Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

So where can one buy a Wii these days? I've not seen any locally when we look and when I check Amazon all I see are outside sellers who want over $400 for them! Any advice? DW and I have decided to take the Wii plunge! :thumbsup2

The information in the FAQ is still the best way to find a Wii at this time.

Stores typically hold their systems until the Sunday ads come out, so the best way to score one is to see which stores have Wiis in their ads and head to those stores before they open.

You can also just call around and see if any local stores know when they might get more.

They seem to be much easier to get now, but you still aren't able to walk into any store and buy one at any time yet.

Good luck!!

Yay me I got a Wii with out any effort.

I wasn't looking for one for me but my sister told me if I saw one to get one for her.

I was in Walmart Monday night & I walked by the electronics dept (this is a small Walmart in a not to populated area). I was looking at DVD's for sale & I said, I wonder if they have any Wii's or if I am able to play & try it out.

Well I looked at the case & there was a box right there in front of me. It was about 9pm so the store was desolate & the workers were bringing out stock to different depts to put on the shelves.

I found some employee & asked him if it was an empty box or a Wii & he told me it was probably an empty box but when he walked over he said "nope you are in luck its a Wii".

So of course I bought it with all intentions of giving it to my sister (and she would pay for it) but I am loving tennis & bowling so far & can kick some butt (and get some exercise) in boxing.

I think my dh thinks he is the Kingpin these days bowling. So I think I am keeping it, plus my almost 6 yo loves it & is better at some of the tennis games then me & can actually hit the baseball when pitched to her (hopefully that helps her in T-ball!).

Thanks for sharing Kerri! I have heard reports of people just walking in and finding Wiis, it just depends on the demand in your area. But this definitely shows that the supply is finally catching up with the demand.

Yippy! We got our Wii!!!! I ordered from Circuit City, had it sent to my Mom in USA and she sent it here....and it made it through customs to us! I set it up yesterday, as a surprise for the boys. They are having a BLAST! Now to get some more games and more controllers. Actually found some controllers here, but not willing to pay their price...yet;) I may change my mind as my 3 boys and their million friends try to share 2 controllers!

Thanks for the help!
Katy

Congrats Katy!

Let us know if we can help any further!

Wii got a Wii!!! We tried 5 or 6 places on Saturday but nobody would sell us ones - either they had none in stock or else they had plenty but were holding them until they opened on Sunday morning because of ads they were putting in the Sunday newspapers, which ticked me off because that particular policy is - unintentionally or not - discriminatory against any religion that happens to meet on Sunday mornings  ; as a music leader at a church there is no way I can be at any store when they open at 10 or 11 a.m. on a Sunday morning to stand in line for any product, so we were not hopeful that there would be any left. However, when I left church around 12:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon I called the Toys R' Us and Best Buy nearest to us and both said they had one or two left. So I drove over and stopped at the closest one first - Best Buy. The lady I found in electronics said I was in luck because they still had one or two left after turning some people down during the early rush - they had a limit of one Wii console per household and there were people in line trying to buy 5 or 6 to sell on eBay, or a husband and wife each wanting to puchase one and then pay for them on checks that list both of their names, etc. So we were able to get one of the last ones in the city!

So we then spent about 4 hours playing Wii sports that afternoon until I had to go back to church for the evening services. DW and I are both sore now, of course - sore arms, sore shoulders, sore back - from all the motion but we love it. It definitely gets you some exercise! :yay: Wii are going to stop by the local video rental place today to rent a few games to start finding out what games we want to own. :teacher:

Wii love our Wii! It is swiit - amaziing - totalii aweseome. :thumbsup2

congrats! Glad you found and are enjoying your Wii.
I stoped by my local TRU sunday to pick up the new Pokemon game for the DS and having worked there asked about the Wii sales form the morning. I was told they had 80 systems come in and all were sold by 11:00am(store opened at 10:00)!

I am amazed that this long after lanuch they are still selling so quick! I am truely excited that Fun enjoyable gaming is finally beating out trumped up graphic button mashing look pretty but play like junk games!

We got one yesterday too!!!! We volunteer in our church bookstore once a month, and yesterday was our day to work. We've been casually talking about getting one for a while, so I searched the newspaper ads before we left the house, and told my DH that, if he was still interested, Toys R Us, Best Buy, and Circuit City was going to have them, all three of whch are right near our church. He laughed and asked if we really needed it, which I took as a "no", so I dropped it. Best Buy is right behind our church, and as we drove past at 8:30, there were a few people waiting outside. We worked the bookstore until the 9:15 service started, and then we left to go have breakfast. We had to be back by 10:30 to open the store and then attend the 11:00 service. We finished breakfast by 10:00, and instead of heading back, DH headed towards Toys R Us. They didn't open until 11:00, and there were about 10 cars worth of people waiting in their cars. We didn't even try Circuit City, because I knew they were passing out vouchers an hour before opening, so we figured theirs were all gone. By then we weren't very optimistic that we would still find one, but we went to Best Buy, and as we were walking in, we were passed by a lot of people coming out with Wiis under their arms. Luckily we got back to the game section and there was a cart with about 9 of them left! DH picked up a box and asked, "So, do you want one?". We got a console, Wii Play w/ the controller, Super Paper Mario for DD, and a third controller so all three of us could play. DD was so excited, she didn't want to go back to church, but of course we had to. But, as soon as we got home, we played all afternoon and evening, only taking a break for dinner. We are also going to see if we can rent some more games today. We love it!

