Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

I'm worried its going to get in the way of mine. We have gotten 15 inches of snow so far today with wind gusts tonight up to 50 mph. I am supposed to do 20 on Saturday, the snow will have stopped but it is supposed to be 20 degrees. This run doesn't sound fun at all but my main worry is falling, the last thing I need to do is break a leg after all this training!

I'm worried about ice on my route too. I just looked at the hour by hour and I see the temps will be in the 20s here too with windchills in the teens. That is going to be a long 4 hours of running. It started to snow this afternoon and we're supposed to get more tonight. No where near as much as you though. Just 2-4 inches. But the wind if fierce...gusts up to 60mph. I can always go on Sunday or Monday if need be.

I am staying at OKW this marathon. SO What! you may ask. The last two stinking hot marathon weekends were the last two times I stayed OKW. The 2007 marathon weekend was by far the worst weekend for a marathon in my career at Disney. The starting temps were in the mis 60's and the highs near 80. Great weather for spectators and to cruise the parks, but really sucky for running 39 miles. I have a photo in the staging area where my skin was glistening from the temp and humidity. The other year was 2005. The weather was not quite as warm at the start but the high temperatures were quite warm.

So, if folks want a cooler start, I am open to a trade to a grand villa at BLT. My one and inly stay there was the freezer year of 2010.

Change. Your. Hotel. Now! LOL

Thank you for the feedback! I definitely wouldn't change it up this close to the 2013 race, but I'm aiming for 2014. I've never felt like these shoes were too tight or too loose, but I wonder if they are. Maybe I'll have to visit a running shoe store. I checked out the Injinji socks. They seem to be designed to reduce friction, but I'm afraid that they might slide my toes toward the front of the shoe. I don't have issues between my toes so much as between the tips of my toes and the shoe. On second thought, I wonder if any of the issues would be resolved with a sock that slid. Taping my foot is an interesting idea. I might try that. I will also try thinner socks. Thank you again for the information! These are all wonderful ideas.

Am I the only one who is happy with the forecast as it is? I'm a Gulf Coast girl, 60's and 40's are COLD and I definitely don't want 2010 temps! LOL

I had that problem--black toenails and the tips of my toes were in bad shape. I went up 1/2 a size and haven't had the problem since.

Where did you stay in 2011 and 2012? The weather for both of those marathons was lovely...

Getting over 2.5 weeks of sneezing, coughing, runny nose, aches and pains, plus I fell over on my bike Saturday injuring left hip and wrist but I went out today for a 10 miler.

Temperature---81 degrees
Humidity------80%
Winds were gusting to 15mph

Stay where-ever you want coach, I'm ready. If it's hot, I'll have the air on in the motorhome with iced tea in the fridge and if it's cold, the heat will be on with hot chocolate keeping warm on the stove.

I'm in corral D and don't care where I start so I'll leave the motorhome at 5:15, walk over to the corrals, blend in and go with the flow even if I start with the Balloon Ladies like I did for this year's Goofy.

I think I'll be the only one that will NOT want you to change. I don't mind the warmth and would MUCH rather run in warmer weather than colder weather. I am a cold person wuss. This coming from a Michigander where we can have 8 months of winter ;)

So I'm sure I'll be the only one that will be excited :cheer2:

It's been two weeks since I last ran and the resting is terrible! I just want my knee and foot to feel better so I can get back out there!

BWV and BCV.... Not enough DVC points to house everyone there this year. Actually had THE closest DVC room to a park gate at WDW at the BCV. Villa 124 is just a hop and skip from IGate.

Guess I should also ad that I was at the BWV for 06, 08 and 09 marathons. Other marathons where the temps were normal (49F) +/- 5F

My DH wants to come to the start with me to see me off for the HM. What are his options from there? We are staying at CSR so we will be using the shuttle service. No car this trip.

I'm with you. That's a good forecast. I don't like the cold. I'd rather be a little warm than chilly. I hate the feeling of being sweaty and cold.

I'm loving the forecast!! Mid-Alabama girl here, and this is perfect for me!! I do horribly in cold weather!

I'm tired of training in the heat & humidity of Qatar. I want temps in the low 40s to start and in the mid 50s at the finish.

He can ride the bus with you. One at the Epcot parking lot, follow the crowd to the staging area. Once you decide it's time to head to the corral, you pass through a baggage check tent where you enter a runners only area (i.e. he cannot go to the corral with you). Prior to heading to the corrals, the staging area is also the post race family reunion area. Pick out a spot away from the baggage tents to meet post race. The area can be crowded and confusing.

After seeing you off, he can walk to the monorail to see you up north. He has two real options. He can either head to the Magic Kingdom and see you on Main (no admission for the Main Street area in the park during the race). Or he can set up and catch you at the Ticket and Transportation Center. Once you pass there, he can walk to the Poly Resort and watch you pass there. After you pass the Poly or Main, he would return to Epcot to catch the finish. Note that there are several bleachers set up. Only a couple are open to non-Chear package holders. My spectators usually hang out between the park exit and the bleachers rather than try to find a seat.

Hope this helps

We'll also be staying at OKW and still debating just walking to the start. We won't need bag check and could use the nice warm up walk over.

Hi Ducks!

I too am loving our High of 54*F today in N.FLA!! Same for tomorrow.
Former Torontonian, luv the cold.

I didn't mind the 50*F start and 70*F finish temp it was refreshing last year. :)

At POR for marathon weekend, walking over for half on Sat.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: So it was YOU!

Since it is your fault if it is too hot then will you carry me?

I managed a 12 mile walk this morning in just under 3 hours. No foot pain!!! I'm taking a day off (instead of doing my back to backs) and then doing another long walk on Sunday. Thinking I'll be ready for Goofy!!!

So I just went to check the weather for this year's Princess because I remember being comfortable and I was surprised to see it was a high of 71 and low of 55. So I am taking back my wish for 40s/50s. I just looked again and see the high is not up to 77 with a chance of t-storms. How can they even predict a t storm this far in advance? I will now obsess over t storms on race day.
