Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Hi All,

Seems like I am jumping into this thread a little late. I am running the Tinkerbell Half and it will be my 3rd half marathon. Looks like I am going to be making the trip to Disneyland alone as my running buddy has to have her gallbladder removed. I am trying to stay upbeat about it but have to admit that I am not sure what to expect being by myself.

My training is going well and I'm glad the holidays are almost over so I can refocus on my nutrition.

Glad to have found this group and hope to be able to catch up!

Cheers!
Stacie

I love your posts and pics, Cripey. I think I saw you at the DL 2011 Half, actually. I was wondering... what kind of trainer do you work out with?

Do any of you think any progress can be made in that time?:confused3

Well, thanks! If you see me again at the Tinkerbell, be sure to say hello! The trainer I work out with is also my BF's trainer and a friend. He met her years ago through some other friends of his and when he decided he wanted to start working out and then start running, he got in touch with her. The whole sports training or whatever you call it is what she got her degree in although it's something she only does on the side now...she's not with a gym, she doesn't even advertise or anything like that...new people join sometimes just by word of mouth, but she doesn't let the class get too big. She leads us in a "bootcamp" class twice a week in the evenings for about 10 of us. She has also always been a runner herself and when any of us decide we want to give that a shot, she helps us out individually by just really telling us how to get started, nutrition and fuel "consulting", lots of encouragement and then training schedules when the time comes. We've all become really good friends and now 4 of us have completed half marathons under her training...and my BF is about to complete his second full marathon with her training. It's a really great situation....she doesn't charge us alot at all and I've made some great friends.

I'm certainly no expert, but as far as your situation goes for Tink...I think if you really buckle down the next few weeks before the race you would be ok. Maybe just take it a little easier on race day if you don't get too many long runs in by then...you know, don't really have a time goal going in and just go slow and have fun! I'd say try to get in at least 3 runs per week starting now, but make sure you're resting on the days in between so your muscles can have time to heal after being thrwon back in this full force!

Hey everyone!

I am going to have some wristbands made for the Tinker Bell 1/2 marathon. I would like to get a count of everyone that would like one and that will attend the Wish meet on Saturday.

These are like the Livestrong wristbands. The front will say Wish Racing Team and the back will say EITHER Tinker Bell Inaugural OR Tinker Bell Half 2012 (suggestions are appreciated).

If you can post here or send me a PM so I can get a count, I would greatly appreciate it :)

Hey Dagny!

I have made as far as this post on my reading of the entire thread and wanted to see if you have ordered these yet or not. Pardon me if the question is answered later in the thread. If it is still possible to order I would like two of these bracelets, and I vote for the word INAUGURAL to be on them. Thanks and let me know!
Melinda :) :thumbsup2:cool1:

Thanks so much Summer! I appreciate the advice. It sounds like a plan! You have a really awesome situation with your trainer. Its great when you don't feel like they nickel and dime you to death. I've belonged to gyms like that in the past. I love the trainer I have now. She has a gym called Evolve, and does personal training and classes, and she is a very active triathlete herself. I am getting so excited for this race!!!!!!:yay:  :cool1:

Good morning Tinker Bells! :tink:

I've posted information about the WISH meet on Saturday, 1/28/12 at 4:00 pm on the first post of our thread. The meet is at 4:00 p.m. and pictures at 4:30 p.m. It is at the fountain in front of the entrance to the Grand Californian at DTD -- we will move to the overhang in case of inclement. There is also a link to the Event on Facebook. There is a WISH group on Facebook that you can join, if you haven't already. Hope to see you all there!

Remember that some of us will also be at the W reunion tent pre and post race.
:tinker:

I am looking forward to meeting you all! Thank you for posting the meet info! Where is the "Reunion tent" for the newbie? :goodvibes

Welcome Stacie
Try not to worry about making the trip by yourself. Disneyland resort (DL, DCA and DTD) is very easy to navigate and if your flying into Orange County airport--it's a easy airport to get around.
I am also glad the holidays are over----I need to stop eating the holiday treats and sweets.
I am also running in this race by myself -I'm usually running with my husband. But for Tinker Bell he's will be cheering me on from the side lines.

I would love a wristband too!

One month from today is my arrival day, when is everyone else arriving?

We are staying at the Holiday Inn on Walnut. Does anyone know how accessible this will be to the start area? We bought a package from Get Travel and this was one of the best rates.

Good morning Tinker Bells! :tink:

Melinda, I'm sure that you will find that you've kept more of your fitness than you thought when you get going again. :flower3:

Stacie, sorry to hear about your running buddy. I was at the Princess by myself and it was fun to be on my own schedule and when I wanted company there were plenty of WISHers to hang out with. :thumbsup2 I haven't been to DL by myself for a long time but I am looking forward to it! :smickey:

Actually calling them a "tent" is a bit generous. ;) If they are like the ones at the Princess, they are actually more a series of white shade covers with a bench and have letters on them like A-C D-F etc where families can meet up with their runners before and after the race. The "W tent" (which might really be the W-Z tent) is a convient place because there don't seem to be too many folks down at that end). There will be several of us wearing our green WISH shirts so we are easy to spot.

Vicki is right -- it is a lot easier to get around DLR than WDW because everything is so close together!

I would love a wristband too!

I'm arriving on Friday, too. :goodvibes Should be at the Expo early afternoon. :tink:

Here is a link to several maps on the Disneyland part of the boards. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=12116066&postcount=1
Looks like your hotel is just a street over from Disneyland Drive where we will be starting. Looks like an easy walk and a cut through DL Hotel maybe? I'm sure there will be other Tinker Bells staying there, too.