Funny story: When we pulled into the Best Buy parking lot, there was a car in front of us with two young guys sound asleep in the front seat. They were still there when we left. After we got to church, DH noticed on the receipt that they had charged us twice for Wii Play, so he ran back to get it fixed. He parked in the same spot and said the guys were STILL there sleeping! I can't help but wonder if they had gotten there early to get a Wii, and then fell asleep waiting. If so, I would have loved to see what happened when they woke up and realized they missed out!!!!:rotfl:

That's great. It seems everyone is hooked. I know we are enjoying as a family
which is more than I can say for the other games. We have family tournaments, play teams and who can stay "PRO".:goodvibes

I do have a question though. I just bought a 3rd remote(to get Wii play) and for now that's enough. What I wanted to know is if we play 4 players can we use the 3 remotes and have one share for the 4th? Say 2nd and 4th share? Will that work?(Hope you understand what I'm saying.)
I'll probably find out when my kids get a hold of it for their birthday but figured I'd ask now.

I rreally have to slow on the spending so #4 will come later.

Thanks for any info.

It depends on the game. Usually if its a game where players take turns (like bowling) then you can use one Wii-mote for multiple players. If you play at the same time (like Excite truck) then you have to have seperate controllers.
HTH!

So now we need some game recommendations - what should we play? DW & I enjoy Wii Sports, but want more. I rented Tiger Woods 2007 (for me) and then the Spongebob Squarepants game - but we took Spongebob back after about ten minutes because I wasn't paying attention at Blockbuster and didn't realize it was a 1 player game. So we swapped it out for Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz and found it to be extremely annoying and frustrating and turned it off after less than 30 minutes lest we end up deliberately throwing our WiiMotes through the TV screen to make it stop!

So what other games are good? Especially for two player so DW & I can play with or against each other?

The best multiplayer games are still to come. Mario Party is coming out at the end of May and Smash Brothers is later this year, so keep those in mind.

Right now the best(most popular) games are Zelda, Super Paper Mario, and Wii Play. The first two are single player (though you both can have your own save slots) and Wii Play is more popular because of getting the "free" controller. If you like other sports games SXX Blur is great once you get used to it. (It's snowboarding)

Best multiplayers...hmm...Excite Truck if you like racing and Wario Ware and/or Rayman: Raving Rabbids if you like mini games (Rayman is probably my number one pic).

You can get a ton of information here: www.ign.com just go to the wii page.

I'm sure DH or some of the other regulars will have some other ideas!

Thw DW is right as always I have some good ideas....

1)I agree Excite Truck is a great 2 player raceing game.
2)Madden Football 07 is a blast! There are 2 but's here though...1.) you will not only need 2 wiimotes, but 2 nunchuck attachments. 2.) Madden 08 will be out in August so you may want to wait.
3)I have yet to meet anyone who has played Wario Ware that didn't enjoy it.
4)Rayman Raving Rabits....you get to shoot crazy bunnies with plungers at certain points! Nuff said!
5)SSX Blur is ton's of fun but has a VERY HIGH learning curve...took me over an hours and a half to fully get the controls down and I game ALOT!

Not to many other multiplayer games out there right now. Like the DW said Mario Part 8 is at the end of MAY(28th?) and there are a ton more comming. Early Year(spring) and Summer are usually very slow in releaseing of games. Although We have got some great one!

If you haven't picked them up yet... you must buy
ZELDA:Twlight Princess(will take between 40-70 hours of play to beat) and SUPER PAPER MARIO (between 20-40) Both games are a blast. And while only single player they a deep games with great stories.

OK onto other stuff...

lol I think Stephan Colbert is going to win. his fans are out in force! lol

But Shiggy is 2nd!

I was going to get my boys the Super Monkey Ball Wii game but after reading the last few responses am now thinking I'd be better off with either Rayman or Wario?? We had Wario for the GC but neither boy liked it. They have liked Monkey Ball for the GC. I know nothing about Rayman, I'll check out ign.com.

Or maybe Paper Mario would be better but they have showed no interest in this game since it was released.:confused3

I wish we didn't have to wait so long for the Mario vs Sonic Olympics game.

On another note, I was looking at upcoming DS games and they list the Opera browser as coming for sale? Although I'm not sure this will be worth the $$ as it's said to be slow and you have to be very close to the wireless access point.

Anyone know the highest number of players you can play in one game on Wii sports bowling? (And we have 2 wiimotes.) Is it possible to play 6 players with 2 wiimotes? I guess we can try it out and see later tonight.

I think max number is 4 players at a time...not sure on the number of wiimotes needed as i never tried it.

Stick with Monkey Ball if that's what they like. Wario and Rayman are similiar in that they are both mini game games. Besides Mario Party comes out at the end of the month and it's the best minigame game.

I don't think we're going to get it right away if at all. When they start making games that link with the Wii and DS we might need to, but they may include it with those games at that time.

yep! Already saw both of those TyeDye but thanks!

I mean really nintendo is pumping out a million systems a month. Hard to keep up with that kind of demand.
