Just in case you didn't know...

Marathon registrations at 53%
Goofy Challenge registrations are at 72%!

Oh my! first for both and you are doing both??? You are brave! I will be doing my first full and it scares me to death!!!:worship:

It was totally my friend's idea. Me and 2 other friends signed up at the same time. We all were on a Google+ hangout together. Once we hit that official register button, this was the expression on all 3 of our faces---> :scared1: It'll be good that we're all 3 doing this to keep each other accountable for the training.

Brave?? I have other nouns, possibly young is a better descriptor. It is not something that i would encourage folks to do. Will he make it, well youth is on his side. It will be a long weekend for sure

:yay: I'm hoping that my youthful athletic abilities will help me...doesn't mean I can start slacking on the training. I'm only gonna be a young college kid for so long. :goodvibes Also, give me a little credit! I think it's brave for anyone, of any age, to do the Goofy! ;)

Signed up yesterday for my first Goofy. Hopefully I will be able to train properly this year. I hated having to walk so much last year........QUOTE]

Don't be too hard on yourself. Speed will come with miles trained and proper speed drills. Set yourself up with a good schedule you can realistically keep and your Goofy will be lots of FUN. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I believe that walking fast can be more challenging than jogging or running. I started walking January 2010 in preparation for Goofy 2011. Walked the 5K and Half with DW then the Full by myself. Finished my first Full in 4:56:+ to complete the Goofy. I passed many joggers and runners who started before me. My PR for a half marathon is 2:12:+, again walking. I am currently training for my first triathlon in July right after my 62nd birthday during which I will try to incorporate some jogging and running.

While I can understand your dismay with having to walk, there is so much less harmful impact to the body your chances for injury are lessened. One other thing is that being able to WALK a 5K in 28:10.9, my PR, is pretty cool. :cool1:

Good luck and I'll be at WDW in Jan. for my 3rd Goofy.

Your walking pace is faster than my jog!! How do u walk so fast? :confused3

If you walk, do you by pass bag check? I always take a ton of stuff with me, so I will need to do bag check.

You never hit bag check... You simply walk out of the resort (through a cast member entrance) and to the corrals. One could walk back upstream to the bag check area, but that is a good /6 miles each way, not to mention that you are swimming upstream through the crowds if you do not walk up to bag check before folks are released to the corrals. In the last couple years, that walk has been painfully crowded.

I guess its a question of what is needed in your bag versus what is wanted. I am in your same boat for the half.. I check my recovery drink and meal for the half. I consider that a need and am not easily willing to let it go. My spectators are traditionally a little lax on Saturdays, so I am not sure I can count on them. I will not make a decision more than likely until Friday and Saturdays nights...Or more than likely, race mornings.

The price for the marathon goes up by $20 after June 20th - I need to pull the trigger soon!
Also - for those of you who are DVC members - we get a discount this year but you have to register by 6/19. Info is on the DVC website.
Just saw the marathon is over 50% full - is this earlier than usual?

As Charles said, you can't do bag check if you walk from OKW. I never do bag check so it's not an issue for me. If you need it, then definitely take the bus.

DP decided he wanted to do the marathon in 2013. He likes the hub-bub because of the 20th anniversary.
I'm toying with Dopey. (It's only 13.1 more miles than last year....;))
We've been doing 4-6 miles every other day for a bit now.
Just have to get enough ducks in a row to plop down the cash for registration.

Well folks, looks like I might actually be Dopey this year. My BFF who is joining me for just the WDW vacation portion is currently training for a Dualathon (run, bike, run) and says she's thinking of doing the 5K on Friday at WDW! Well, I can't very well have her run alone now, can I? ;) So we're still thinking about it, but pretty sure we'll be signing up for it. Although, she hasn't told her husband yet that she's even going with me!! :rotfl:

You already have your room booked including Thursday night, right? If I were you, I'd have a hard time NOT doing Dopey! Because I have to admit, the thought has crossed my mind... If there was a Dopey medal I'd be doing it for sure. :)

Yep, I'll be there Thursday night so getting up on Friday morning won't be an issue. I take that back - three days in a row getting up early may be a rather big issue!!! :rotfl: I wish there was a medal too. Disney has to be aware of it, right? Oh well.

Thanks Coach! I'll just take the bus. I usually pack food for after the race in my bag too. I like to change my shoes right after I run, so I usually throw in flip flops or my crocs.

Just waiting for airline prices to go down so I can book a flight. Last year I paid $200 and this year so far it's $345.

I am finding airline prices kinda high, too ... I am at a Delta hub so they usually come up with some very good nonstop prices, but nothing yet.

WOW, you are a fast walker! Impressive! Good luck to you on Goofy #3!

Just saw the marathon is over 50% full - is this earlier than usual?

I wonder this too ...

Yes and No.

Yes, it is earlier than the last 2-3 marathons. However, with the exception of these years, the marathon has generally filled in the late September/Late October range.

Though, it is unusual for the full to fill faster than the half.

I bought the Minnie Sparkle Skirt for the full. I haven't decided how extensive I'll go from there.

I was thinking the Minnie Sparkle skirt too with a black shirt. I would love to do the sparkley Minnie head band but I don't think it will stay on my head well and would just annoy me the whole time I'm running.