Have a great day Tinks! :tinker:

Thanks so much Lisa! I love the support and encouragement on this board!

AWESOME! I keep forgetting how close everything is in DL. This will by my 4th time there. I am getting so, so, super excited. I am getting my costume together. I'll post pics later today when I figure out how exactly to do that.

I am headed out on a run here shortly. I don't know how far I will go. This is one of my "short run" days, but if I accidentally turn it into my long run, thats fine by me. I know its better to have a set plan, but sometimes that has happend--set out for a 3 miler and go 7or 8. I just actually hope to get more than 3 miles in. I will let you know how it goes. I will be running straight from the ski hill when I drop my kids off to go skiing/snowboarding. Its 18 degrees right now, and the high today is going to be 28. Heeeere weee gooooooo! (I love that part of the Peter Pan ride :) Everyone have a fabulous day!

Good luck on your frosty run today, Melinda! :cheer2:

I drive by your ski hill every year on my way to Lake Okoboji, Iowa for vacation. I live in Idaho and people understandably wonder why we go to Iowa but my husband's family has a place that's been in the family since 1893. :goodvibes

Speaking of outfits here are a few pictures of mine.

Here are some pics of my outfit:

The sparkly WISH feather -- it's on the bottom left hand side of the skirt when you are wearing it.

The whole outfit:

A little better shot of the skirt:

It is a Sparkleskirt. Here is a link to the page. http://www.sparkleskirts.com/sparkletech/
It's the solid black SparkleTech skirt.

There is a large zippered pocket in the front that will hold my iPhone, Carmex and probably my Clif Bloks. There are also two large leg pockets. I figure one leg pocket can be for the paper towel supply and the other could be a couple of gels and/or a small pack of Biofreeze. That just leaves figuring out the water situation. Also, I don't know if I will do the Bondi-band or a visor. I kind of need the sun block of the visor but I also have to have two pairs of glasses, my sunglasses and my regular glasses. :3dglasses

I'm sure there will be lots of cute costumes to see as we run around. :tink:

Lisa, your outfit looks really cute! I'm really slacking on mine for this race! I think I may just skip the skirt altogether this time because I haven't put much thought into what color I would want. (but typing this post is making me sad about that decision so I'm betting I have one ordered by the end of the day :lmao:) I did buy a lime green running shirt from Target that I plan to add some sort of Tinkerbell-themed iron-on to. And while I was looking at the pics for your outfit, I was reminded that the WISH shirts are lime green too so I may have a little WISH logo made up to iron onto the sleeve or something so I can be identified as a WISH-er! I got a new pair of running shoes from Santa, so I'm going to add lime green laces to those to keep with the green theme I have going. I was going to have an iron-on made for a bondi band again too, but I just haven't had the time to put any thought to it...so I'm thinking I'll just buy the one they always have pre-made for the race at the expo and wear that one.

Also, today I ordered a pair of CEP brand compression calf sleeves. (in lime green!) I've been wanting to try compression sleeves on my calves for a while so I decided to go ahead and check them out. Does anyone have a pair of these in this brand that has any opinions about them?

You guys that are wearing skirts ------:worship: Wow !!! The mornings in CA have been SO COLD I can't even imagine wearing a skirt. (I always do for the DL 1/2 but we are usually running in hot weather)

I'm stressing about the cold mornings ---I can't get moving when it's that cold. I am still praying that we will not have any rain.

At the party stores like Party City- I found glow in the dark "Tink" star wands in the WISH green color for 99 cents. I think that will be fun to have at the start of the race since it will be so dark outside.

I have pink CEP compression socks, and they are MAGICAL.

DD and I just registered for the Princess. We will be going for the C to C medal! Guess I ought to start training. No, really.... Have been doing some training but not as much as I should be doing. All these darn holiday activities getting in the way. Did a half at the end of October. My weekly long training sessions are back up to 9 miles, so I should be good. Hope to get that 9 miles in on Dec. 26th. That should get me back on track. At least I started working on our costumes! Staying at DL Hotel, so any tips or suggestions are appreciated since this is the first time at DL.

YAY! See you at the Princess 1/2!!!!

Reading all these posts is getting me MORE excited.

I finalized my costume last night - and didnt' have to buy anything  I'm going as Minnie. I wanted to go as Alice in Wonderland (since my name is Alice) but I found her costume a bit plain :rolleyes1

I already had a red running skirt that I'm going to put white dot stickers and a black tech tee. I'll have to decide which Minnie ears to wear. I SO wanted to get yellow shoes, but don't have time to break them in. Maybe I'll get some yellow laces instead.

For those running alone, don't feel bad. I'll be alone - it's my first Disney race and I figure I'll be busy running, taking pics and soaking in the environment to notice that I'm by myself :)

It's not my first race to run by myself and I'm not too nervous about that. I actually *like* being alone sometimes - I'm around people all day every day!! :)

I am, however, always excited to meet new people. :)

Does anyone know where I could get a file of the WISH logo to send to someone? I'm hoping I can get something made to go on the sleeve of my race shirt to identify me as a WISHer!

great, thanks...I can't wait to try mine out. If I love them, I'm definitely going back for the pink ones!

I did a Minnie theme for the DL half and wore bright yellow socks instead of yellow shoes...I thought it was pretty cute! Just another option :)
