Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread

There is a one bedroom at Saratoga for the nights of marathon weekend...

I would book what you can for the weekend, as Cobbler said, Saratoga has a 1 bedroom available right now. I would book that and then waitlist for another resort if you want. People do cancel all the time. Just keep checking.

You're going to love it! You will do fine and then you'll be hooked like the rest of us. You'll watch your money fly out the window in RunDisney registration fees. :lmao:

I just came back from the Disneyland 1/2. It was there that we decided on doing the WDW 1/2 again. We're DVC members as well and right after we got home we tried to book something, anything for the marathon weekend. We grabbed a one bedroom at Saratoga - it was the only thing available. I would have preferred a two bedroom but the one-bedroom will have to do. Grab it while you can.

Best waitlist bets after SSR are OKW and AKV. Since you only get two, I would select one of these. Or, select one of them and then you dream location. I know the wait list is supposedly first in first served, but the one in front of you may be looking for a night out of your booking winder that would keep it hung up.

Thanks so much all for the support! I was wondering how the discounts are through the the runDisney travel packages. I'm an AP holder as well, so I'm hopeful I can get a better rate through that as well.

Thanks for the reminder everyone.....Just signed up to volunteer at the Detroit Free Press Marathon. Last year I handed out medals, which,by the way, are pretty awesome, but heavy! (and shirts with no sponsors this year!) This year, I will work the expo.

Hope to be working my way back into running by then--maybe will give the 5k a go (or not---need to be smart about ramping back up)

Maura

So, with 18 weeks starting tomorrow, what plan is everyone doing? I am doing a mix between Pfitz 18/55 and Higdon Intermediate 2.

We are doing HH Intermediate 2 with some additional speedwork...starts tomorrow! Did 32 miles this week!

If anyone is near Indy,my husband runs the Mini Marathon each year. It goes around the Indianapolis Speedway.

I am starting week 11 of Galloway's Marathon plan for Experienced Runners who want to finish in the epright position (although I am not too prout to crawl lol)
So far, I have only missed 2 runs, and that was last week. I went back to work after a month off, and only working half days all summer, and I was *tired*!!! That and the rain kept me away from 2 runs. Hopefully I don't miss any more! Luckily, they were both short runs, so it's all good so far!

We do too! That track might be my least favorite park....it is just soooooo long!

I'm doing Galloway for those just wanting to finish. :thumbsup2

I've been training for a bit because we have a half we are doing in November, but I'm ramping up miles to prep for the Marathon.

Today was a 13 (we tacked on the 0.1 for good measure) mile run and it was really good. I'm hoping to get a 2:30 time for the run in November and we ran today at a 2:39, so I'm hoping I can manage it. Either way, I'll be happy just to finish.

I'm doing the Time Goal Galloway Plan. Just did my (almost) 15 miler yesterday. Speed training this Saturday. Since I help do strength and endurance training with DD's soccer team on Saturdays, I plan to incorporate my training with theirs this weekend.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards. Please excuse the typos.

Is it expensive? Do you weekly emails or daily?

$300 for 6 months. I email him every Tuesday with an update and he emails back within the next few days.
I've benefitted greatly from it so it's worth it to me. He has me running very low run/walk ratios so it requires a leap of faith. I decided when I signed up that I would do whatever he tells me, even when I'm skeptical. I was doing run 2 min/walk 1 min and now I'm running much less on long runs. Just a warning!
My Magic Mile has improved from 9:39 in July to 8:52 today.

We're doing Higdon's Novice Supreme. So technically tomorrow starts our week 13, but it's also week 1 of his Novice 1 plan.

What are you all doing for cross training? I've been really lax about it, meaning...I haven't been cross training. I have a gym membership but no access to a pool. Would TRX classes be too much or should I keep it to the bike or elliptical?

I'm doing Higdon Intermediate 2 but am thinking of adding mileage to the weekday runs. I've read that Higdon's plans don't really have enough mileage, but I don't know if that is just his novice plans. Any opinions?

I think in general, HH plans are a little low in mileage and that hitting 55-65-70 mpw is probably better. However, it depends on what your base is. DH and I only have a base of 25-30 mpw so doing a PFitz 18/70 was out of the question...that is just too big of an increase over 18 weeks! So, we are going with HH, adding speedwork, and will try a higher mileage plan next time.

For cross training, we typically do Insanity or Asylum and then try to fit in another day of upper body each week. I think TRX is fine as long as you still have the energy for your runs.

No cross training here other than core work, but I run 6 days a week and need a day of full rest.

Just finished the Broadway Bridge 1/2 Marathon in Kansas City. Not bad considering that I haven't that distance since June's Hospital Hill 1/2 Marathon, and run for the first time in a month with a 5K on monday. PR'ed by 15 Minutes!!So pumped for Disney's Wine and Dine!!!!
