Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

I have a question that has likely been discussed around here at some point, but this is my first experience with the Kids' Races.

I see that there will be Kids Races on both Friday and Saturday. When will we know the day and time of the race we sign up for? Will we know immediately? Or later on once he/she is assigned a heat? TIA

So the Kids races for the 3 year old set (think 100 meter dash) are pretty much a free for all. They do give you the time when the race schedule comes out--it is usually 11 am for the 100 meter, or at least was both years at marathon weekend. It was the same time both days.

You actually pick the date you want to sign up for at registration. You would purchase a slot on Fri, for example. I think they give you the time then, but if they don't it will be in the schedule. At least with the little ones, they are not assigned a heat, it is just a line up .... release the first row wave. then the second.... etc.

Sounds like chaos! lol

Thank you for the reply. That really helps. I'm glad to be able to chose the day and know the time so quickly. That way we can schedule dining, fast passes, etc. around it.

No but my guess is it'll be all resorts, since that is what happened for Dark Side.

How long has that been going on? I haven't run any Disney races since the DL Half in 2012 (and OMG has it been that long, I just realized?). But in that case - yay!

Also, Ariel, I realized after clicking on one of your trip reports that I lurked there before, so HI! Presumably you are running the W&D this year?

And, just because I am curious - what do you mean about those that deferred from 2015? I thought RunDisney never did that.

About 2 years ago, rD started letting you defer races ( for a price) to the following year. I think it cost me $55 for the 2015 WnD after we couldn't get DW registered.
Today I got a special link from RunDisney for registering in this years race

Ok, weird question--but I heard this and want to confirm: do people wear 'throwaway' shirts that they toss off to the side after heating up in the race? I think I might need to do that for the half--I'd rather wear a cheapo shirt and discard it than have to deal with tying one around my waist, but if it's not actually a 'thing' I sure don't want to be littering my dirty laundry :)

Definitely. People do this all the time. I use old race shirts that I no longer want, sets of PJs from overseas flights, or even a cheap pair of sweats picked up at Sports Authority to keep warm before the race. Disney collects all the discarded clothing and donates it to local shelters. I want to say they collected 25,000 lbs of clothing during Disney on Ice in 2010.

Marathon and Princess weekend have had all resorts as host resorts for awhile now. Dark Side is new this year.

And HI! :) Yep, that's the plan for this year. Assuming I can stay healthy!

@banzai25 already explained deferrals - basically a nice option for if you get injured and can't participate or whatever. Only a certain number of spots available for that

hey, they sent out deferrals! That's progress! :)

Sadly, it looks like deferrals might be going away. The feedback I received from runDisney was that there would be no deferrals for Star Wars Dark Side next month. Hopefully this is not the case, and conflicting reports do say otherwise, or else I'll be out several hundred dollars in entry fees.

Okay - hotel arrangements now finalized (going to try boardwalk for the first time), and some serious costume planning has begun. I just need registration to hurry up! :Pinkbounc

That would really annoy me. They can resell the bibs throught travel providers, after all.

I KNOOOOOW. I am hearing conflicting reports of this as well. I really hope that they aren't going away, but at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised. :( I'd also be out a few hundred bucks.

I've always seen a date to select when signing up, then you pick the distance, which is based on age. However, I've heard more than one person say that there was no date when they signed up. As was previously said, they just line everyone up and let some go at a time. Kids that are running on their own get to be at the very front. This proved to provide some entertainment because my son was in the 200 and had to wait for other races to start/finish before him. A couple of times, the kids heard the announcer yell GO! (for another distance) and took off.... parents chasing after them yelling at them to stop.

Lurker here! Not happy about the time change for the Half, but I'll still be going!!

Question about the after party- do you need a park ticket to get in? Or no? I'm thinking I could do AK (after a nap), then heading over to the party!! It'd be nice to save ona ticket!

After-party ticket is included with your half marathon registration. If you are not running the half, you'll need to purchase the separate ticket. In past year's we've gotten wristbands to wear to get into the after party so I'm guessing it'll be something similar. :)

Hi all - long time W.I.S.H reader here. I've done a ton of Disney races, but this will be my first time attempting early registration - which seems more daunting than finishing the actual event!

Do I need to do anything ahead of time (other than have an Active account)? Will the registration link require that I enter my AP number or require that I log-in with an account linked to my AP?

Thanks - and sorry if I've missed a discussion on this previously.

Having your account ready is the most important thing. I guess too just figure out what order you want to register for events in (so if you're doing the 5K and the 10K, which one do you want to register for first?)...and no, you don't have to enter an AP number, but you should log into your AP account to get the early link.

So if you don't yet have a time to submit can you skip that part completely during registration, or do you still put in an estimate? Thanks.

Last year, I recall it was just a check box during registration. A la- check here if you plan to finish in less than 3 hours and 15 minutes (since changed)

Added- they never asked me to input a projected finish time last year. When I submitted race, URL, time, and distance prior to 8/1, the system projected for DW and I our finish times.

Do they still do resort room discounts? I know that I used the discount on rooms last year for wine and dine.

This is so frustrating - I still don't know how one is supposed to register early as an Annual Passholder. I can access the site and get to the runDisney early registration page without logging in, but can't when I am logged in. Has anybody else who has an AP been able to get it to work?

They've changed how they are doing registration for the last few races...I think it was at some point after registration for the 2015 Disneyland Half races.

They're still going to post the links like they usually do, or you can search for them. Each adult needs their own account/log-in (if you're registering a minor, you should be able to do that from an adult account).
Sorry to keep harping on this point, but is the registration via the RunDIS website, or the Active.com website? Ariel484 you've already been so helpful about this and I'm sure I look like a complete idiot right now, but I'm clueless about this process and am more than a bit anxious about messing it up and not getting a spot!
