Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

No problem....it wouldn't have mattered anyway....DH is so excited to play this game - with or without us!! :rotfl:

I'm sure you weren't the only one I confused! Thanks for being nice! Hopefully the game will come out sometime realatively soon. :teeth:

Could someone who has played Mario Galaxy confirm how the two-player mode works, please? We are curious about it but don't want to buy it if we can't both play it at the same time or at least taking turns with different characters like you could with older versions (like the first three or foud versions on the old NES, Super NES, or N64). We tried to rent it from blockbuster but they were all checked out.

But the Circuit City $34.99 deal is mighty tempting...

The second player is in charge of collecting gems, not controlling Mario. While the other plaer controlls Mario, the 2nd player points their wii-mote around the screen to collect gems that appear there. Not too exciting.

The game is better off played single player. But you could have up to I think 10 different save slots for different players.

The dropped the 2 player thing after SUper Mario 3.

If you really want to, you could take turns playing the galaxies. You could get one star and then switch off with your child. It would be very similiar to the old games, you'd just both be using Mario. You could both play for the same star twice (like the first version) or one person would beat it and then next move on (like MB3).

It's a GREAT game and I wouldn't let the 2 player mode stop me from buying it, you can definitely work around it.

You too!

And say hi to Mister J for us Harley!

Thanks!!! Did I mention I love your screen name?

Hope everyone had great BF's!! DH and I both have colds, so we spent nearly all day yesterday playing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (rated M). It's super fun!!! We have the Wii Zapper gun, but neither of used it cuz it's kind of clunky. But it's fun with Link's Crossbow training.

I know most of you aren't buying M rated games, but if anyone wants more info about RE, let me know!

I got DH a Wii for Christmas. I could've sworn that he said earlier in the year that he wanted one...he was debating it and the 360 and I thought he'd settled on Wii. Now I'm not so sure I did the right thing. We have an Xbox and his favorite games are the M for mature, like Grand Theft Auto. I was looking on Amazon yesterday and the games all look like they are meant for young kids. He's not into sports or racing or Star Wars. Can someone recommend a good grown up game?

I know my girls will love it. Is the Harry Potter for Wii anything special? I've already bought it for Nintendo DS.

Should I go ahead an get an extra remote and nunchuck thingy?

Have faith, there are some GREAT M rated games for the Wii and many more sure to come. My big question, though, is what type of M games does he enjoy? Name me some of his favorites.

I suggest Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (see my last post). Sice he was an Xbox guy, there's a good chance he's never played a RE game before. This really isn't a problem, Umbrella Chronicles is a sum up of all the previous games. It plays differently than RE 4.

I also suggest Call of Duty (if he likes war games) and definitely Metroid. Also Man Hunt 2 is a biggie.

Please, go to http://wii.ign.com for lots more info on these games. I believe you can even search for M rated games. Of course there are a TON of games adults can enjoy that aren't rated M. Zelda, Mario Galaxy, and Zack & Wiki just to name a few.

I'm sure your DH and mine could have some great discussion once you give him the system. My DH (The Horned King) loves all that M stuff too.

With all that said many older adults feel strongly about having an Xbox or a PS2 or 3 in order to have the graphics and a great deal more mature games. I think the Wii gives you the best of both worlds, good mature games and amazing innovative games that you can't get anywhere else.

Harry Potter is great! It's really fun to do the spells with your wand and use the Maurader's Map. It's definitely not a game only for adults, but both DH and I really enjoyed. Make sure you read more on IGN.

I would suggest getting a second wii-mote if there's even a chance you will play or any of your DH's friends would want to play.

You most likely don't need a Nunchuck. Don't buy it til you find a game you need it with.

If you need me to explain anything further, just ask! :teeth:

OK ~ Silly Question ....... Are the Wii games CD-Like or Card-Like? Meaning are they more like the GameCube games or the DS Games :confused3

I was trying to think of a good way to store all these games....any ideas? We have the GameCube games in a CD holder....but the DS games are soo hard to keep track of.

They are CDs, exactly like the Game Cube games. In fact, you can play your Game Cube games in the Wii. :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone -

What is the Wii princess game all about? does anyone have it yet? or is it not available yet? would love to hear the feedback!! Also, thoughts on HSM wii game?

Dh says little girls will probably like it (Disney Princess). Here's all the info IGN has. Not much. It came out a couple of weeks ago.

So far I've only seen one DIS review for HSM (everyone is saving it for Christmas). I think anyone who loves HSM and sing-a-longs will probably have a good time with the game, I just don't know how much anyone will actually play it. I think it might lose its appeal quickly. Here's IGN's review (they didn't really like it) http://wii.ign.com/articles/832/832875p1.html

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I weeded through alot of pages and didn't see it. How difficult is it to set up Wii??? I am really techno challenged :scared: . Will I be saying some unDisney like things because I can't get it to set up on Christmas morning???

It's very simple and has great easy to use instructions.

The only tricky things are hooking it up to the internet and synching a second controller. But the instructions for that are also easy to follow and more information is available in the first post on the thread.

I HIGHLY suggest that you try and set it up the night before if you can, just in case. But it really isn't that difficult. Maybe you can do a trial run sometime before chistmas so you are more comfortable? But it's not really necessary.

Thanks. I read the first pages before I was lucky enough to get one, so then I was concentrating on where to get it. I'll re-read it. Great suggestion to do a dry run before Christmas.

Has anyone had a Wii not work right out of the box? Is it advisable to wait until Christmas Eve to try it out?

Another question: We are a family of 5. We will have SM Galaxy, Raymon II, Metroid, Zack and Wiki, Wii Play, SM Olympics and Big Brain Academy. Do we need nunchucks? Do we need more than 2 remotes?

Thanks!!

Any other game suggestions (DH 36 (war games), Me 37, (Kingdom Hearts, Zelda, Lego) DS10 (Lego, Zelda, racing, Ty, Call of Duty 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, ) DD8 ( small amount PS2 Spongebob and DS HSM) and DD5 (no experience at all but getting a Leapster for Christmas). (Our system right now is a PS2).

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions! His favorites are all of the Grand Theft Autos. He also enjoyed Blood Rayne. I remember buying The Matrix and he took it back. That's all I can think of that are "his" games. Even though it's "his" xbox and we have 40+ games. haha.

Hey Sarah,
Have you heard anything about Mario Sonic Olympics? It has suddenly appeared on the Christmas list here.

I think my mom has mentioned that Dancing With the Stars is available on Wii 100 times now! Too bad she doesn't have a Wii! We might have to rent that one for Christmas Day just for her! :rotfl:

becca-becca - Of the games you have listed, I don't think you need more than 2 wi-motes. The only games we use the nunchucks for Boxing and Tanks (from Wii Sports and Wii Play). We don't have Rabbits so I don't know about that one. We typically use all 4 wi-motes with Mario Party. We can use it with Tennis but it makes the screen pretty small. Hope that helps.
