Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

I bought 2 GH III's when they came out so I could have 2 guitars. So I ended up with an extra game. I figured if someone did not buy GH III and only bought GH Aerosmith or GH World Tour they may want just the GH III game since they will already have the guitar. Does that sound right to you?? My husband seems to think I have it wrong, but it seems to make sense to me!??? I have it listed on the trade board for trade...
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1197028&page=244 it is the last post on the page and it says what I am looking for in trade!

Ok, I understand now. Yes you are right, if someone bought the GH: Aerosmith guitar bundle they could use the GHIII game disc and then would have additional songs to play. Also same goes for World Tour, if they buy this, then they could buy/trade you for GHIII to add songs to play on WT with the guitar only though (since WT has the other band instruments that work on GHIII).

Andrea from PA - You don't have to have the charger, you can use batteries, but of course the charger is more friendly to the environment.

I second Mario Kart for using the wheel although you can play without one.

How many wiimotes do have total? 2?

mjrich73 - Forgot to mention that you can go to a gamestop/ebgames etc and inquire what the trade in value for an unopened GHIII game disc is. No harm in asking that.

I got 2 controllers -- the one that came with the Wii and the WiiPlay package for controller #2.

There are 5 of us, but I assume most games won't have 5 of us palying at the same time.

I just picked up on the Walmart special Hannah (for DD) and Safari.

I will be on the prowl for MarioKart

Amazon.com has Mario Kart...it is $49.99 with no tax and free shipping!

It is that time of year again and I have a question. I have already found Wii Fit and Guitar Hero World Tour. Now my son is asking for Wii Music. He is in high school (10th grade) marching band. He love jazz band, concert band and choir. I have not read such good threads about this but nothing official. I have only read that people think their child might get bored quickly.

Any advise? Should I waste my $$?

Absolutly DO NOT BUY WII MUSIC. GHWT will give him a far better music experience. There really is no skill involved a monkey could do it.

Somehow I missed this seeing this the other day. So the Wii guitars will work with the Wii RockBand2 game? Is that right? And then that would mean that the drum and mic and new guitar for GHWT might also work with RB2?

The rest of the info you posted was way confusing and too much info all at once for someone who hasn't even played a note on any GH or RB, well maybe I have played one note before it was grabbed outta my hands. Maybe with the band kit there will be something for me to play (notice I said play and not sing, I don't want to do that).:scared1:

Haveot heard abotu the other instruments yet....maybe someone who bought GHWT and already had Rb could tell us.

HELP :confused3 -- I am a Mom who can't play games, but after various family and friends continually talk about the Wii I went & got it as a family gift from Santa.

Our background:
Our family of 5 who owns PS3 & GC. GC still gets a good amount of play.
DH loves Resident Evil
DSs share the gaming systems which are kept in their bedroom-- We have a wide array, including GH & Rock Band, the new Star Wars (PS3).

DD (7) & I are complete gaming novices & really stink.

What I bought so far:
Wii
WiiFit w/ balance Board
Carnival
WiiPlay
Steering Wheel (this was given to me by a co-worker NIB)

I know I need:
Charger

What do I need for a fun Christmas? I want this as a "fun exercise" so I am looking for "physical" games. I want to avoid games that the graphics are better on PS3 -- War games, Star Wars, etc.

Boom Blox and Shaun White have been recommended to me.

Any other really physical game recommendations?

Would we need more controllers?

DS 12 (soon to be 13) is NOT going to be excited about the Wii -- Is there anything that would really WOW him that isn't available or good on PS3?

And what can I do with that free steering wheel -- any cheap (under $50) games I can use it with?

Well what type of games does your son play??? Enjoy??? Without knowing that it's hard to suggest one that will WOW him.

That said some of my favorties on the system..Mario Galaxy, Smash Brothers Brawl, RE4(plays better on this system then any other before it), Resident Evil umbrella Cronicles(light gun shooting game--get the nyko zapper for the most fun), No More Hero's. Zelda twlight princess (if you don't have it for the gamecube), Mario Kart is the best racer out there. give me a better idea of his game style and i can be more specific.

If we can purchase a warranty on GHWT should we? I say if we can because when I was at GameStop and inquired about it they said they don't offer it for the band or guitar kits and that you have to deal directly with the company. I read on the company website they only cover it for 90 days.

While looking around other websites I see that I can purchase a 2 yr warranty for $30 from CC for the band kit, although I'm not sure what all it covers. It says video games but this is a game disc plus the band instruments... So is an extra warranty necessary?

I don't know about the extended warranties - I've never gotten them, but the video game companies are usually really good about fixing any problems.

I know some people are having problems with the GHWT drums but supposedly they are working on a fix for that.

However - if CC is Circuit City I would say don't buy their warranty. Supposedly they are expected to declare bankruptcy soon and I suspect that when/if that happens they will no longer honor the warranty.

