Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Read through a few pages and didn't see anything. Is there a particular "list" anywhere with recommended games via age?

My kids just have "games" listed. We have 3 gaming systems, DS, PS2 and Wii and I would like to buy the best per system if possible.

For example, DS11 wants the new Crash Bandicott game. I have found it higher rated for the PS2 than the Wii. DS explained that sometimes the controls for the Wii can become a pain and actually make a game less enjoyable. The problem with the new Wii Animal Crossing is another good example.

Any suggestions? Kids are DD's 13 and 8, and DS11.

Sorry, I can't help you out, but if you don't mind me asking, what problems have you heard with Animal Crossing?

The only issue I have read about AC for Wii is you can only save ONE town, so if there is more than one player in your family, you all have to share the same town.

Not sure if there is anything else.

I'd also like to hear about any problems with Animal Crossing, if you wouldn't mind sharing. We have it and have been enjoying it, and haven't encountered any problems yet. Given how much time we invested into the previous versions, I'd hate to spend lots of time on this one and then discover a big problem with it!

ETA - If it's the one town thing, I am aware of that and thought it would be a bigger deal than it has turned out to be. We haven't shared a town on AC before but we layed down a few ground rules for our shared town and haven't had any problems so far.

okay I have tried to find an answer and cannot-- so I am coming to the experts. I know nothing about the wii. We have one wrapped for Christmas and I was thinking of getting the littlest pet shop game for DD6. But I cannot find how many people can play this game. I really want to find games that at least 2 people can play at a time. This is supposed to be a family gift and promote family time. :) Does this game allow 2 or more? THANK YOU
If you look at the back of the box there is a picture of the controller and it lists how many people can play. This graphic is on every Wii game.

There is a list of recommended games by age in the second or third post in this thread. I am not aware of any website that does it. These are the games that I feel give you the best value for your money and are not usually available on multiple systems. They are also games that the families on this thread really enjoy.

When a game is offered on multiple systems, I suggest you do exactly what you did. Look up the reviews for the different systems and buy off that or buy the game that is cheaper. It would be rare for me to recommend buying a more expensive Wii game that is on the PS2. It usually doesn't matter.

For those ages, I highly recommend Mario Galaxy and Zelda.

Yes, this is what I'm referring to. considering the prices on some of these Wii games, I consider the ONE town only, as a big deal. BTDT with some other games and won't go there again, not for the price.

Also, I did check the games at the beginning of the thread, but is it updated?
There have been quite a few games that have come out since this thread started, at least I think so. :)

Yes the games in the front are Up To Date...they change as reviews and discussions take place in this thread.

as for the One town thing ...not even remotly a problem unless your kids don't get along. Set a few ground rules like no chopping down trees and it's shouldn't be a problem...in fact for animal crossing it is quite helpful to have multiple people to help keep the town clean.

Yes, I updated it a few weeks ago with newer games, but I'm trying to keep the lists to the best of the best and not go on and on. The list is intended for those who are new to the system. Once you've had it for a while, you should hopefully learn to check IGN for reviews.

Hey hon, what's for dinner? :teeth:

Are the recommeded games listed on the first page for Wii games or also for DS games? Is there a DS game recommendation list or thread you could direct me to? Thanks.......just trying to be a good santa!! :santa:

No, the DS part of this thread is just ask a question and get an answer. There aren't any DS specific threads I know of except the "Let's get a DS deal" thread.

Sorry!

We rented Cooking Mama today since I saw it on the BF ads at Walmart and read good reports on it. Boy, am I glad we rented first. My dd5 and 7(on the 1st!) did NOT like it. They said it was too hard and after 1/2 hour they said they were done and to take it back!! I'll return it tomorrow and try something else. We tried Carnival Mini Golf and LOVED that. It is now on the Christmas list. I'm thinking of trying Littlest Pet Shop and the Family Game night this week. What other family games should we rent?

This is why I think things like Gamefly are such a great idea for families. Have you tried Mario Kart and Mario Party?

Hey we're going to WDW at the same time! :teeth:
belated congratulations!!!! Hoping for a very happy & healthy 9 months!!

Thanks!!:goodvibes

I do go to some of the gamer sites, but I still find it hard, because some games are very highly rated and my kids don't like them at all. Mario is a good example, none of my kids like any of these. :confused3
WE ususally use gamespot, is IGN a better site?

Anyone heard anything at all about Club Penguin for the DS? Youngest has it on her list, and haven't heard anything about it.

IGN is by far the best. BUT you'll have a hard time finding solid reviews for clear kids games. Most of the adult reviewers hate them.

If your kids don't like Mario I suggest you start renting games, as they may have the opposite tastes of most reviews.

Hey,not a new owner but I have a ?

Our 2nd remote will not sync with any two or more player games
but it works for the Wii sports we got with the Wii...:confused3

Hows that ?

Thanks

Any personal experience with Sega Superstar Tennis or Thrillsville for the Wii? My girls love playing wii sports tennis and they have goofy personalities so I think they might like the tennis one but it gets mixed reviews. They are 9 and 6.

My 9 yr old daughter has wanted Thrillsville for a long time (on any platform!) and I found it black friday for $15. Can you just build and then "ride" roller coasters or do you have to build and maintain an amusement park to do that? Is it an annoying game to control with the Wii Remote?

So even if the game is rated the same for other systems you think you should buy the lowest priced game for the systems you own? The differences the wiimote might add to the game generally isn't worth the extra cost?

Re: The person who asked about Club Penguin for the DS, I asked about this earlier and didn't get a response either. Maybe people haven't played it yet. I haven't found many reviews for it. I do know that you can earn coins on the DS game and if you have wireless you can transfer them to the on line game and the DS game unlocks some room somewhere, but that is all I know.
