Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Is anyone else having problems getting Super Smash Bros Brawl to play online either with "anyone" or with "registered friends"? DH and I have been trying to get on, but keeps disconnecting us and not being able to join other rooms created by other players.

As you all may know by now it should runnign pretty flawlessly. The problem was the massive influx of gamers that flooded the servers upon getting the game....many people jumping right to the online before playing any of the other parts of the game. This basically overloaded the servers and slowed them to a crawl.

Sort of off topic but in that vein:

Anyone know for sure if it will work on an 80GB, PS2 compatible (via software, not Emotion engine) compatible PS3?

I'm thinking of picking it up for the kids, but really don't want to have to drag out my old PS2.

Nope...emulation sucks! Sony should have just left the ps2 chipset in the system. it honestly didn't add that much to the cost.
By far the Wii is the best at backward playability...the 360 has so many unplayable games and even the ones that are playabale(fable) glitch badly constently. This should be a lesson to the companies that emulation is a bad thing!

Devil May Cry info anyone? I know its not Wii but played it via a different system.

Again as the wife said we answered this quest a long time ago..but It really depends on what DMc your talking about....honestly afeter the first one it lost alot of flair for me. I just didn't care anymore. If you tell me which version I can give you better info.

Hi guys,

Tonite I just bought the original Sonic the Hedgehog using Wii Points. Downloaded with no problems, but the game doesn't display properly on the screen. Have any of you had problems like this? We have a 50" plasma, and I'm wondering if that is the problem? The screen will scroll (I'll see the graphics), and then will just go black - all the while, you can still hear the music and I can hear Sonic jump when I hit the Jump button.

Any ideas on things I could try? DH has the Wii connected through a component cable to our Receiver.

Thanks all!!

As with all things..call Nintendo! Honestly it sounds like a bad download or bad emulation. My guess is Nintendo will tell you to delete the game and re-download(this will not cost you more as on the wii if you downloaded and paid for it once you don't have to pay again). But call Nintendo.....my only other idea is that if you have the wii set to widescreen mode it may mess up the onlder games..you made need to go back to 4:3 ratio. Again best suggestion is call Nintendo!

DS says you can only do "matches" online...I think he was hoping they could do adventure mode or one of the other mode type things together online but they can only do matches.

He was able to play with a friend, the screen loaded slowly and froze here and there but basically worked ok. Everytime he tries the "connect with a random person" choice it kicks him out though. He was able to play with a friend using the friend's code.

Match are the "normal Play" as I put it..brawl has always been a fighting game. The adventure mode is brand new and really an ADD-ON to the game. Classic mode and brawl mode are the traditional game.

As for the online problems....see my above statements.

Hoping somebody can offer some advice here. My daughter hasn't played her wii for a while (a broken foot is not compatible with the wii :)) Anyway, she got it out tonight and one of the wiimotes won't work :( None of the lights turn on at all. I went out and bought brand new batteries and still nothing. We tried pushing the sync button but it seems as if there is no power to the wiimote at all.

Any thoughts on what to do? Although I bought the wii last July, she has only had it open since Christmas.

Honestly I have never run across this problem so I can't answer it...again My best suggestion is to call Nintendo. They are great at problem solveing...and are super nice. I don't even have a suggestion to try(doesn't happen very often)...just call Nintendo!

DS11 is looking at some Cabella's Hunting game...anyone played it? Is there some sort of gun that goes with it?

Also...did I read somewhere (maybe here) that there will be an all Aerosmith version of Guitar Hero :cool1:

No there is no gun that goes with it...but I bet you can use the zapper that comes with links bow game. I have not played it for the wii however I have played the PC version and In my opinion it's not worth more then like $15.00 it got real boreing real quick..>If you looking for a good "Shooting game" he should look into House of the Dead 2&3 for the wii it has not one but both arcade games on it...and blasting zombies making their heads explode is FAR more FUN then shooting a deer.

Yes Aerosmith Gutar Hero is due in April...you can currently pre-sale it at either Gamestop or Best Buy!

Another Guitar Hero game announced....this one for the DS!

The Nintendo DS version -- Guitar Hero: On Tour -- is in development at Vicarious Visions, the team best known for the Tony Hawk and Spider-Man series on the dual-screen handheld, as well as the Nintendo Wii conversion of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock released late last year. This portable version will feature the same rhythm-based "play to the music" gameplay of the big boys, and will even have its own peripheral to get the job done: Red Octane has developed what it's calling the Guitar Grip to give players the ability to finger chords in similar fashion as the console version's guitar peripheral.

go to the link to see a video of it in motion...it also has a special Guitar pick stylus!!!!

Looks like it will rock!

My ds thinks GH: On Tour looks awesome! He can't wait! Luckily his birthday is in July. This will be on his list, I am sure!

Just letting everyone know that the online connection problem for super smash bros has been fixed. We are able to get on just fine now. However, sometimes playing online can be a huge hassle. Sometime there are some major lags. Example - You jump and as you are falling back down to the ground or platform, your character moves VERY slow and very jagged. IMHO, until they work all the bugs out, playing online isnt worth it, unless you are playing against your friends from your friend roster or your playing at odd times during the day such as 3am.

