Official thread for The Bachelor

During the spoilers for next week, they show Sarah TN receiving an envelop with a card saying that she can spend the night with him. Believe me, I'm not a prude, but I do have a problem with that. First of all, if the girl says no, does that put her at a disadvantage? It just seems gross to me. Sleep with a different girl each night and try them out? I know this is television, but it makes the girls seem like pieces of meat. I hope they turn it down, especially Sarah. She is an elementary school teacher. Whether they should or not, parents at her school might judge her based on her decision.

What do you think?

I think it says more about the guy, in how he handles being turned down, than it does about the girl. I would have absolutely no respect for any of those guys who take the girl up on her offer of joining him in the suite.

There have been a few shows in the past years, that have lead the viewers to believe that they slept with the women. For the life of me, I can't remember which ones, but I don't think any of the women were ever picked.

IMO, a decent guy wouldn't respect any woman who "put out" like that. Heck, I couldn't even get my DH to kiss me until we'd been dating for a week! That was a first for me, and it's the man I eventually married. :thumbsup2

I don't understand why Sarah TN would think he'd want to stay in Nashville forever. He is there for *residency*. While not technically school, he didn't have complete control over where he ended up (unless he was at the top of his class). I don't believe he's from there originally, so why would he intend to remain in the city where he got his first job forever? He's probably relocated several times for school already.

I agree, she is boooring. If he's looking for a wife, she'd be perfect.

If he's looking for a partner to be engaging and interesting, it's all about Moana. If Travis is willing to move around, it's not like they'd have to see her family all the time. A lot of people get together and not like their in-laws. It doesn't have to be a deal breaker. I think she's been edited to be the "villian" this season, which makes me think she is one of the final two.
I do not think it will be Moana b/c they would have edited her in the best light possible - this show is struggling and everyone gets VERY upset at the prospect of him picking the bad one - she might be fun to watch but generally speaking - people want to root for the good girl and someone they like - I think they would be trying to make Moana look WAY better if she were the one!

As for the fantasy suites - one girl did turn it down - and she was sent home the next rose ceremony - the bachelor was very candid that was exactly what made his decision - he did not want to sleep with her - he wanted the extra time with her - he said when they have such limited amounts of time to spend together he felt it was very important that they take all the time afforded to them to get to know each other - and when she did not do this - he felt like she was not interested in getting to know him and did not trust that he would be respectful once they were in the suite

I don't think having them stay in a fantasy suite together means straight out they are going to sleep together. I think that the girl might want to just spend some extra time with him. I don't think he expects them flat out to sleep with him and he respects them more then that.

True, but in the editing, they sure try hard to make it look like they do sleep together.

I'm talking about a show where they actually showed them going into the bedroom and shutting the cameras out. I just can't remember which one it was...

I think you are talking about the 1st episode with Trista where she wasn't chosen....I remember them closing the bedroom door on the cameras. I think the guy was Aaron?but not sure I do know it was Trista.

Trista was with Alex Michel (1st Bachelor). He really did a number on poor Trista- slept with her on the "Fantasy Overnight Date", then picked Amanda over her. THEN, he called her afterwards to tell her he may have made a mistake, and would she like to get together? What a jerk!!

But, as far as Trista is concerned, I remember her saying that the "bedroom" part of a relationship is imortant- she implied that she would be "test driving" the final 3 guys before she handed out her final rose.

The very first season with Alex - the dark haired girl from Texas turned him down - what was her name????????? She was the one arguing with Alex in the Limo about being respectful.................

Edited to add: her name was Shannon - wasn't it??

Personally, if I had a chance to talk with the guy WITHOUT cameras around, I'd jump at it. It would bother me to think that people thought it was about sleeping together, and it would bother me to think he actually WAS sleeping with the other girls for their overnights.

If this show was really about finding "the one" they would have chose 25 girls who enjoyed camping, 4-wheeling and white water rafting. Who am I kidding? Who'd watch? It's about the show.

Exactly. It seems like a lot of the people who agree to go to the fantasy suite make a point of mentioning on camera that they would love to spend some quality time talking with the other person without the cameras in their faces.

Speaking of editing...

During the preview before the commercials, they showed Sarah Tn.'s eyes bugging out when he said he was wanting to move. When the actual sequence took place, that didn't happen.

Methinks someone is trying to "plant" ideas in our heads.

I noticed that too. On the previews it looked like she had no idea he felt that way, when, in fact, they had talked about it earlier in the day and she was well aware of it.

I really like Sarah TN and have from the start. Initially it was because she is a Kindergarten teacher like me ;) but I really feel that she would make the best 'wife' for him. If he just wants some crazy adventurous person to date, then he should pick Moana. I also liked Susan in the beginning, but, like someone else mentioned, if you can't even convince your own family that you are genuine then you have some problems.

