Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Hello all! :tink:

I wish they would have a sale to Orlando, or it took less miles to go to Orlando. Right now I plan on using dh's miles for the Tinker Bell since it takes less then Orlando and paying for the Orlando trip, but they keep having all these good sales to Ca and nothing for Orland yet :(

ITA! It is ridiculously expensive to get to Orlando lately! ::yes:: Hope they have some sales there soon.

Hi; I'm new to the boards and new to running. My cousin and I (33 and 30 y/o no kids) signed up for the Neverland 5k. We are staying at the Grand California. Anyone else signed up for the 5k who is brand new to running?

Congrats to all signed up for the 1/2. My knees are killing me after 2 weeks of training with the "couch to 5k" app for iphone. More power to you!

:welcome: Don't hesitate to take off a few days and take it easy on those knees! :flower3:

Hi Daiisy---Congrats on signing up for the race. I'm sure you two will have a lot of fun!! Don't be surprise that you get hooked and maybe you two will sign up for the Tinker Bell 1/2 next year. It's all about the "finishers medal" :cool1:

I'm having some knee issues too. I am training hard and keep putting in the miles. So I ice, ice, ice.

Have you also checked out the Nike+ GPS app for the iphone? I love it and so far so good !!

Hope your knees get to feeling better soon, too, Vicki! :flower3:

Stopping in to say HI!
Anyone else on this thread running with Team Up! Autism Speaks?

I'm getting SO excited- exactly 3 months to go. :yay:

California here I come :cool1:

:welcome: The race will be here before we know it!

Finally called Tickets today at DL about the whole 5k/Twilight tix thing. They said that the Twilight tix is complementary and can't be applied to a bigger tix purchase. :sad1: But still holding out hope that the tix isn't really complementary since we had to pay an extra $50 for the 5K reg. Fingers crossed there's a $ value on the tix when 5Kers pick up their bibs and we can use it to upgrade. It would really be nice and help out with the down payment.

On a happier note... 3 months out!!! :dance3: Can't wait to get back down there. All those pesky DL Halloween commercials area giving me serious withdrawal right now! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

I think that they are actually right with what they were telling you. Only because it was similar with the WDW Marathon this year and Marathon Monday. You couldn't apply the value of that day to a larger ticket purchase. It was also printed on the form that they gave us. Complimentary tickets no matter what type have no value assigned to them whatsoever. They are just a perk. It is a big disappointment but I guess I can understand where Disney is coming from. Sort of.

I honestly wish they didn't include the ticket, or made it an add on option. I was considering doing the 5k as well but was not willing to pay $100 for a 5k. I already have park tickets so the twilight ticket would be lost on me and not worth the extra $50 they are charging for the race to include the "complimentary" ticket.

I can't see Disney changing this and only continuing to do for other races. They are basically able to sell a "ticket" that costs them nothing but makes them huge money. If only half the people sign up for these 5K's, they make the same money as if they sold out at the $50 price. Less work, costs(ie shirts, timing chips, etc) so very profitable. That's the bottom line.

Agreed! My BF was just planning on coming to cheer me along for the half since he's running a full 2 weeks prioir, but thought the 5k would be fun...until he saw the price. We don't need the park ticket either and are definitely not paying $100 for a 5k! I think it should definitely be an option for those that don't need the ticket. I understand that the point is to make $$, but I'm sure we're not the only one's who decided not to do the 5k at all because of the price with the ticket included...so if the ticket was an option, they would have gotten something rather than nothing!

Yeah, I thought of that, but I was hoping that since they "threw in" the Marathon Monday tix w/ our marathon reg and didn't charge us extra like they're doing for the 5k that we could do something w/ the twilight. Oh well!

