Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Thanks! I feel kind of sheepish because when I registered for the drawing months ago odds are good that I wasn't quite sober and rather forgot that I even did it in the first place ... until I was charged the race fee today! So, yay! It's a bucket list thing that is happening much earlier in life than I was expecting! :lmao:
I kind of love you.
yeah, with pictures of HFCS-sweetened PowerAde being handed over...yeah, that's some high nutrition right there!

It's like that hashtag ear-hat contest from a couple weeks ago showing 3 women *holding hands* at the finish. Because there aren't people *right behind you* who have likely been trying to get in their OWN picture for the last half mile as you hold hands!

Disney's choices of pictures irritates me tremendously. :)
I'm choosing to laugh at it...because with the way runDisney has been doing things lately, I just need to laugh at them right now. They are being ridiculous. :rotfl:

Probably a much healthier option than my constant irritation at them. (and at myself for signing up for their stuff)

At Hot Chocolate Seattle Sunday I randomly met one of the announcer guys who knows Rudy-from-rundisney-announcing. (I walked up to the info booth muttering about how useless tech fabric is to dry off eyeglasses, and the info booth woman offered me her cotton shirt's sleeve and we were joking about that, and I noticed that the man she was talking to looked really official. I asked "so do you run this, you look really really official ha ha", 'cuz I'm a weird introvert who has decided to embrace my regular foot-in-mouth routine, and then we started talking) While chatting, before I ran away because I was starting to turn into a block of ice, I unloaded about lack of info at disney races (his wife runs in them and like I said, he knows Rudy), expos and the 3 cases of wine glasses some dude bought in the first hour (and 1 glass went for over $100 on ebay last week), and how he should tell the running powers that be that UNIVERSAL would be an amazing place to host some runs. :)

I think he was shell-shocked by the time I said "I'm freezing, gotta go!"

So. I just got an email that a DVC point rental I requested came through for this weekend...at the Polynesian!! YAY!!

...but wait. What if part of their 'announcements" about changes to the race includes a date change?! Renting these points is non-refundable!!

It seems like the dates are locked in from the Active.com link, but if they change...well...too late now. And I'm honestly too excited to care! :teeth:

That's awesome!! I have one pending for the Poly too and I hope so hard that it goes through! Our back up is CBR. Both resorts would be new to us, but the Poly is my dream!

I hope you get it - crossing my fingers for you!!

I wasn't expecting to hear anything either way until the 7-month date (April 2) so I was really surprised to get the email today! The Poly is my dream, too. Super excited! :)

Thank you! This is our first time trying to rent DVC points so I feel like I've just been flailing through the process haha

I have a theory- I think the theme changes.

Night race- maybe? because it works with the theme I'm dreaming they would do. But maybe logistically it's still a day race due to construction at night.

Anywho. NO proof, no nothing other than a wish and a dream. This was born out of looking at the survey questions they sent out a few months ago.

But my theory is that they announce a Villains race tomorrow. With a special good vs evil c2c matched up with the Super Heroes half weekend (aka Avengers).

Again, TOTALLY just throwing stuff out there. I have absolutely nothing to go on.
Even though I'm not signing up this year, I'll be a little disappointed if they changed the theme. I really want to go back for this race someday and try again since I didn't get the full, true experience last year.

ok so here is my totally unsubstantiated theory as to what is happening with wine and dine Based on the evidence we have seen:

1) there will be a 5k Thursday morning , a 10k Friday night and a half Saturday night. this is evidenced in having the expo start Wednesday. no reason to do so unless there is a Thursday race.

2) the addition of a night time 10k would ideally add capacity to the weekend and take load off the half. as a lot of people who would want to do the half would rather do the 10k. they just want the after party and medal. and a 10k is much less daunting.

3) and I don't like this conclusion but in order to make the 10k something people want to do that weekend it will either need its own after party (which would be awesome I love this idea challenge and 2 parties) or more likely the 10k finishers can enter the half party just like the non runners (more likely but less appealing to me personally). this allows rundisney to offset the cost of the party by increasing attendance but it decreases the enjoyment of the party by the half runners who will get there later and encounter lines. this will further reduce demand for the half while still making Disney more money via the 10k. additionally expect the 5k to include admission to the party with a commensurate increase in price.

I definitely agree with you on (1)...not sure about them adding it as a nighttime race.

Also agree with them wanting the 10K to take pressure off of the half, since it's a smaller capacity half and the only fall race at WDW.

With the 10K will come a challenge, and the half course will have to change due to construction.

No idea what else is going on.

For anyone who's run the half before, what is the finish line party like?
The website doesn't seem to give too much info on it. Do I have to worry about running with money and/or cc to pay for each dish I want? It is really worth staying around to enjoy it?

Interesting, but I have my doubts. This will be only my second runDisney race, but I would be surprised if they moved the 5k all the way outside the '4th-5th' timetable they have been advertising for so long. (This may also be wishful thinking, as plans have been made to include kids not arriving until Thursday afternoon. Not good.)

Would a 10k take pressure off the half? I kinda doubt it. I think it would sell out in less than a half hour regardless. But they could still make more money off a second race and afterparty. I would bet against the 10k runners being allowed to the half afterparty because capacity for that party may be the reason why this race is so much smaller than all the others.

Hi everyone I usually lurk on the boards but finally made an account because I have a few questions. This is my first big RunDisney race, so I am extremely nervous for sign up day! Two questions, and the first is probably dumb, and I probably know the answer, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

First, if my mom is an AP can she register during early registration for me, or would I also have to be an AP?

And second, just how fast does this sell out? Is it Beyoncè concert fast, or as long as you are there right at noon you should be guaranteed a spot? I just don't want to plan a trip around this now and then not be able to register.

Thanks!

I attended last year. Food lines seemed like a normal day at the park, but the rides I was able to walk on to (Soarin'/Test Track). You will need money/cc to pay for food/drink... and you get (or at least last year you did, not sure about this year) a gift card that you can use which is good for about one food item and one drink item.

I would say that you should at least give it a try. It is one of the unique things about this race.

Sells out Beyonce fast. Assuming you're not a minor, your mom can't register you on her AP.

I don't know, she says while sad at the decision she made... In 2014 it was a cold rain the whole time and by the finish we were so miserable we skipped the party.

I get that the weather decision to cut the course last year was sad, and it's easy to giggle at the splash and dash, but '14 was no walk in the park. (Even though the paths through AK were so dangerous and slick that's what we should have been doing (and having had that experience I totally comprehend why they cut the to/through/from AK part last year...it's dangerous in there in or just after that sort of weather))

Am I correct that AP exchange certs/vouchers CANNOT be used for early registration?
