Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

TRU was out of Super Mario Galaxy of course. I went to Costco for some other things on my way home. I almost always look at the games here to see what they have (they are hit or miss) and no SMG here either. But while standing there I looked down at the bottom shelf where all the boxes were and there were boxes that said Mario Galaxy on them. I opened one up and the games were all ready for the shelf with price etc so I did get that one after all. And because I used my DS's bday gift card at TRU I told him as long as it's a game that both kids will play I'll give them one this weekend. That way it'll keep them busy and occupied and maybe they'll stop asking for stuff over the next month.

Good work! :teeth:

Had mine for about 11 months now and no problems.

I purchased an extra Guitar Hero III that I can either return to Toys R Us or offer up to anyone interested on Dis - just what I paid for it plus shipping. PM if interested - Mod delete if not permitted.

Have you ever seen it on sale? I am thinking this would be way easier than worrying about charging the batteries outside the controller. Too many chances for that little battery compartment door to get broken when taking in/out! My kids have ruined more tv remotes because they play with those!

Also, I have read the ign.com reviews for Big Brain Academy (supposed to be $28 at Target on BF). What do you all think? I am thinking of this for me! But DH and kids can play too (they are 10 & 13)

Thanks

The cheapest I've seen it is $19.99 on Amazon, but it only lasted a couple of days. It's totally worth full price. As long as the kids always put them back on the stand we're they're not playing you'll have full batteries and no lost remotes! The only issue at all is you have to leave the cases (those ugly clear plastic things they are now putting with the systems that fit over the remotes) off to charge them. So if you kid needs the protective case for some reason, you have to put them in and out all the time. We leave ours off, I think they are kinda stupid.

BBA is a great game for adults and kids. I really like all of the brain game type games (most are on the DS). I think $28 is a good buy there.

Wow, I hadnt seen this yet. I guess I'm really behind. We've had our wii since last year and I didnt notice the new things for it. How much is this? Where can I find it for that best price?

Also, I asked about the green emerald. How does he clear it and start completely over? Or should I just buy him a new GE? He has action replay. Thanks so much.. :thumbsup2

I think normal retail for it is $29.99 and I think it's sold out of a lot of places. See the post right before your post for more info.

When he starts the game he should have an option for deleting the file before he selects it to begin play. I would try deleting it before buying a new one.

Did I read it right....on the new Lego Star Wars game -- you use the Wii controller for the lightsaber movement?

I was going to pass (we have both LSW1 and LSW2 for PS2), but I think my guy would *love* having his own "lightsaber" in the controller.

Before I try to track it down - I wanted to confirm that I'm understanding it. I've heard about a new Star Wars game for Wii to be released next year (Spring) that uses the controller as the lightsaber. How will this be different?

Thanks!!

This is a quote from IGN's review:
You can either use the Wiimote like a tratitional controller, pressing the B button to swing your lightsaber, or you can swing the Wiimote to strike.

So yes, you use the wiimote like a lightsaber, if you want to.

This is the info on the other game, which still doesn't have an official release date (or much of any information). This leads me to believe it won't be out until at least summer if not later.

This entry in the Star Wars saga casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice", unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi – and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny. The Wii version also adds an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master.

Its a much more mature Star Wars, more like the movies than the fun, family-friendly lego games.

Super Mario Galaxy is really awesome...three songs really sound like Disney songs :goodvibes (astral observetory, good egg galaxy and gusty garden galaxy)

I preordered this for DH for xmas. I got it about a week ago. He knows about it, and it's killing him that I won't let him open it before. He swears its a game we all will want to play, our 5 year old dd included, but after reading a bit more, I'm not so sure....

I think you missunderstood...THe lego starwars game is not mature and is 100% stuiable for the whole family. Both kids and adults will find it fun and humorous.

The "mature" star wars game is the game that is set to be released next year. it is not out yet and is a more realistic game...not a lego game.

I didn't even notice it, but now that you mention it...:thumbsup2

Yep, what he said. Your 5 year old can play lego star wars. They might not be very good at it, but they can play.

And I really shouldn't have used the word mature since games are rated with that. I'm sure the new game will get a Teen rating at the highest. Star wars games aren't usually bloody (due to the light sabers). I just meant what DH said, it'll be more realistic instead of cartoony.

Sorry about that!

No problem....it wouldn't have mattered anyway....DH is so excited to play this game - with or without us!! :rotfl:
