Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Wasn't this 3:15 before?? The 16min/mi requirement means 3.5 hrs. Doesn't it seem like a wide spread not to require proof of time for ANYTHING 2:45 through 3:30? Makes me think those slower corrals will be more of a mess...
Yeah , I read they changed it to the 2:45 for Disneyland so it's the same as that not the old 3:15 or whatever it was. People will submit anyway though I'm sure.

I am following along to some discussions on twitter and it doesn't seem like many are very happy about this.

For example people are upset that
running through three parks
Osborne lights
running at night
after party
All four are gone

Many are complaining that its just another early morning $200 Disney Half marathon. It has lost its uniqueness.

Either way I would still like to run it eventually.

I totally understand if people are happy it is a morning race. But I am not pleased that those who liked a night race were just shut out. So morning runners now have what, at least 4 race options? And night runners have zero. Just wish it was not a one sided thing is all.

On the bright side - I like the themes they picked for the 10K and challenge a LOT. And I'm glad that the weekend as a whole is still Food & Wine themed.

But I'm not loving the course going from 3 parks to 2...or the change to a daytime race...or the late notice. I think this was handled really, really poorly, but I don't think it'll matter - everything will still sell out.

I am actually wondering if it will take awhile this time. The night race and party aspects were the selling point for a lot of people. Is this finally what breaks the RD back?

I understand the frustration on DVC people and I think Disney should do something considering the fact that the dates were on the site for so long. I don't think that this is now another morning race with a hard ticket event attached. Runners will be able to get into party. Friends, family who buy tickets will be able to get in. The party won't be any more crowded then it is after the night race. The party tickets are still capped. I'm sure there are some that booked flights, but given the uncertainty of the RunDisney site in the past I will not book anything until a few months in advance because how can I be sure. They've changed things in the past. I'm sorry you are frustrated and I feel for the people who have booked things already.

I'm beyond excited and can't wait to participate in this!

This past year with the shortened course everyone arrived around the same time (just like they will now this year). It was super crowded. Lines everywhere. And now they look to be adding even more runners.

yes, but isn't it just for family and friends of the runners? it uses the term exclusive after party, for runners, family and friends? the person above made mention of regular disney guests buying tickets? this is my first one, so excuse me if I'm not understanding :)

It is exclusive in that anyone can buy a ticket. Lol. They do not require any proof whatsoever, so I am sure some people treat it as just another ticketed event.

As someone who has run every W&D , I personally HATE these changes.

I enjoy the challenge races, but this race was truly unique in its atmosphere. I loved that it was a night race, and the atmosphere at the pre-party, on the course, and at the after-party was unique among RunDisney races. The after party will be a truly diminished experience for us because I have been fortunate enough to be able to finish in the top 5-10%. We were often able to do a food and wine lap around the World Showcase as well ride the rides before it got really busy.

That being said, there were many runners who had difficulties adjusting to running at an odd time for them, and many never truly got to enjoy the party due to giving it all just to finish. Many are too tired, too sore, and it gets CROWDED as the night wears on.

It was also pretty terrible to change the dates of the event after having it posted for months.

So big bummer for me, and a BIG loss in terms of unique race experiences, but I think it will actually be better for many.

One of the best things about this race was that it was at night. It completely set it apart. I'm more upset with how they went about these changes, and the negative impact that they're going to have on some of the runners.

Though I'm still upset that there is a challenge and I'll be missing it.

Oh runDisney you burn me and I still give you my money.

I will miss the night run but it really put a crimp in your trip. You lose big chunks of two days under the old system. Now you can enjoy more park time so that's a plus if you let it be one. There has been a lot of folks clamoring for a 10K and Challenge for this weekend, too, so props to rD for answering the fans. That said, I will really really miss the Christmas theming. That was my favorite part of going to WDW in November.

I think it's really funny how theoretically, everyone loves Wine and Dine and in practice, I think everyone I know has always complained about something. The heavy rain, the shortened course, the first year was a nightmare in terms of logistics... It used to be a morning race, once upon a time, too. Sometimes I think runDisney was playing a joke on the runners when they made 2015's jacket have "wine less, run more" on the back. I feel like this is the great in theory race that has never lived up to anyone's expectations.

