I was wondering where all you guys are staying for the marathon? I am most definitely not a runner and will not be participating, but AOA is all booked up for Saturday the 13th in the Little Mermaid rooms. I was just wondering if it was all all you runners staying there? *scowls* Hehe just kidding. It is available Friday and Sunday just not Saturday.

Good luck guys :goodvibes

Yep, I'll be in a Little Mermaid Wednesday to Monday!

I'm running in Brooks Glycerin 9. I'm using the pads, but not noticing much help. I'm going to go back to the running store and see if they have better pads or see if they can tell if I have them placed right

Jennifer

Sounds like a good idea. It is hard to say what works for this. Some people benefit from a firmer shoe, while others do better with a soft shoe. More or less cushion could help. Seems like everyone is different. The Glycerin is supposed to be well cushioned, and on the soft side.

Hope you can find someone knowledgeable at the running store to help.

I not sure I want to commit, but I will be going remote (very little computer access and it can't be waited checking runDisney) for the next month and I won't know how fast it is filling up.
Any guesses when the marathon will fill up?

We're at POFQ but I'm waiting to see what the AP discounts look like.

In reviewing my confirmation for the upcoming races, I've noticed that there's no ticket code for marathon weekend. Does this mean there's no discount? Or is it released later or elsewhere?

Thanks for any opining!

I don't think they're doing discounts for tickets but someone did mention that Disney might come out with something before the race. Emphasis on might.

Do you get the Mousesaver newsletter? Every month they post the percentages. I think you might be able to tell how quickly the race is filling from the newsletter. I'll dig mine out of my email trash and check.

--------------------------7:46 AM Ots not on the Mousesavers newsletter, it's on the Mouseplanet website. It's under the WDW Resort Update tab.

Coming out of left field with this reply----DW was having similar problems and as APrunner noted it was meta.... She tried a pad and it did not work. Went back to running store, a more knowledgeable employee helped her and suggested a second pad with a difference in size and location resulting in issue being solved.

Good luck.

BINGO!

This is NOT PF by any sense of the imagination. I would suggest the placement of a pad in the area of the offending pain. (in real simple terms the pad is a small soft Bump that helps align the joint) You may need to play around with the placement. I suffered with this one season and the pad worked wonders... so did changing shoe brands after the A race.

:rotfl2: Sorry the first phrase floored me...

The next update should be this Monday/Tuesday online. I am not sure how much of a bump the flash sale had. I would expect a bump as time approaches September 25, the next price increase. The unfortunate thing here is that entry rates can be very volatile. The last 10-15% can happen in a week, month or never. With it being the 20th, it is likely to fill rather quickly once it hits 90%.

I would say that if you want to enter, do it before losing internet to be assured of your spot. I would hate for it to fill the day before you say I want to run.

Saying all this, I expect the race to fill in October but one really cannot be too sure.

Ok, checked the website and it seems like sign-up goes up 1-2% per week. By the time you come back I would assume (we all know what assuming does) that the race would be at maaaaayyyyyybe 96%. Then again, who knows if Disney will offer discounted tickets and that might be the push for people to commit.

Just finished 9 miles today. Actually felt pretty good. Its just this pain in my foot that is killing me during the run. Usually comes on around the 4 mile mark. Starts in the ball of my foot and goes to my toes where they meet the foot. If I curl my toes and run its tolerable, but would really like to figure out how to correct it. Any thoughts?

Jennifer

Jennifer,

Please stop running for a while and perhaps see a sports med guy. I am sitting here with a stress fracture in 1-2 metatarsals in my right foot which I really didn't think was anything. I ran through what I thought was just some minor foot pain--honestly, it seemed to be mostly okay, but now I find out nuh-uh!

Running through pain is never a good idea. I hope its minor and you are back to training soon, but please get it checked out.

Maura

Keep in mind that the Disneyland Half is this weekend, too. So there might be a little registration spike from the runDisney booth doing expo signups.

Not a good analogy. DL is a MUCH smaller race than any WDW race, and run by many locals as opposed to vacationers.

Well, maybe not "much" smaller. DL had 13,000 finishers. WDW full had 13,500 finishers and the Princess Half had 15,000 finishers.

thanks for some things to think about.

Haha on my opening comment...didn't think about it until coach's comment. should have thought that through, it was funny in hindsight.

I could just sign up my son, he really wants to do it, and take my chances, as after this year's marathon, my first, I really thought that would be enough for me.

DL has 17,000 runners this year but it's a lot of locals. I think they said 11,000 or 13,000 this year so Reep is correct it's not that much smaller but the locals make a bigger impact than at WDW.

Wow. 4000 more than last year? Why does Disney up the runners?

$$$.

It may not be the cash cow the races are WDW given WDW is more a destination, but an increased field means more money with registration, merchandise purchases, park tickets, etc. I have to say I'm starting to get turned off by the increase in numbers, but I do know someday I really want to do DL.

Not really. The 17k this year is how many registered. The 13k is how many finished in 2011. Because it sells out early many register that don't run it. Also, some get swept or injured and can't finish. I'm not sure how many registered in 2011 and before.

The number of finishers from the last five years (starting from 2011): 12802, 12372, 11651, 10849, 9764. So, we might expect an extra 500 or so if the trending is similar. They fill up quickly and have lots of people who want to get in. Accordingly the should fit in as many as is safe given the course and resources.
