Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Actually, Amazon has RB1 for $99.99 (no tax or shipping)....so I should probably buy RB1 and I could then buy RB2 game only for $49.99 and I'd have both track lists, right??

Is the hardware (guitar, drum kit) the same for both versions? If so, I think the above scenario makes sense for me!!!

Ok, I am answering part of my own question....it seems as though the cymbal attachments that you can purchase for the drum kit will only fit the RB2 drum kit.

I am most interested in playing the drums, so perhaps I would want to add the cymbal attachment at some point :confused3

Definitely the way to go! yes the cymbal attachment will only work on rb2 sets, but it's completely unneeded unless you plan to use your drums for GHWT(IV)

The other Rb drum set difference is the metal foot pedal on which is needed if you have a heavy foot. remember the cymbals are also an add on and will cost you more. I'm prefectly happy with my RB1 drums and i play them alot...I could care less about not having the cymbals.

i guess you need to decide if you want to save money or have the "complete" drums...by getting tbe rb2 set and the cymbals.

I am getting 2 of these 3 wii games....which would you recommend? Cooking mama cookoff, kidz sports - international soccer, animal crossing - city folk.

I am wondering if the Drum training feature of RB2 might require or work better with the cymbals attachment. If so, I might want to get RB2 bundle...I am a middle aged closet drummer who never took lessons or bought a real drum kit...so maybe I will want the complete drum kit :woohoo:

Animal Crossing: City Folk is out today. I lucked out and found it for sale on Friday, so I've been playing it a bit since then.

It is very similar to the DS and Gamecube versions but there are a few changes and it seems like it will be good. I had posted before that there were reports that it would not have motion controls, but it does have some after all. You cast the fishing rod by swinging the remote down and reel it in by swinging it up. You swing the net by swinging the remote. I don't have the other tools yet so I'm not sure about them.

There is one change I think is bad . . . On the Gamecube version you could have a town for each memory card you were willing to buy, so everyone in my household had their own town. Even on the DS version each of us had our own town because we each owned a copy of the game. On the Wii version we have to share a town because there is no way to save more than one town on the same Wii. You can not save to a memory card, either. (Though you can take pictures in-game and save those to an SD card.)
I think it will work well for us because we've all agreed to some ground rules for our town, but it could get frustrating if two people had to share who didn't work well together.

Up to four people can play the game on one Wii, but only one can play at a time. Though if you have Wifi you can visit friends' towns or invite them to your town, and over Wifi up to four players (from different towns, on different Wiis) can be in the same town at once.

If anyone has any questions about the game I'll be happy to try to answer them. By the way, if anyone else is playing and needs fruit. . . we have pears in my town and should have peaches later today.

What a bummer about not being able to save different towns! It's not like my kids won't want to share (um, yeah, they will hate to share!) and that they won't agree on everything (um, there's a chance they won't agree with anything!) Ugh!

I wonder if there is any way around this (outside of buying more than one game?) Hmmm...

Well, thanks for the awesome review. I will fare much better now that I am prepared!!

I've read through the first few posts and I haven't seen the answer to my question. It might be in here in these almost 3,000 pages but heck, I'm not looking! ;)

So here it is...

Do I need 4 wiimotes for games that 4 people can play? Let's take bowling for example...only 1 person bowls at a time, right? Can player 1 hand the wiimote off to player 2 and so forth, or do I need 4 wiimotes?

It depends. How's that for a helpful answer?! ;)
Really though, it does depend. I think that on Wii Sports you can use one remote and pass it around. I believe you can on some other games, as well - but only the games where everyone takes turns, like "Carnival Games" and "Warioware". On some games (like MarioKart or some mini-games on the Raving Rabbids titles) all players compete at the same time, and they each need their own remotes.

So, it really depends on what games you are going to be playing.

On bowling you can pass the wiimote. Won't work for sports like tennis, boxing, etc., for obvious reasons. We found that having 4 wiimotes isn't necessary, but very nice. We do have a few 4-player games that we all get into. At the very least, get a second wiimote. (Wii Play is the way to do it, IMO) And if you think you might want more than that, either plan on getting them before Christmas or waiting a while. They seem to be pretty scarce for a while right afterward, or they were last year.