Pre ordered Wii fit today, released april 25th.......SOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED !!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

We just got Guitar Hero today. Oh my, I am horrid at it! I can't get more than 20% of a song done before they boo me off the stage. I think I'm doing something really really wrong????

I guess it just depends on the day and the connections....I've played online quite a bit and have yet to have ANY Lag....I'm in the minority on this. But it's worked absolutely flawless for me in fact I havn't even played my "friends" yet..only random connections and I have no lag. So I guess take it for what it's worth.

PLay on easy(only 3 colors)....hold the strumbar between the index and thumb so that you don't hit it more then once. Practice makes perfect.

At this point I have heard of NO promotions. I'll be sure to post them if I hear about it. My suggestion i nthe mean time is to go somewhere like gamestop or toys r us and presale it if you want it...before they stop taking them. Seeing as the game is more then a million seller in japan and the fact that it comes with the board...will probably mean it will be hard to find one if you don't plan in advance. You can always return the pre-sale if you find one elsewhere with a promotion.

DH said he saw a 2nd guitar for the Wii while he was out shopping the other day. I heard a while back that there was going to be a 2nd guitar for Guitar Hero III, but then didn't hear anything more.

Does anyone have this? Do you have to buy another disk? How do two play at once using the original disk that came with the game? How much is it?

Yes you can buy the second guitar as of now.... No you do not have to buy it with the game(although you are better off doing this and tradeing in the second game) The guitars by them selves are running around the $69.99!!! OUCH!!!!

Yes it is used with the original disk...simply find multiplayer in the menu.

ROCK BAND WII GETS A DATE!!!!
Rock Band Announced
The industry's hottest music game is headed to Wii.
March 24, 2008 - Harmonix, the leading developer of music-based games, and MTV Games, a division of MTV Networks, which is a division of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), along with distribution partner Electronic Arts, Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS)
"The Wii's success among casual and core gamers of all ages makes it an ideal match for the cross-generational appeal of the music featured in Rock Band," says Bob Picunko, Vice President of Electronic Games and Interactive Products, MTV

"The social interaction and addictive nature of the Rock Band experience is a perfect fit for the Wii and will undoubtedly be fun for the entire family," says Steve Singer, licensing VP from Nintendo.

Rock Band is an all-new platform for music fans and gamers to interact with music like never before. The game challenges players to put together a band and tour for fame and fortune – all while learning to master lead/bass guitar, drums and vocals. Featuring the most master recordings of any music game ever by the world's biggest rock artists, Rock Band includes tracks that span every genre of rock ranging from alternative and classic rock to heavy metal and punk. Rock Band has garnered over 40 awards this year including Game Critics Award: Best of Show E3 2007 and three awards at The 11th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards including Outstanding Innovation in Gaming, Family Game of the Year, and Outstanding Achievement in Soundtrack
, today announced plans to release the award-winning music video game Rock Band on the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo in the U.S. and Canada on June 22, 2008 for the suggested retail price of $169.99.

Rock Band for Wii will be released as a Special Edition bundle including the software, drums, microphone and a wireless guitar. Stand alone instruments will also be available on June 22nd for people who want to build their band one instrument at a time or want to play the drum versus drum game mode. The game will feature 63 songs including five bonus songs for Wii gamers to enjoy.

to add to the question about the second guitar for GH...
MY SUGGESTION buy ROCKBAND!!! you'll have a second guitar, drums and a mic...ROCKBAND is FAR SUPERIOR to GH!

We have both PS2 and Wii. We want to buy a Guitar Hero game. Which platform is better for it?

Just keep this in mind:

While with the Xbox360, the Guitar Hero guitar works with Rock band....with the PS3 version the Guitar Hero guitar does NOT work with Rock band.

I'm not sure WHAT will happen with the Wii version, but given the stance by both companies in regards to implementing GH guitar compatibility with Rock Band on the PS3....I wouldn't be too optimistic.

:)

We have both PS2 and Wii. We want to buy a Guitar Hero game. Which platform is better for it?

We went with the Wii, because:
1. Our PS2 isn't hooked up anymore, so it's a pain to play
2. Eventually they'll stop making the game for the PS2 and you'll have to buy newer versions on a different console. If you buy it on the Wii, you can just buy the new game instead of having to buy a new guitar as well.
3. When the new version comes out we can decide to get it with the guitar so we'll have two.
4. The Wii will eventually have downloadable content that will never be available on the PS2 (this is a HUGE deal).
5. We have friends that have it for the Wii and can play each other online (not available with PS2) or they can come over and bring their guitar. (another HUGE deal).

Reasons to buy on the PS2:
1. It's cheaper especially if you can find the 2 guitar pack.

In the long run I think it makes sense to buy it for the Wii over the Ps2.

(Now if you have a Xbox 360, I'd buy it for that over the Wii, cuz it already has downloadable content.)

Good point! :thumbsup2

Does the Wii version offer the ability to buy the new songs/online content?

If so, I'd suggest the Wii version, simply because of that.

Net yet, but it will in the next month or so when Wii Ware is officially released. It'll be more on par with the Xbox version then (finally). The PS2 will never have the download capability.
