Official Top Chef Las Vegas thread *Premieres 8/19*

You know, I can't tell if Padma actually knows French or if she was reading off a prompter.

Anyway, though, it seems that all the Chefs except Joel Robichon speaks English - and wasn't he funny when he said, "I don't speak English"!

I love Kevin!!

I think Kevin, the two brothers and Jen will be the final four.

That would be complete justice... so it probably won't happen. Someone will screw up something and they'll be packing their knives.

I was so happy to see Jessie go! She's been in the bottom so many times it was only natural that she'd be going soon. That fried tomato and escargot sandwich looked awful.

Hector needed to go, too. I'm really starting to like the Haitian man. He is very funny.

I think Ashley will be the next to go.

Who is the guy who cooked with one of the brothers??? I think it was Bryan. The guy always shooting his mouth off. I'm not really liking him too much. I think he tries to ride the brother's coat tails. The deconstructed sauce was the Bryan V's idea (I'm sorry I'm blanking on everyone's name this morning) he was giving detailed instruction. But at the judge's table loud mouth acted like he was the force behind the sauce. Bryan didn't say anything but you saw him shoot him a surprised look. The same thing happened the week before.

Was anyone picking up on a little love connection?? I think Jen has the hots for Michael V.

Very glad that Kevin got the opportunity to eat with all those culinary legends. He was a class act. Very respectful and tried to be positive about his rival's dishes. He also was smart in the way he handled their questions about what the judge's said.

Was it the other Mike/Michael? Yes, it had to be - the two Michaels didn't cook together.

As for a love connection? I hope not - I'm pretty sure both the "V" brothers are married. And you're right - Ashley can't leave soon enough for me!

On the other hand, I loved Ash in the quickfire last (potato) week - serving his failed attempt at sweet potato ice cream and ending up in the top three with his chilled sweet potato custard :rotfl2:. He's fun; I hope he stays for a while.

I'm still trying to learn everyone's names. I do like Kevin and the Haitian guy. The brother's seem like the ones to beat. We'll see how it plays out.

Haitian guy = Ron
Two guys that resemble each other (tall, slender, light brown hair, attractive, 30s) are Bryan & Mike V - but I don't know which is which yet, either).
Other guy with accent is Mattin.
Obnoxious guy with dark hair is 'the other' Mike.
Burly guy with bushy beard is Kevin.
Other hefty guy, with glasses, is Eli.
Tall blonde guy with goatee is Ash.
Blonde woman speaking in monotone is Jen.
Tall, slender woman with very short brown hair is Ashley.
That's ten. So far, Hector, Jesse, Preti, blonde woman, one other (blank) have packed their knives and gone.
I'm figuring the two women I haven't named - because I don't know who they are - will be gone relatively soon, since they've rarely/never been at the top or bottom of any challenge.

disclaimer: this was all done from memory, not fact - poster accepts responsibility for errors but will not change them, but will appreciate corrections :teeth:

Good Memory. Kevin I think is my fav. Seems like a humble really nice guy.

I can tell the brothers apart, Mike has a flesh colored beard and Brian looks very young. They both talk very mechanically and don't smile a lot.

And you missed Robin and Laurine. Laurine is very forgettable but Robin is not quite so forgettable but NOT in a good way!:lmao:

I think she actually speaks French, honestly.

I know that it's obvious that one of the twins will win, but please Jennifer, please overcome the pre-selects. Jennifer FTW! Twins FTL.

Think about the advantage Kevin got listening to the comments as they ate.

I wonder how much French each of the them understood? It looked edited to me but maybe it wasn't? It did appear as if many people at the table understood French.

It was a huge advantage for him to actually get to sit in through the entire meal. If they just watch the prior episodes like we all do they only see the edited comments. But to sit through it all I'm sure it gives him an advantage to know what they look for, at least a little.

For him to have dinner with those chefs is just amazing for anyone!

Kevin is my favorite this season. The brother who doesn't move his mouth when he talks annoys me when they show him up close. I'm not a fan of the brothers, Michael or Jen.

Did anyone watch last night? I thought Eli's comment about Robin winning the quick fire was bad.

Thank goodness Ron is gone. Now if we can just dump Laurine I feel like the real show can begin.

My pick for the final four: Kevin, Jen, Mike V and either Bryan or Ashely.

I DO like Mikey (the one who looks like Seinfeld). He's funny. I think it's a good cast now, but no discernible villain. Can't wait for the week we finally get restaurant wars. With all those BIG personalities, should be a hot mess!

I was actually behind 2 epi's so last night DH & I watched the COWBOY epi with Mattin going home and then last night's epi with Ron going home.

Yes, I am confused why they all seemed to turn on Robin. They all thought she should have gone home in the COWBOY epi and then starting last night's show all wearing a red scarf in his honor... I do think Robin is on VERY THIN ICE!! ::yes::

AND I must have missed the comments...what did Eli actually say after the quickfire...I was doing the dishes and looked up and saw Robin had won and she felt so good about that as she needed that so bad.

I can't remember his exact words, but he made a comment about her mentioning that she had cancer was why she won the quickfire.

I agree...totally uncalled for.

However, if they ever have a quickfire involving sour grapes, he's a shoo-in to win.

And thanks to last night's episode, I'm craving pot roast and lasagna in the worst way!

That's funny. I almost made lasagna tonight because of last night's episode.

Maybe over the weekend...

Glad Ron is gone, though I liked his personality. He wasn't going to win. Neither will Robin, Laurine or Ashley. Eli is doubtful, too.

Yep, I agree with that. I am very impressed with Jen! Personally, not so much...but WOW that girl can cook. I hope she wins.

I loved Penn and Teller's role this week; they brought some spunk to the show.

I can't believe how addicted I am to Top Chef. I appreciate how the show focuses on the challenges and food, as opposed to the drama and relationship struggles behind the scenes. I know they show a little of it, but it's very little, IMO, especially compared to other "reality" shows.

I thought she should have gone home in the cowboy episode too...she served bad food...not bad tasting...but food that was "bad" To me that is worse than under or over cooking something.

His comments were uncalled for, I am not a fan of her but she didn't deserve his snarky comment.

I totally agree with you, both about Jenn and the show itself. I love project runway as well, but i think it has gotten a little bit away from the fashion and more about personalities than it used to be..i still enjoy it though, and these 2 are both super tame compared to the other " reality" shows out there.

My 8 yr old DS and I are rooting for Kevin. My 2nd choice would be Brian. I like him better than his brother. Do you ever see his face when he loses its like he is pissed and the other person didn't deserve it. I also thought it was a little crappy that they all wore red scarves. A slap in the face to Robin. Anyone can go at anytime so to get after another contestant I think is silly. Also as a competitor wouldn't you rather a tougher opponent go??
