save a lot.) It's worth checking out. We're already looking at Airbnb for Dopey next year.

I have 1 long sleeve tech shirt I got on clearance that I've worn once when it was raining and I needed more warmth under my rain coat. The other times I've ran in the rain it was colder and I had a fleece or another jacket under my rain coat. Should have worn the long sleeve today instead of the jacket, but now I know for 2 weeks for the 12k that I'll be happier in the long sleeve and my annoying running belt than the jacket, which didn't stay put and bounced too much with the normal stuff in my pockets.

I would prefer a short sleeve, it would get worn more. Especially if I don't end up doing a Dec. or spring race again I won't need to train in the winter. It is weird being in Florida that they would do long sleeve. But there's a fantastic alterations place in the mall near me so maybe I'll have her shorten the sleeves :) Worth the less than $20 that it would probably be to have a shirt I will wear more than a handful of times a year.
I hadn't thought of that idea. Might be something to consider doing. :) But yeah, I still don't get either why any of the shirts for any of the race weekends would be long-sleeved being in Florida.

They essentially just arent offering any, anymore. They had been for W&D because it was a smaller race and a slow time of year. But with a larger weekend now, they will fill the rooms anyway. So no need to.

Re the shirts...I really do not like the short sleeved! That weird high v neck just seems to choke me. With the longer sleeves it seems to at least stay in place better. Maybe I should just start ordering mens.

I'm a DVC member, and the selection of rooms for that weekend is very limited. We've gone to Food & Wine past years over Columbus Day weekend, but it's been crowded and too hot. We were hoping for a slower weekend in November. Do the racing crowds translate into crowds at the parks, particularly Epcot? I'm running, so no complaints. Just wondering about the crowds.

Hi everyone!!

I am from NY. This time will be my second time with runDisney, I did the Princess 5K in February and I enjoyed so much. This time, I registered for the Lumiere's Two Course and I can't wait!!!

I want to ask if anyone who know where to stay is best for a solo runner?

Any tips will be appreciate!

Thank you in advance!

I have the same issue! I rarely wear my short sleeve rD shirts. But the long sleeves get worn a lot more than I ever expected, given that I live in FL... they're the perfect extra layer for rainy summer evenings down here! Not too warm, quick-drying, and a light layer to fend off whatever mist/drops get past my umbrella.

I want to order my runDisney shirts on the Disney Store website, but it looks like I might be between sizes. If I order two sizes with the intention of keeping the one that fits best, are they fully returnable? Can I return to a Disney brick and mortar store or do I have to mail it back? Thanks!!

I'm technically between sizes as well. I am a typically dead on women's medium but with Champion, I get larges. They are extremely fitted (naturally like most running gear). I have to get large due to my partners in crime; my tatas won't fit in the mediums! Lol. I'm wearing my Princess Half Champion fitted tee now (same as the ones on the website) and it is larger around my waist but much more comfortable every where else.

I asked the Disney Store customer service about returns on these shirts last week. I ordered the 10K training shirt before my charity was able to bump me up to the Challenge. I was told that I would have to return the 10k shirt via mail back to the Disney Store, and NOT to a brick & mortar store. I'm not so sure I 100% believed her as Disney does allow a lot of returns to Disney Store/Outlets. It's all very confusing as a consumer if you ask me! However, just going by what the DS rep told me, I would be prepared to have to return the shirt you do not want by mail.

Yes, it is VERY crowded that week. That's always been a tough weekend for DVC rooms but I thought for sure I could get poly for 7 months out and it was booked!!!! It's only about 25% sold and they've declared more than 50% of the rooms, So I guess almost everyone that owns points is staying there that weekend. Also you have Jersey week, so the whole state is at WDW. It's a week earlier than Veterans day this year so not sure if that will have a big impact. Just don't plan on going to F&w on Friday or Saturday night because it is a complete madhouse.

Nikki, your responses are always so informative and also so fun to read. Thanks for that! Are the Disney shirt fits pretty consistent? Meaning they ALL run tight or large? Or are they different from event to event?

I notice that's I'm 90% a men's medium for almost all my outside disney runs. But most of those shirts I don't care about. The Disney ones, I definitely want to fit.

I have frequently made long sleeve shirts into short sleeves without any sewing. You can just buy iron on fusing from a craft store ( Hobby Lobby). It comes in strips. Cut the sleeves the length you want them plus about 1 inch. Fold the inch under, put the fusing in between and iron it. Works great.
