Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Did my 11 miles today.. Absolutely had to, 60 degrees in Ohio in January?? I saw a bright yellow dandelion and an orange butterfly right next to the pond with a thin covering of ice! But I will take 60 degrees whenever I can get it in January.

Awesome Queen Mimi! So proud of you! You did it!

I'm jealous!

Hey, anyone know what the shipping charge is the GET Travel charges if you want to get your park tickets shipped instead of picking them up at the expo?

Nice job! :thumbsup2 How fun to be outside in January at home? :sunny:

I have a brain cell or two left after my 15 mile run on the track yesterday -- I'm so glad that is behind me. :rotfl:

I don't know the answer about the park tickets but I did want to say :welcome: and I'm looking forward to meeting a fellow denizen of the NW soon! :cool2:

Good luck to everyone doing their long runs this week-end! Our race is only 3 weeks away!

It's $22. I had switched mine over to have it mailed since we are arriving Thurs and I got a park ticket for that day but now I am going to just cut that day off my ticket and pick it up at the expo. That eats up half my ticket savings so this way I save on the ticket and don't have to pay the shipping.

!

:worship: I am in awe of you. I don't use the track at all more less for 15 miles!!

I just got done with a 9 mile run. Next weekend it's 11 and then the next 12. Then I get to taper!!!

See you all at the race! :cool1:

Congratulations to all our Tinker Bell Runners who ran at WDW this week-end! :cool1: Can't wait to hear all about it! :tink:

Hello All,
I just found this board yesterday and I am so happy I did! A few things about me:
-I'm a mom of 4, husband just left on a 9 month deployment
-Running my first Disney race (Tinker Bell)
-This will be my first trip to Disney Land

I will be making this trip alone and I'm kind of nervous about keeping up with the pace, my training has not been what it needed to be for the past month or so because of preparing for the deployment. I've read through this thread and noticed that there was a facebook page- can someone send me the link for that? I would love to meet up with some people for this race! Great advice here!

Hi Cara!! I'm coming out alone as well, and haven't been training much, so you're not alone. :) I plan to make the WISH meet-up that's been mentioned here. Here's the FB link to the event: http://www.facebook.com/events/293880423982393/

If there's a group on FB, I'm not aware of it, but I'd love to be. :)

As an added 'bonus', I'm in the military (active duty) so I can totally relate to the deployment thing. :)

Hi Cara--Welcome !! Don't let your nerves get the best of you. You just need to keep a 16 min pace. There are still a couple weeks left before the race so just do your best. Check out the first message on this thread with all the helpful links regarding the race.
Disneyland is easy to get around since the resort is small with the parks and hotels close by. Try and make the meet on Satuday. With 4 kids I can't imagine trying to find the time to train. I have a hard enough time trying to find running time with just 1 kiddo.

Welcome Cara! Well done on signing up even with all you "life busy-ness"! I hope you have a great time. I love DLR and don't think you'll have any trouble being alone. Where are you staying? Also, check out the meet up info. There is a WISH meetup and a DIS meetup too. Times and info are found here and on this thread's Page 7. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2710454&page=7

Good morning Tinker Bells! :tink:

I had a great time following all the WISHers at the WDW races this week-end. I know some of our Tinker Bells were there so please share your race experience with us when you are ready. :cool2:

You may want to check out the Disboards blogs about the WDW races to give you an idea of what to expect at the Tink.

It's exciting (and a little bit :scared1:) to watch our tickers all count down.

I'm also a Washingtonian - from Auburn.

There are several of us from the Northwest who will be there. Looking forward to seeing you soon! :goodvibes

Just wondering how many of you ordered the one of these? I just pre-ordered mine (fingers crossed) that it will be sent to me with the right time after the race!:wizard:

I haven't ordered them but thanks for posting the link. Every time I tried to use the link I got stuff for the Princess. princess:

:welcome: Cara! I see that someone already gave you the link for the FB group. There is the main WISH group as well as an event for our WISH meet.

Here is a link to the info about the other Disboards meets that will be taking place to raise money for GKTW http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=43664303&postcount=1

Do you know if they raise the prices after the race? And if so by how much?

I don't know, Jessica. Just sayin' hi! :wave2:

Who's been to Trader Sam's? Any recommendations for some great after-race drink we can look forward to? :cool2:

And if you have any tips for getting through this time as get closer to the race for those of us who are feeling a bit  please share! :flower3:

Thank you all! I'm very excited about this trip, I've never really traveled alone and I'm looking forward to being to do exactly what I want, when I want! I'm staying at the Holiday Inn on Walnut. I'm anxious to see what Disneyland is like. I've been to Disneyworld several times, so it's nice to have a change!

We went over to Trader Sam's during the DL half weekend and it was a really fun place. It's VERY small so you may end up waiting a while for any kind of seat. I know I had a very yummy drink, but can't remember now which one it was...they have lots to try and I plan to try more this time. I highly recommend the crispy green beans as an appetizer or snack...they were really YUMMY!

Bib #10575 here. I don't know if that's good or bad -- all I know is I'm going to run, Run, RUN away from that Balloon Lady. hehehe

I'm so excited yet feel so under-prepared at the same time. I tore some cartilage in my knee back in November. I can run 5-6miles ok, but haven't really been able to try a higher mileage run yet. I'm afraid if I do a longer run, I might injure myself more and will be unable to complete the Tink.

Even with my bum knee I'm still pacing at 13 - 14:30/mi, so even if I end up walking the last 7 miles, I think I'll be fine.

My Dr. has ok'd me to do the race - we'll probably do a cortisone shot a week before the race for some extra relief.

Then I'll have surgery in February, with enough time to get back to running and earn my Coast to Coast in Florida.

Hope everyone is having fun with the training and preparing :)

Hi everyone! I'm signed up for the 1/2 and the 5K, but will only be doing the 5K

I signed up months ago, just shortly after completing my 3rd 1/2 marathon in Indianapolis with a PR by 17 minutes!

I ended up getting pregnant in June and put off training due to exhaustion, then miscarried in August at 11 weeks. I got pregnant again in November and lost the baby very early. Since then, running has been put on the backburner.

Now that the race is almost here, I'm disappointed that I put my running on hold. I'm positive I can do the 5K with a jog/walk strategy...and just enjoy the atmosphere!

I will be a spectator for the Tinker Bell 1/2...and I'm excited about that! This is also my mother and I's first trip to Disneyland! After TONS of trips to Disneyworld, we're really excited to finally visit the Land!

I'm starting to get a little nervous for this race now  I feel like my training has suffered this year, especially through the holidays (mostly derailed by sweets!!!) and my last 2 long runs have not been very good...at all! Then, unfortunately, my grandmother passed on friday so I'll be travelling and out of town for the next few days for her services. I think the hotel I'm at has a fitness center so I'm really hoping I can make it down to the treadmill and stay on schedule, but I'm also worried about the next few days of eating out for every meal. I like to really watch my eating once I get into tapering since I won't be working off as many calories and will be making a more conscious effort to rest and be off my feet. On top of all that, I've been battling a nagging back ache...I don't know if I pulled something or what, but it's really been giving me a hard time the last few days...and the 10 miles on saturday just made it worse. At one time, I thought I was really going to try for a PR at this race, but it's just not gonna happen. Maybe I should bring a camera along with me this time and just take pics and have fun. I hate adding to my load though...I already feel like a pack mule sometimes with the water belt bottle on the back, gels in one pouch on one side and ipod in the other pouch on the other side.