As for the fantasy suite, I personally, don't think that going to it means you are going to sleep together. In the past I know I would have accepted it with the knowledge that it was just to spend more time together. However, now that I am a Kindergarten teacher I would definitely NOT go. Kids that age can't make that differentiation, and I think it would set a horrible example. When you teach, you are a teacher 24/7/365 whether you like it or not. I think the men should respect the women who have valid reasons for not going, but they never seem to.

Okay, let's remember it's a MAN doing the picking here, not a Mom or sister! :rotfl2:

Mom and sister will pick Sara TN in a flat flying second. The parent I had a problem with was NOT as much Susan's but Sara Canada's, who should've told her daughter to grow up and never let a man see you "sweat".... be yourself???? What kind of advice was that for an insecure 22 year old???

Susan's parents SHOULD have been concerned. I'm sure they went thru the whole gamut with her and her engagement, and now she's ready for a NEW GUY? My parents went thru that with me, it's concern more than "throwing her under the bus". Reality is a parent's mantra!

Let's face it, men are hunters and Moana's like that elusive elk that keeps giving him the idea that he has to go after her and protect her. She's playing on that like a violinist, though, in the end, I don't think it will work.

Men also love to be adored, which is why he hung onto Pot Voice Sara... and I TIVO the Soup to make sure I NEVER miss her latest noise! Funneeeee!! She just was so EXCITED to be around him, try that on a man and watch him squirm....

I like Sara TN the best also, but MAN is she boring. I can imagine him being best friends with her but I absolutely see NO chemistry with the doctor. I wonder what his parents will think?

I think it'll be between Susan and Sara. Seems to me Susan was such a perfect fit that the editing made SURE that there could possibly be some doubt otherwise no one would tune in!!

Oh, well, I really need to get a LIFE!! :cheer2:

I remember seeing an interview with Trista where she said she slept with the guy she ultimately picked but not any of the others. This was before we knew she picked Ryan.

Nah, you don't. I liked reading your post. I think you're very perceptive!

I know I read somewhere - but for the life of me can't remember where - that Sarah TN had quit the kindergarten job prior to going on the Bachelor. The school system didn't like the idea of her being on it (or something like that) and she wasn't offered a leave of absence - so she quit. I wish I had the article to post the link. Does anybody else remember this?

I saw that too. The superintendent wasn't a fan of the show and her leave request had to be put in by August 1. She didn't know then that she would be on theshow. So the only way she could go was to quit. She decided it was a once in a lifetime opportunity so she went for it. Smart move. She seems like she would have no trouble getting another job. She seems good with the kids.

I heard someone refer to the fantasy suite episode as the "hump and bump" episode. I thought that was pretty funny. I doubt however that Travis will try to sleep with any of them. He just kissed Moana and Sara for the first time last week. He seems to be concerned with image and doing the proper thing. Remember when he told Sara pot-voice that he wanted to kiss her but he didn't think it would be right when 5 other girls were on that date in the other room. I thought that was pretty classy.

I don't know if this is any interest to anyone, but there was an atricle in today's Minneapolis Star Tribune about Susan. So I thought I would post it. I have never watched any of the bachelor, but the reason it caught my attention is that I graduated high school with Susan in 1999 (as did jbdreamer here on the boards). Here is the article if anyone is interested:

Is Susan just an act?

Bachelor Travis met Susan's parents over a nationally televised dinner, and they ate their daughter's lunch!

But Susan Edds, a 1999 Mounds View High grad, still made the cut at the end of Monday's installment of ABC's "The Bachelor Paris." Had Travis been one of those doctors who LISTENS to information disclosed, he would have dumped stunning Susan.

Ken and Kathy Edds, of Durham, N.C., question whether Susan is ready for a new relationship, given that she hopped from a failed engagement right onto a TV show that theoretically could end in marriage. They wonder whether their daughter is displaying her acting chops.

"You think [this is] going to launch your career in Los Angeles? You think you'll get noticed?" Ken asked his daughter. BAM!

"Acting is definitely something I'm passionate about," Susan replied, "Whatever vehicle takes me there, that's all I want."

At the dinner table, Kathy told Travis: "What if she came into the situation for the fun of it, with the idea, 'Oh, it will be fun to meet another guy, but I can get out of here scot-free because I meet a lot of guys and I don't get hooked real easily?' "

Susan dragged Mom into the kitchen for a moment of damage control, but Mom was cool and in charge. "What was my advice to you all summer?" she asked. Susan said, "Discover who you are." Mom added, "And stay loose." In an interview, Mom added, "I don't really think Susan is ready for a relationship. When you come off a long-term relationship, you really shouldn't date for a year. You really need to get to know who you are again."

When Travis told Kathy, "There's no acting between your daughter and I," Mom asked, "How do you know?"

BA-BAM! Travis did a double-take.

Kudos to Kathy and Ken! How refreshing to see parents on this reality show acting like, well, parents, instead of giddy teenage girls.

Wow, I guess I didn't realize she was from MN. Interesting!