I agree w/ everybody else though about the choice for the tix. If they do it again next year, I'm just going to be doing only the 1/2 and not both. If it wasn't the inagural year, I wouldn't be doing the 5k, but I figured the weekend is a mini-splurge/tax return weekend and the race is at night, so I'd give it a try this time. I think the big thing they're overlooking is that a lot of people now have APs (or buying them if they're doing Tink and DL) and won't have any use for the extra tix, not to mention that they offer and advertise buying discounted tix for runners! :sad2:

But on a positive note, they sent out the 1st email for the race this morning. If anybody didn't get it and want it, PM me and I can email it out to you. They had a pic of the pin, it's nice~ just like the logo:

I am toying with upgrading my WDW AP to a Premier Passport. If I do the 5K it is less of a chance I will upgrade my pass because it will be of less value to me.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing just different parks! :goodvibes I'm going for the DL AP, and if it works out, Premier before Goofy '13! But I get the 5k thing, if I wasn't going to DL next Oct, in addition to the Sept DL 1/2, I think it would be better just to get individual tickets.

It's supposed to be in the mid 40's when I wake up for my long run tomorrow...I am BEYOND excited!!!! Now, looking forward to when those temps decide to stick around for a few months. :woohoo:

I hope everyone has great running this weekend!

I was looking on the Disney Store site for something and this lovely item came up in the search. I'm thinking it's a buy for the race! Just add some bobby pins and put on my running hat! Plus it'll be good for the weekend too.

I saw these in the shops when I was there for W&D...soooo cute!

I didn't get an email. :confused3

Aloha all - I will also be running Tink in Jan. It will be my 3rd runDisney 1/2 marathon. I am using the Jeff Galloway training plan but weaning myself off the run/walk intervals as I'm trying to build my half marathon endurance.

Will be staying the Grand Californian for 5 days. We extended our trip because we wanted to fly home on Tuesday instead of Monday. We did the DL 1/2 and flew home Monday and it was too soon. I wanted to sleep in on Monday and enjoy the park a bit. Had to get up at 4am to get to the airport early. Boo.

Anyone know what pace they are running? Want to get a group together?

Denise

Ohhh....kim3339...doing HNL this year? Is it your first time? Let me know if you have questions. DH is running it again this year. I refuse to do it because I can run a nicer course from my front door. But to make it more fun this year we are staying in Waikiki for a little "stay-cation" that weekend!

I'm hoping for around 2:35, but if I have a chance and it's notas crowded in the parks as DL, I'd love to PR under 2:30. We'll see...

Yes I am doing the HM this year!! It's my 1st time running there so a little nervous. Not expecting a fast run, just hoping to finish and enjoy the scenery. Where are you guys staying that weekend? I'll be at the Waikiki Hilton, close enough to the park/zoo so I can pick up the shuttle to the start and crawl home after the race and not worry about a cab. :rotfl2: No questions yet, but I will definitely hit you up before I leave for weather updates! :goodvibes

I ran the Magnuson Park Halloween race.
I did the 5K with my sister and her friend. We all dressed in matching tutu's and Mickey ears. I wore the same outfit that I did for the Princess and Disneyland 1/2 marathons. I'm pretty sure I'm ready to retire that outfit now. :rotfl:

I used this race as an introduction to running for my sister and her friend. They have been walking. But I'm trying to get them ready for the Tinkerbell 1/2 marathon (their first 1/2) and they want to have plenty of time for water/potty breaks and pictures with characters. So I started them off with 1 minute jogging and 2 minutes walking. I was originally planning on doing 45 seconds jogging and 2 minute walking, but they were fine going a little longer.

They did great! They were pretty tired by the end. But happy that they were able to keep it up.
They did the 5K in 44 minutes which is about a 14 1/5 minute mile. They were very happy about that as well.

We will be running this race again, but doing the 10K on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

When they were done, I decided to run the 5K again for time. I did it in 24:15 and was 25th overall. :yay:

Hello Tinker Bell peeps!

How's that training going?

Thought that some of you might be interested in this ticket special that was just announced. http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneyland/tickets.htm#bonustickets I'll be getting a 3 day park hopper myself. It's been awhile since I bought tickets so I don't really know if this is a good deal or not. :confused3

Our race will be here before we know it! :tink:
