Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

RE: SparkleSkirts...LOVE them! They are pricey but totally worth it, in my opinion.

I have an original plain black skirt that I'm wearing for the full. I ordered the Damascus SlimCut but didn't think it looked too flattering on my (so sad, it's SUCH a pretty skirt). So I sent that back and ordered the DoloTech instead, which I love. Really fun skirt.

If you look on the SparkleSkirt Facebook page she's coming out with lots of fun stuff for the Princess. I never order the really sparkly skirts though because they need hand washing, and I'm way too lazy for that. :upsidedow

Thank you all for the prayers for my mom. Unfortunately we lost her over the weekend. I'm still planning to run the Goofy and expect she'll somehow be there with me.
I managed 6 miles yesterday. I stayed on the treadmill because of snow and ice. I did run 15 sec/walk 45 sec intervals without foot pain.

Amanda

My condolences to you and your family. It's hard losing a parent and I'm sure she'll definitely be cheering you on. Maybe you'll see a sign somewhere along the course letting you know she's there.

Amanda- so sorry to hear about your mom. She will be your guardian angel at Goofy, and you will make her proud no doubt.

I lost my mom 9 years ago, before I started running. But when I run (since I don't listen to music or anything) I "talk" to her sometimes (I know, weird). But I will tell you there have been times when I have been struggling and suddenly it feels like someone has their hand on my back pushing me. And I know its her. Helping me along, as she always did.

Never crazy. I sit and have conversations with my Dad all the time.

I am dressing as a middle age runner looking to finish

Oh man we're dressing alike! I might have to change my costume so people don't think we did it intentionally.:lmao:

Thanks for all the help in the last months Coach! It's so appreciated!

Jeanne

Awe man, you took my idea! :)

Amanda - So sorry for your loss.

GAH! You stole my costume idea. You are always one step ahead of me Coach...

'K - I got my revised costume - I'm going to go as a middle age runner hoping to finish from CANADA. :thumbsup2

You guys are too funny!!

That a such a cute skirt! I had been wanting here peacock island skirt since she released it and tried to think up.a costume with it but the only thing I could think of was Ariel and in the end I decided to go for comfort with a few touches of fun. So I will be wearing the sparkle skirt and I got a customized teal shirt to match. I am on sabbatical in the spring so my shirt says "starting my sabbatical on the right foot". Classes start the day after the marathon but I won't have to be there. Woo hoo! I have a sparkle headland and a tiara bondiband so I'll wear one of those unless something catches my eye at the expo ( I know, no new things but if it's the same type of headband I already have it should be ok). Or I may do someone's suggestion of a Minnie headband over a bondiband. I have Minnie clip on ears I attached to my headband before and that seemed to work. I was just hoping for ears that match the teal colors Ill be wearing.

After I got my shirt and skirt I realized that I was wearing similar touches to my first half marathon and Disney race: I had on a type of aqua /teal shirt and a peacock feather. Maybe the.combo is my good luck charm :)

I loved your costume from the Princess. You looked awesome!

Here's one from my last costume.

Hawt!!! The wig doesn't bother you while running?

Couple questions....anyone run in a tutu? My mom watched the race videos and asked if I was going to run in a tutu---there were quite a few in the vid. I have enough tulle and ribbon to make one, but the whole "nothing new on race day" gives me pause. Thoughts?

I have run in a tutu 3x and I've never had an issue. Just buy soft tulle and don't make it too "floofy". I noticed at the beginning of the Princess, there were a lot of women with tutus on. Big, floofy, gorgeous tutus. I also noticed quite a few of them on the side of the road during the course of the race. Make sure it's not too heavy, jump up and down in it and make sure it stays where it should.

Oh and on the subject of Garmin failure, does anyone else ever have a problem getting it to charge? And then keep having the screen go blank? Mine chose this weekend to fail me.

You don't mention which model it is... I had to do a reset for my 405CX once, and I did it by the following method for the 410, 405 & 405CX:

Press and hold Start/Stop and Lap/Reset simultaneously
Press both buttons until screen goes blank (my screen was already blank, but it did go black for a second and clear)
Release Start/Stop and continue to hold Lap/Reset
Release Lap/Reset when the Do you really want erase all user data? message appears
Select Enter (Start/Stop) to clear user data

The other tip I've seen on forums is to try and charge it with the wall charger sometimes, instead of always charging it by computer USB outlet. Since the blank screen incident, I've pretty much only charged it by the wall charger.

It gets a bit warm by the end of the race. The sweaty strands sticking to my face explain why women always opt for ponytails. :)

I'm running in a Sparkle Tech pink Minnie skirt. Nothing too exciting, but fun and in the spirit of things while still practical.

I am trying to convince DH that I need the minnie skirt for the full, but it's not working so far....I will keep trying! Question: Does it have a drawstring at the waist? If not, does it stay up well? I often have problems with tights/capris without ties falling down all the time!

Well, the last run of the year is done and for the first time ever, I kept an accurate training log of my swims, bikes and runs.

I didn't log too much indoor training (stretching, yoga, strength, spinning etc), but hope to do a better job with that next year.

Being a "come back" year for me after two shoulder surgeries and starting the year in a walking boot, I am pleased. In 2012, I swam 179,426 yards, rode 3335 miles and ran 812 miles.

Thats good enough for me to go from my house to Disney World.........more than 6 times.

Awesome statistics! I would say your 'come back' was successful! :)

I was THISCLOSE to ordering the one you have. Such a cute skirt.

Which Minnie Skirt? There are a couple. :)

No, they don't have drawstrings. If you measure correctly (there are instructions on the site) you should be okay with sizing. They can help you over email. The only time I've had problems with it not staying up was when I had my phone in the waist pocket. It got too heavy and I realized it just wasn't going to work, so now the phone stays in one of the leg pockets.

ETA: About the pockets...I find that because the pockets are so big I don't even need a fuel belt. That's a huge bonus.

Amanda, I am so sorry for your loss. Good thoughts and many hugs to you and your family.

I've done that twice. Since it's worn over your normal running shorts, it shouldn't be a problem with chafing or any of the other concerns with new gear. Plus, tulle is stiff & scratchy and gives you a nice buffer in the corrals.

My thoughts are training in a tutu is probably a worse idea than racing in a tutu that you haven't trained in.

Just make sure whatever you wear under the tut can be worn by itself so you can take the tutu off if it becomes a problem.

Thanks! Adding a tutu to my crafty pre-trip list! :) This is gonna be fun!

I was telling the pastor's wife yesterday that two weeks from the day I'd hopefully be wearing my Donald medal! :)

Okay, it's fun video time again.

Some of you may have seen a few pages back a video I made for my wife after she did her first marathon in Disney a couple of years ago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Mi8qNfs-9A).

Here is a link to another video someone in our group made after the race that year. We had a group of about 33 or so who made the trip and most of us made a week out of it.

Enjoy - more to come later:

Amanda, I am so sorry for your loss. You're in my prayers.

I spoke WAY too soon on the foot injuries. Went to the podiatrist today for a follow up for tendonitis in my left foot and now I have identical tendonitis in my right foot, in addition to pain by my toes. And, because I'm so lucky, the tendonitis pain in my left foot is returning.

I have metatarsal bands for both feet, running insoles...he says I'll be good to go come race day. I just want to get this over with!!

To top it all off tomorrow, I'm a mummer (if anyone knows what that is) and I've been learning saxophone all year and memorizing our routine to have this happen the day before the parade. I should have known better and wish I hadn't run at all yesterday. :( I can barely walk today!

My apologies if this question has already been answered but will there be a place to donate our running shoes after the races? I'm bringing two pair, one for each race, and I will be done with them once I cross the finish lines.

Hi all:)

Amanda--so very sorry for your loss--I hope you can find comfort in know ing how proud your mom will be as you run to the finish line.

Sorry to those going through injuries.

My 9 miler was RUFF yesterday. Never got into a groove, plodding the whole time, and very sore. My feet, ankles, and legs are done.

I've been using Clif Shot Bloks to run but I don't know if these are really doing it for me. Anyone ever use these and switch to something new?

I'm off to the shoe store to see about some new rides. Mine are still useable but I need to start the replacement process. May or may not wear them for the half--I'll see how shorter runs go in them first and I have a 10 miler left for this weekend, too.

I have a 405, and it always does a little "freak out" right before a race. It dropped from holding charge for 5 hours of running, to only an hour and a half. Here's what I do.

1) Charge the watch completely.
2) Start the watch in Training mode and let it run until it dies (I just set it on my desk)
3) Fully charge the watch again.
4) Perform the reset described above
5) Start the watch in Training mode and let it run until it dies
6) Charge overnight
7) Start the watch in Training mode and let it run until it dies

I would see that the watch died around 1-2 hours in step 2, but by step 7 it was back up to 5-6 hours of run time. The software in the watch tracks battery charge, and it seems to glitch on me about once every 6 months.

So sorry. I agree, she will be smiling down on you at the finish.

On the slim cut you should order a size large, looks way better that way. I love the skirts too. I'm wearing the 'half crazy' one.
