It's a bruise on my calf. I don't know if I'm "jarring" the muscle during my runs. No stinging but like a typical b&b, feels tender when I press it. I really can't find any info on google.

I would seriously consider visiting the doc. The Achilles insertion point covers much of the calf muscle and a bruise in the area described can be a sign of an issue starting to develop. The safe play is to have a hands on look.

Me too!! :faint: Are you going with your husband or on your own this time? (I'm making assumptions of the guy who was in your pictures ;-) )

Wearing a costume? Do people really wear costumes for the marathon? Or is that more of a thing for the Princess?

My husband is joining me but will be running on his own for this one. He doesn't like the whole r/w/r thing and says it makes him tired, and besides, he runs way faster than I do so he will be waiting for me at the finish line. Hopefully with a nice bottle of chocolate milk and a banana!!:cool1:

I am semi dressing up. Not a full costume but I will be trying to emulate my favorite character, Stitch. I've found a few things that I think I might get.

Does anyone think I might be too warm in a l/s shirt? I could always pull the sleeves back if I get hot. I'm trying to figure out what I'll do with my hands to make them look like his. I was thinking long, black, fake nails but I might get annoyed by them if I can't close my fist while running.

You might check here for lots of color choices:

Who knows on comfort. In 2010 you would have been freezing. Most years I think the long sleeves would be fine, but you may want to have a backup plan.

I second the back up plan. If this is the half, then you have a higher likelihood of being able to stay in sleeves. Most years the full just gets too hot. As reference, I normally run in a singlet or short sleeves. That last year I ran with long sleeves for the entire marathon was 2010... I do not think I stayed in long sleeves for any other Disney full

I wish I would have had a backup plan in 2010. Fortunately, I was prepared for anything down to 37 degrees (gloves, long sleeves, arm warmers, etc., all of which I wore at the same time for the race), unfortunately, at 27 degrees it would have been nice to have something for my legs too. They actually went numb at one point about half way through.

This year I'm going as Peter Pan with green tights. I can throw a base layer under my top if it gets cold again.

This is so funny! This sounds like my husband, exactly. Never ever a runner and he goes out with me to run and finishes a 7 mile run about a half hour before me! He left me in his dust somewhere in the first mile and said the run walk run method is not working for him. It's too difficult. Just try running straight through. It's so much easier...

Well, it is not easier for me - yet. I need my walk breaks!

Now a question about foot discomfort... I ran 8 miles last weekend. Toward the end of the run I was getting some discomfort in the forward part of my foot on both feet, more behind the area of the big toe. I asked a running store shoe fit person and she thought the resolution is to add more cushioning, i guess in terms of shoes and socks??? Does anyone think that sounds right? Hoping someone out here might have some ideas on this. Thanks.

I'm debating my costuming choices... I'm pretty sure I can't do what I'm doing for the 1/2 marathons. I learned some lessons but for the full I'm going to run in something actually intended for running which means doing either a) Minnie, b) Daisy, c) Alice, d) Cheshire cat... okay I have more thinking to do.

A person to person contact is much better than anything we could give...

You may want to have teh fit peron look at your gait compared with the shoe you are in's purpose. Just a double check

Cute Mami! I have a Minnie print Running Skirt that I can definitely wear, but if I want to bring my phone, I'll need a running belt. And that's always hit or miss on comfort for me. I've been wanting a new Sparkle skirt with a peacock design (funny, since I wore a peacock feather for the Princess, I'm not a peacock fanatic, I swear, I just like the design on the skirt) but I can't think of a Disney character that goes with that design. I just want an excuse to buy the skirt because they are super comfortable and have big pockets so I won't need to bring my belt.

I am still on a high from registering for the race a few hours ago. :cool1:

I love my Spibelt. Its red though so I guess I'll have to find one in blue. I ran with my iPhone in it and it didn't jostle too much or bother me and it will fit my ID and gels too.

I'm thinking I might bring a small camera so I don't have to mess with my iPhone that much. I use my phone to track my runs. At PHM I had to constantly change out apps to take pics with the characters and sometimes the handlers didn't understand the whole, there isn't a button to press that takes the picture so some came out blurry. If I bring a camera, I'll just use my phone in an arm strap.

Anyone have suggestions for tiny but powerful point and shoot cameras?

Possible sources:
- tired feet (is 8 miles a lot, or common for you);
- worn shoes (if cushion is gone)
- wrong shoes (might be time to try something new?); how much cushion do yours have?
- foot injury?

Socks can help, but can't really make a bad shoe good. I like the Balega socks for comfort.

Ok, we just got off the Disney Magic this week and now we get a sneak peek at the metal - I am motivated now!! I have a triathalon this weekend and then it's back to a total running focus. :cool1:

Oh, and talking about costumes, I have a Minnie Sparkle skirt and black short sleeved top ready to go. I will pick up a long sleeved top and/or some arm warmers at some point to make sure I'm prepared for cooler weather. :goodvibes

Canon makes really good point and shoot cameras. I love mine! It's a S90 (I think 95 would be the newer model). I hear their Elph series are good and smaller than mine.

Hmmm. Looked a few up on B&H Photo. Since I have my anniversary, birthday and Christmas coming up, I'm figuring I might convince DH to get one for me. LOL

To continue with costume ideas- I got a dark turquoise running skirt and matching tank and matching long-sleeved top. I am going to make a gold belt and crown and be Merida:). Can't wait! May even look for some red curly extensions for my ponytail:p

Love my sparkle skirts! I'm trying to decide on one...I'm thinking berry smoothie for the full.

I just took the picture so it's on flickr but I can never get pictures to work on here... So far it's cute and the skirt is definitely fun to wear.

I like the medal because honestly, when I think about it, this insanity was indeed all started by a mouse. It's his fault I'm running this in the first place so it's only appropriate that this is acknowledged on the medal.
And if the center flips, I will flip! with excitement! in a good way!

That looks GREAT! AWESOME job!!

I love my husband dearly but he is killing me. He works such crazy hours and is constantly putting in large amounts of OT. Every time he tries to leave work on time, a new case will pop up and he'll have to go out again. This has always affected my ability to go running. On the weeks he has his early AM tour, I have to get up at 3 AM to use the gym to get my runs in because he leaves for work at 5. If I don't go then, I can't run because I have work and when I get home, I have the kids. This week is his late tour and he doesn't start until 3 PM, but I'm up by 5 so I can get a run in in the roads and then get the kids ready for camp (soon school) and then go to work. Lately he's been coming home at 3 or 4 in the morning during his PM week and it breaks my sleep. I should just get up and stay up but then I'm up for the rest of the day. Ugh. I'm so tired, it's not funny. I know he's tired too so I really try not to complain but I can't function! Ok, I just needed to get that of my chest.

Sincerely,

Cranky Wife