On the ski race is a score of 30.03 a good score? I don't know because we only play against our family.

I almost never buy warranties, especially for video games. But games with peripherals are a little different. Ususally the warranty is more cumbersome than working directly with the manufaturers.

I can tell you that out of the 5 people I know that have RB, all of us have had to send in for new kick pedals for the drums and a couple have had to get new guitars. They were free under the games warranty, but they won't be forever...these kits aren't meant to last as long as they should.

So saying all of this, I still wouldn't buy a store warranty.

I thought this would be good for all people that don't yet have a Wii and are looking to buy one for Christmas

1. Don't buy a bundle, it is putting more money in the hands of the stores. Bungles usually include things that the store gets for next to nothing and you don't ever use. They usually also include games that no one will ever play so you are just wasting you money.

2. Don't rush out and buy rechargeable station of batteries right off the bat. Save your money. AA batteries at the highest settings last 30 to 40 hours in your Wii Remote. Spending the extra money on the charging station and then the additional cost of the batteries (which are much more expensive) you could find that you don't need to spend the extra cash. Especially if you have a wholesale club (Sams or BJ's) you can get a brick of their brand Alkyline for 10 bucks.

3. Research games, make sure you get games that you know people will play. If you have younger kids (4,5,6) Wii Sports will most likely be plenty for them. Also spend the money on Wii Play, it is a $49.99, but comes with a Wii remote so the game is really only 10 bucks. Then add a another nunchuck. That would give your family 14 games to play on christmas day. Then get the kids a gift card to Eb games, game stop, or toys r us, that would be enough to buy a game and let them go pick one out.

4. The NEW Wii Owner essentials

Cost of the Console 249.99
Cost of Wii Play 49.99
Additional Nunchuck 19.99
Total 319.97 without tax and have a great christmas

THANK YOU! That is great advice and exactly what I was looking for! My mom and dad are buying the console this xmas for my DD's (8 and 11). :thumbsup2 We have never had any type of game system before and I was confused as to what we would all need to get going.

I am on a limited budget for adding the extras. I was thinking the Wii play (w/ extra wiimote) and one more game. Do you need the extra nunchuck for wii sports or wii play? If so, I will probably get it right away if not, I may wait.

Does anyone reccomend a game for 2 girls ages 8 1/2 and 11? :confused3 It needs to be fairly easy since they have never had a video game system before. I was thinking either Mario carnival games or Mario kart.

TIA! :goodvibes

You need the nunchuck for some of the minigames, but not all. So you don't have to have it at first, but it might be better to go on and get it.

Game suggestions depend on what your girls enjoy, but they might like Animal Crossing:City Folk or any of the Rayman Raving Rabbids games. The Lego games are also great as is Mario Kart.

Agree - For someone who starts, Wii Sports, Wii Play and an extra nunchuck is it.

After some time, research for games. There are TONS are most are junk. Also, consider the majority of the games are made for 'gamers' and the Wii is not the best platform.

one more thing - Wii Fit is meant for adults - not kids...

In terms of games, for us what worked was/is:

BigBrain Academy
Lego Star wars
Lego Indiana Jones

2 girls, only 2 games come to mind. Sing it and Hannah Montana World Tour.
Both are geared for that age group,

Sing it is a Karaoke Game that they sing to 30 Disney Channel Artists.
Hannah Montana is a Dance Game that they use the Wii Remote and a Nunchuck to make Hannah Dance to her songs.

Sing it is $59.99 because it comes with a microphone so they can sing along and Hannah Montana is down to $29.99. I have 3 girls 9, 6, and 2. The two older ones play Sing it and Hannah Montana a lot and the 2 year old loves playing Wii Bowling. It's funny to watch her play.

That's all in the first post in the thread, but maybe not quite as quickly stated.

I'll add it to one of the FAQ posts at the beginning, because it'll get lost in the thread....not that anyone really reads the FAQ--it's probably too long...

While i usually agree with much of what Justin the Hook says i have to disagree with him on #2 in this post some what...while the charger is not needed...let me tell you I was going through AA's at a much faster pace then the 30-40 hour play time and I had my speaker turned way down on the wiimotes. the Nyko Charger while as JtH says is NOT NEEDED..I HIGHLY SUGGEST IT! I've had it since it first came out and let me tell you the convience of not having to EVER replace batteries and ALWAYS having 2 completely charged remotes is well worth the $29.99 cost...at more then 2 years of play on them now I have saved a ton even if I had been buyign "bricks of AA's".

Use you own judgement..but I recomend the Nyko charger form day 1...but again if your tight on cash you could pass

Or...you could do what we did....just buy rechargeable batteries for the remotes. We have 10 rechargeables. 6 are in our 3 wiimotes and 4 are charged and standing by. Whenever a set goes bad, we pop the charged ones in and charge the 2 dead ones and put them in the ziplock bag ready for next time. We buy the rayovac hybrids so they hold their charge while waiting to be used.
