Not running the Wine And Dine. Doing the Goofy race in January. Got my C2C out in disneyland over the weekend.

My goal was also C2C in DL. Good job! Now onto my first full in January WDW. Eek.

Go get Band Aid brand's bandaids for blisters. It comes in a silver box. A bit pricey for 8 bandages but worth it. It treats blisters so that they heal faster. I had two blisters going into the Disneyland 1/2. For three days prior, I wore these bandages. One had popped so it was raw. The blister bandage has an ointment in it. I also supplemented with a triple antibiotic over the counter cream to make sure it didn't get worse or infect.

I agree with this. Just used blister band aids and they worked really well for me. For my long runs, I put duct tape over them. Worked like magic!

Off topic question, but this thread seems to have a lot of traffic...hope it's ok?

I am running a Half on Sunday, I have 3 very large blisters from my run last Sunday (and they are very large, one is almost 2"!)...so my question is, what's the best way to treat them for THIS race, should I tape 'em really tight or lube 'em up or ? I know they are going to re-bubble, but I'm hoping to minimize the pain for as long as possible.

TIA

I don't have a great suggestion for treating them for your half...but what kind of socks do you wear? You may want to invest in some non-cotton options. There was a thread on this about a week ago...check here for some recommendations: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2982002

I just found out about a half marathon close to my city that I want to do. It has a 7 hour time limit for the half and the full. Starting with this Saturday my long runs for Galloway are 11, 3, 13, 3(half marathon I want to do), 15, 3, 17. How should I do my long runs to still train effectively if I decide to do this half marathon. Probably a stupid idea....but I also thought about doing the full instead of the half that weekend. I have only been walk/running consistently for about 5 months but I have done both distances before (over a year and a half ago). Would doing the full be a recipe for disaster?

Just to clarify, the (possible) full marathon you want to do is 4 weeks from now, and you're also training for a Disney race?

If so...sorry to be blunt, but I think that yes, this would be a really bad idea. I think there was some discussion a couple of pages back where someone wanted to work a half into their training plan. If you look back a few pages there are some good suggestions that you can probably apply to your schedule to do the half.

But I really, really wouldn't do the full. People train 16+ weeks to get ready for a full marathon. Deciding to do it on a whim 4 weeks out seems like a good way to get injured...plus recovery from that full may throw off whatever other training you're doing. :confused3

Angie Definitely get the blister bandages. They're a silicon-like pad with adhesive on the entire side that adheres totally to your foot. They help post-race, only issue might be that depending on where the blisters are, they might not last the whole race (if your foot gets really sweaty)

irishtwins1112 Do not do the full--too soon, too likely to screw up your established training. But the half--Yeah, why not--if you treat the race like a long training run and not a full-out race (something I struggle with!). Do you have any float in your training schedule? If so, go 11,3 then something slightly longer the next weekend and then do your half, and resume training (i.e. 3,15.....).

Oh, no offense taken. I wanted honest opinions. I was mainly leaning towards the half anyway. Sometimes races are so tempting and it is good to get some perspective. That is why I posted;). Thanks for your input!

Oh good! :flower3: I found the suggestions I was talking about from a couple of pages back...maybe you can do something like this? Hope it's okay to quote you, Kim and Coach Charles! :teeth:

Swap the 13 and the 4. I have had this come up in my schedule and I just swapped the long runs. This way you are tapering for the Half. The 15 miles one week later might be tough on the legs, but you could run/walk with emphasis on walk lol

I am going to differ from Kim.

I am thinking Galloway based on your post so the program goes...

4-11-4-13-4-15-4-17.. Correct?

Here is what I would do as your coach

4-11-4-13-13-4-10-17-...

The problem with Jeff's build is that running a long race on the off week upsets the body and the training rhythm. Take the week following off for recovery, then the next week that would have been short, make it an intermediate distance to get back up and on the plan.

That works....

OR

Just reduce all long runs by 2 for the rest of the program. Leaves you with a final long run of 24. Not a perfect execution of the plan, but close enough. Those lost 2 miles will not break the bank in any way.

ETA: Or what Maura said above!

I would try some moleskin. DD had large, painful warts that I used moleskin on so she could play her soccer games.

Any of the mentioned Blister BandAids, Moleskin or Duct Tape. Though, if the areas are not dried up, the BandAid may be the better product.

I just found it too. Thanks!

I would second sticking with the half... A full is possible at that point in training, but honestly, you will not feel good and possibly injure yourself if you try longer. I could very well cause you to miss Disney

Not running the Wine And Dine. Doing the Goofy race in January. Got my C2C out in disneyland over the weekend.

Great Job. You 'just' doing Goofy or are you adding the 5k, also? Funny, I have never run the 5k but still run 3-5 miles that morning to shake things out.

Congratulations. We just got our C2C as well during the Disneyland 1/2. The clinking of wearing the two medals together was really, really cool.

My newest bucket list: full marathon. Setting my sights on 2014 for that. In the meantime, I want to run as many Disney 1/2's as money will allow.

Wish they had another type of medal for running all the Disney races possible in a year - or at least all the WDW races in a year. That would be fun to shoot for.

I think it's called bankruptcy.

Congradulations to you too. C2C was on my bucket list and now the Full which is on 2013 along with the goofy. Cross both of that once i get there in January. Killing 2 birds with one stone.

People that had the medals clinging was annoying until i had mine out in Disneyland. No more being jealous. :yay:
Brought the medals into work just to show off this morning. Trying to inspire some people that dosn't do any exercise to go out to run and work on a goal.

Doing the goofy is already way over board. The Marathon is my first so i think i am pushing it already. I hurt myself the week before the Disneyland 1/2 and got hurt a couple of more places during the race. Trying to recover from my injury as of now. I'll hopefully start training next week once the pain has gone.

Any insight on how someone could still register for the full even though it's sold out? My fiance and I are training together and have already registered, but a friend who was hoping to do it with us didn't make it in time. I saw a comment upthread about buying a registration on ebay? What's the deal with that, it doesn't really sound legit. I also know TNT is an option, what about other charities? I'm just trying to figure out what other options our friend would have for registering. Thanks!

I know of a travel agent that still has Marathon weekend packages available. I'm not sure of DISboard stance on me saying what Agent it is...

I was going to do Team In Training bit you have to raise about $3500. It's a good organization but I just wasn't sure I'd make that amount. I think you have to have it by November or else you have to put that amount up.

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards. Please excuse the typos.

That was my post and the comment was to 'purchase' a medal on Ebay... Poorly written as I now re-read

There are charities listed on the runDisney site. One could also run Goofy. Or enter Goofy and just run the marathon. Charities include:

A-T Children's Project
American Diabetes Association/Team Diabetes
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital / St. Jude Heroes Team
American Liver Foundation
ASPCA/Team ASPCA
Autism Speaks
Joints In Motion
Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy/Run For Our Sons
Tourette Syndrome Association/Team TSA

Note I would not go for any third party purchase as that goes against the contract we have with the race. At best, some one else get your credit for hard work, worst case is that something bad happens and identification becomes an issue.

Just got back from my 5th Disneyland Half. :cool1: Taking a week or two off, then back to training for Disneyworld and my Coast 2 Coast!! I'm excited, haven't been to Disneyworld in about 10 years.