OK-I went out this morning and got a Wii and Wii Sports. So now we'll have 2 remotes for Christmas morning.

My 3 little guys are 7, 3 and 3 so that should be enough to get us going on Christmas morning without causing trouble. (Did I just say that out loud?...they do LOVE to share!...especially the twins!) :joker:

Does anybody on here actually own WiiMusic or are we just basing our opinions on the horrible reviews?

I ask because DS13 rented this today(free coupon) and has been playing it pretty much nonstop since 4pm. DH has been in there playing with him for over an hour.

It looks kinda boring to me but the 2 of them are having a great old time playing. He even told me to add it to his Christmas list. I said lets see what you think of it by the end of your weeks rental.

Anyway, point of the story, it's not as horrible as it's been made out to be.

It's one of the reasons I haven't put anything about the game in the FAQ posts. I was waiting to hear from you guys. There is a tendancy on this thread to completely disagree with 'professional' reviews since the professionals aren't children! lol

To answer your question I have not played the game and my opinion of it was swayed by the overwhelmingly negative press about it. So I'll refrain from anymore hate! lol Sorry, I'm glad you rented it to try!

Cooking Mama and Animal Crossing. That was really easy!

Well, I'm not saying it's a great game or anything. It doesn't look very good to me, doesn't seem to be whole lot to it. But....DS13 seems to think it's pretty cool.

I also have not played the game myself and don't really have any desire to after watching DS and DH for a little bit. I guess I just wanted to chime in and say if it sounds like something you think your kid might like, don't be swayed by the reviews, at least go rent it and check it out because maybe they will like it. I'm betting by the end of the week DS will have lost interest and will no longer want to purchase this. It doesn't look like something I think is worth spending $50 on. I'll give you guys the updated verdict at the end of the week.

And just as a random aside, DS doesn't like a lot of the games that get bad reviews by the professionals but get good ones on here. For example he hates all the "carnival game" type of games and things of that nature. So, I don't know if his review will have any value to anybody on here but I'll try to get a several sentence review out of him by the end of the week.

As already said....Animal Crossing and Cookiing Mama....

Ok, I am confused....what is the purpose of the cymbals attachment? The cymbals are not needed for playing the tracks, right? What is GHWT(IV) and how do the cymbals come into play with it?

There is no purpose!

Here's the thing GH:WT(iv) = Gutiar Hero World Tour (GH4) Uses cymbals. (it ad's one extra pad color- making it 5 different notes to hit like the guitar) You need the cymbals in that game to set off your star power.

IN Rockband there is NO (and I stress NO) use for the cymbals at all...I have played through the drum training and they are not needed. In the future they may be used for something but at this point i think the makers of RB are selling the attachment for those wanting to use their drums to play guitar hero.

Also Remember that the cymbals are an extra $39.99 and will not be out until NOV 30th!

that said if you really want a "complete drum kit" for Rockband get this....http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Drum-Rocker-Premium-Set/dp/B001E2OW1Q/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1226957564&sr=8-1

***NOT MADE FOR THE WII*** and $299.99 plus another $349.99 if you want the drum brain(makign it useable as a electronic drum set)

I'm really glad you said something. It never hurts to have some first hand experience (or closer to it). I'll look forward to his review!

And just in case anyone missed the new ticker in my signature--DH (The Horned King) and I are pregnant!!!!

I have read a lot of this thread but I am not finding reviews on the I Spy wii game? Any thoughts?

I don't think we've had anything for that one yet. Do you know how much it runs? If it's anything like the PC versions, I think it might be GREAT for those of you with very young children...

Thank you for the info!! Just one question - how have you played through the drum training? isn't that a new feature in RB2, which isn't released yet? or am I mistaken?

Thanks again for the info, it's been very helpful!!!

I got a scholastic reader list from the kids school and they are selling it for $30.00, about a $5 savings because of the free shipping. It looks fun and I have only been able to find one review on the web that said it was good, but that was 1 review. :) My kids are 4 and 6 so I thought it might be fun for them. I just am so unsure.

We have the Xbox 360 version. So we've had it for a while.