No race has ever been perfect, but this race has had several great year.

Bad weather can happen at any time. There was 1 year with rain and one with thunderstorms. The shortened race was unfortunate, but was absolutely the best decision in terms of safety and runner experience. A morning race doesn't guarantee that the same thing won't happen again.

I would absolutely agree that there were some bad logistical kinks the first year, but they worked those out for the most part.

This was my favorite race. The fact that it sells out so ridiculously fast tells me I am not alone in that opinion. It was unique experience among RunDisney races. Those that don't appreciate the things that made it unique could choose literally any other RunDisney race to get their morning race experience.

My 3 cents- I'm in the very happy camp about the changes..

While I've run w&d twice (last time being the splash n dash) and tower once I think I agree with the it was a fantastic idea reality never worked out as well..

Weather was cursed once it moved to November..

The idea of the after party was great till you factor in the slower runners who automatically miss out on a lot of the party, those who didn't train properly to run a half then wander x more miles in a park, with liquor and rides (the stories I've heard from cms..) not factoring in those who didn't train properly for a night race (I've never seen so many people go down during races as I have the years I ran w&d- quite a few were just trips n falls as you could tell their 'night running eyes weren't working (those that run at night know what I mean- it's just different)

To me for run dis I can easily see how to them w&d was the biggest liability with their clientele add the weather and it makes complete sense why it moved...

I agree with most of your points.

In terms of the after party this change will likely be positive for most people.

My anecdotal observation would agree that this race had a higher incidence of people having issues than other races. People ate poorly beforehand, prepared poorly, didn't run at night in preparation, and drank too much after dehydration.

I completely understand the arguments for the changes, but I am still disappointed that the experience my wife and I enjoyed so much is no more.

Interesting point about falls and such, and not training for a night race. Now that you mention it, my sister and I did spot more "casualties" of various kinds at that ToT race we did. We trained at night since we knew it was a night race: how to handle food, how it would go after walking around for a full day, just getting used to running in the dark, etc. I'm sure some didn't.

Not gonna' lie... I'll still miss the chance to do a night race. :) The other night ones we've done are local 5Ks -- not the same, to be sure.

W&D used to be my second most desired rD race. Sadly if these changes are to remain permanent, I couldn't care less about running it. RD has successfully made all races weekends(minus one) cookie-cutter products. Gone are EE, ToT, relay races, etc. I would hope rD would have added so egging to each race weekend to make it stand out or unique, but only one does so.

But like Disney riding the cash cow that is Frozen, rD is following suit and playing things safe.

Question for anyone that might know. If my husband provides his proof time from Princess 2015 and then PR's at a race this coming May, can he contact RunDisney or Track Shack to update his proof time? He wants to make sure he gets the best possible corral.

If it's before their stated deadline to submit proof of time, you can update it. I believe most recently this has been done via Active.

If you check out the W&D Half right now under Registration, Proof of Time, you'll see a link to "Update your proof of time" that goes to Active where you change it. (http://www.rundisney.com/wine-and-dine-half-marathon/#proof-of-time)

I just checked, and I also received an email on Nov 11 about submitting/updating proof of time for the Dark Side Half by the deadline. The email had a link in it to Active where the change could be made...

Thank you for the information.

W&D has been "out" for me since they moved it to be the same weekend as NYCM, but I've run it twice, and while running at night isn't how I run best, it was really fun. It's a shame Disney has decided to make the race look like every other one.

They still limit the number of tickets. It's not a free-for-all. If it's a hard ticketed event they will kick people out when it starts. We went to MVMCP last year after W&D and they kicked people out who didn't have a wristband at 7. Yeah, sure, some will run and hide but eventually you will need to go. The vendors and CMs will probably be looking for whatever they make our 'ticket.'

I'm just honestly sitting here laughing and screaming at the computer so I'm going to keep my mouth shut.

The hours for the post race party are 8pm-1am,Epcot closes religiously at 9pm every night except for weekends during F&W and during the holidays,I pretty much guarantee you they will not be kicking regular park guests out at 8pm.After Illuminations ends at 9:13pm will begin the process of kicking out day guests.I think they picked those hours so those runners going in at 8pm can also watch Illuminations.
