I would challenge him to run that 8 min mile now, though!![]()
Oh, i did!

I would challenge him to run that 8 min mile now, though!![]()
I bought my throw-away as well! Walmart had gray velour zip up thingies for $3. It is far from pretty, but will do the job and I won't feel bad about donating it.
9 min mile! I have done one just around 11, once. Dragging across the finish line... that is more than likely!!
I bought the SAME not so pretty jacket at Walmart too for $3 for my throw-way. lol![]()
OMG.. not to rain on the parade - but the last 3 miles last year were the WORST for me.. LOL I hit a wall around mile 10.... there is just so much "roadway" on this course - for such a long stretch, it's hard at the end -- and the overpass/ramp doesn't help.. LOL but, never have I just wanted to cry so much as when i saw that "big epcot ball" in the distance, and i knew i was close!! LOL
Will you be at dinner on Sat. night? My mom might want to walk with you and I would feel better knowing she had someone to walk with.
That conversation with your mom was great!
I'm doing the whole trip alone, so you definitely won't be the only one solo out there. And like the others have said, there will be others out there to cheer us on and walk/run with us from time to time.
That will probably be around my pace, so I might be a tagalong!![]()
I'll be at SSR! We won't be getting there til Friday though!!!
I like this idea. Let's hope! The same is true for me - the first 3 miles are tough and then past that point I get into a groove and just keep going! Don't let it get you down. You know you can do it! My longest run has been 10 as well. If the first 3 miles are hard, then maybe the last 3 miles will be easy! (maybe, haha)
Okay, I need some opinions... drive or cab? Pros and cons of each?
BWV doesn't have race transportation.
I'm scared too... I just keep repeating to myself the WISH motto.. that has really kept me encouraged... Dead Last Finish is better then Did Not Finish is much greater then Did Not Start. Dh is really discouraging because he feels that if you don't try to run your hardest you aren't really accomplishing anything.. I'm going at this to be able to say I finished... I'm a half-marathoner and I'm going to have FUN!!! You will be running with 1299 of your new closest friends LOL.
I keep telling myself, if I have to, I will CRAWL across that finish line! It might sound a little corny, but I'm putting a bunch of uplifting types of songs on my ipod to listen to at the end. For example, the Coldplay song Viva La Vida really gets me going when I feel crappy.
I never feel warmed up until mile 8!!
kat I would drive in if I was you.
That way you can skip bag check, not have to wait for a cab after the race and save a lot of $$$$$.
Advice I have recieved from some veteran racers is to try and use the Disney provided transportation for the event. They will drop you off at the right place and will get you there in time. You could drive to one of the host resorts and take the transportation from there.
Sailorswife, hang in there!! I know what you mean about not having a lot of support. My DH was ragging on me this weekend about how it isn't really a "race" at the pace I go at (12:00/mile run/walk intervals). He is a wonderful husband butfFor him to think it is a race I would have to be clocking 8:00 miles the whole way. I was upset about it for a while but then I realized I am an adult and I alone have the power to feel good or bad about something. For me, it is a dream to cover a 13 mile distance in any fashion. I have always wanted to run the whole thing but I can't get to that step if I don't do the step I am at now, which is run/walking to the best of my current ability. I am going to be proud of myself and my little boys will see their mommy, not as someone going slowly, but as someone who did something pretty cool.
Can you tell I've been having some struggles with this lately? I haven't trained as much as I would have liked to, but I have trained enough to finish without being too far off my goal time.
So don't listen to anyone who tries to get you down. At the end of the day, only you can instill pride in yourself. Only you can get yourself across that finish line and to meet your goal!!! So go for it and be proud of yourself, and meet yourself exactly where you are. You can do it!!![]()
I do have a car, in fact we have three among our group.
I think trying to use Disney transportation would stress me out even more. Having to figure out the right route to get there, how to get past the guard gate, how early to get there to still get a bus, etc.
I think we wouldn't wait for a cab after, would go straight into Epcot. We have an 10:30 bfast ressie.
momto2littlemonsters, we will be at the expo on Sat afternoon as well. Are you going to the POR dinner? I would love to say hi.
I am obviously Kat, but not sure how else to identify each other. Will any of you have a button w/ your screen name or anything? Maybe I should make something.
If any of you see us on Sunday in Epcot, I will be wearing a black drinking shirt with Half Marathon... Half Drinking on it. I am tall, about 30-40 lbs overweight, and the only one in the group with long brown hair.![]()
Nope - my dh is just in denial.. He seems to forget that when "he ran a 8min mile" it was 18 years ago in basic training - and he had a drill sgt. screaming at him!! LOL
He gives me a hard time sometimes (jokingly i guess) that it's not really a "race" if i am doing a walk/run.... like i am less of an athlete b/c i am not flat out just running!!
Ohhhhhhhhhhh.. that gets under my skin!!!!!
Kat...I have a question, if you don't know the answer, maybe someone else will. We are at the Swan and were planning to take a cab. There are 3 of us, leaving our hubbies sleeping in at the hotel. Which way are you leaning now? We drove from off-site last year and parked easily. It actually seemed like a very easy process...we arrived by 5:30 (equal to 4:30 this year) and headed to the corrals pretty quickly. We were planning to leave the car with the guys to drive later but people on these boards seemed concerned about cabs and getting there. Do you think that stress is due to being late or the cabs not getting close enough or cost? I'd love to hear the hesitation for taking a cab. I agree with you that "getting to" Disney transportation would stress me out way more than getting there on my own directly. I'm just not sure what to do.
Next related question...does anyone know if we could enter the front of Epcot and go straight through to the International Gateway if we have our room keys for the Swan (and tix, of course) if IG hasn't opened yet so we can take the boat back to our hotel? I know we've gone in early through that gate for dining ressies at Norway and a Segway Tour but was wondering if they'd let you go the other way. Otherwise, we have a transportation issue at the other end as well (the only car we have seats 4 so all 6 of us can't ride back in it even if we have it there).
Sorry for rambling...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I cannot believe how close this is!!!![]()

My hesitation on taking a cab is a) cost (since we have the car and that's free), b) getting a cab for 7 people, and c) that the cab won't get close enough, and/or will get as stuck in traffic as the car would thus sort of negating the reason.
However, my group is split between driving and cabbing. They are afraid of the traffic if we drive and having to leave too early. How much time did you allow to get there? Based on what they are saying from offsite directions, it looks like we just swing onto Buena Vista Dr from BWV, then right on World Dr, and then right to Epcot from there.
Yes, you can walk to the IG from the entrance to Epcot. The traffic goes both ways.
