Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I have my DD11 coming with me to do the Family 5k. Anyone else have their kids run in the 5k with them? How stringent are they on time? Just not sure about the pace with my daughter. We have not been able to get in any real training due to the 'snowmageddon'. We are still socked in with tons of snow. I am starting to worry now that she/we may not finish in time to get the medal.

Do you think the excitement of the day/race will be enough to keep us moving at a good pace? How have other kids fared?

Thanks for any inspiration!!!

one more question, please.... after the 5k on Saturday morning....

Can we walk to the front entrance of Epcot after the race? We plan to visit Epcot after the race/when it opens. Not sure how it will be roped off. I certainly don't want to have to go all the way back to my hotel (POFQ) just to catch a bus right back to Epcot.

Thanks!

Cracking up....I am so there too! Dh will be at home with our three kids
(ages 7, 2, and 2) for a little over 3 days and I think I might be more nervous about that too.

Brookie, I can relate. My biggest concern is I am breastfeeding my baby and he is not really into the bottle. My husband works a lot so we haven't had a lot of chances for him to practice feeding him. At least now my baby is eating food but he wakes up often during the middle of the night to nurse. If he wakes up after I leave at 3:30am or whatever crazy time, it is, he is going to want to nurse and my husband is going to have a problem. Then if he sleeps until the morning DH will have to manage three little people all at once, which he never does by himself. I am worried my baby will start crying (in a pop-up camper, which is not sound-proof, in the middle of the night) and my husband won't know what to do!! Silly, I know, but I don't want him to be stressed out because I will be stressed out.

I am so freaked out about it but I don't know what to do at this point. I just hope he can handle it okay. He does great with the bigger boys because he can talk to them, but the baby is another story. I am going to tell him if worse comes to worse, he can load them all in the car and drive around until the baby falls asleep!!

Yeah, my first son would not take the bottle either, so I can imagine. The twins were used to going between the bottle and nursing (they each had to have one supplement a day..lack of production, lol!), so it was much easier to get out and about with them. But I can imagine it could get pretty stressful if the baby was crying and waking the others up.

And I can sooo relate to the worse coming to worse....get in the car and drive, it it works, go for it. Just make sure you have a dvd or something for the other 2 so they don't get bored if he has to drive for awhile.

When we had the twins at Disney in Nov, they were soooo overly cranky, hard to take naps at the hotel, one day it was really bad, it was a Sunday. I dropped dh off at ESPN Zone to watch football and I just drove for an hour to take the edge off, they slept and I just drove around.

My dd9 will be doing the 5k with me and my mom as well! She did the kids "race" last year, but wanted to do the "big race" this year -- i think you will be fine. I haven't done real "training" with my dd - but over the summer/fall, we would go out on nightly walks - usually 2 miles, and finished in plenty of time for the 15min. pace requirements. I know it's not a chip timed race, but they say that you need to complete it in 45 min... but i am sure they are a lil' lenient on it.. However, the park does open at 9 i think -- LOL So, i guess they need to be off the course by then.. LOL  I think the excitement of the day will add to their speed though..
I am planning on probably walking most of the 5k, as i don't want to push it before the 1/2... but i am sure there will be sprints of jogging in there to push things along.. I did see quite a few kids doing it last year.

Caitsmama,

Thanks for the words of encouragement! We too are staying at the POFQ. We will be by the pool most of Friday :goodvibes!

The only advantage to the list that I started in my post in the beginning of this thread is that I grouped people by bib#. That way it is easier for you to find who might be in your corral.

:surfweb: as I am reading all the great things you guys are talking about I went out and got the tape today and ordered Mom and I recovery socks! :rotfl: Ok dont tell me anything else LOL well me mom usually wears knee highs all day because of her legs but they are not so good with socks and running! so maybe these will help her... I got the Pink ones :thumbsup2 And I just might be wearing them on race day to cover up all the black tape on my legs :lmao: I cant wait!!! So yesterday I went out had had to come right back my shins tighten up like crazy!!!!! I felt like I was flopping my foot because I had no control? I just want to finish.... please.... Oh and I named us team Watson but I should have said Team tomato :rotfl2: because me, my mom, and DD3 turn RED in the face BAD hehe. Ok im done rambling :goodvibes

I noticed the last couple days after doing my 10miler on Sunday, that my outer ankle is sort of hurting - when i am walking around with no shoes on - tends to hurt more - the pain seems to travel up my side of my leg (outter left side) -- do you think i was doing something wrong? I don't remember ever having this type of pain before..... Is this what taping would be good for?? (I just read about someone taping their ankles so i was wondering if that would be it..)

That's one of the many pains that I have to deal with. It could be your peroneal tendon. KT tape has instructions for taping that on their facebook page. I'm not sure if they are on their website yet.

dislvr - thanks so much for that info!! That seems to be where it is sore -- however, i don't find it as bad today.. i also googled for some strengthening exercises - maybe i will take the rest of the week off though, just to be sure - and see how i do on Sat.

My training this year for the 1/2 seems to just be full of "surprises".. i find myself asking if i want to do this again.. LOL

I ordered some today too! I got the fuchsia and black. I was thinking of wearing them race day just to keep warm! The testimonies from athletes is pretty impressive.

Shawna-- I haven't posted much but had to respond here. My kids are the same age as yours (no, that has nothing to with anything...). Last year was my first half -ok, second RACE ever- and I went into it just like you, hoping to finish under 3 hours. I could have pushed harder and taken a few less pictures but finished at 2:50 and felt great the next two days in the parks! This is so key. I went down with 3 girlfriends who are more athletic than me and they finished between 2 hours even and 2:30 and 2 of them were really hurting, had no character/castle pictures and couldn't thoroughly enjoy the two days we had. So, stick to your plan and enjoy. This year I was planning to go more for time but in the last couple weeks I've reminded myself of how much fun I had and am hoping to just shave 5-7 minutes off last year and still thoroughly enjoy every minute.

Side note---perhaps this is like labor, awful as you're in the middle but then you forget about the pain and do it all over---it wasn't easy last year, I didn't follow my 4:1 plan (too excited, I guess---just running blissfully toward the castle) and had to walk miles 8 & 9 because my back was sore. BUT, knowing to give my body a break and not push at that point, I believe, is what saved me later.

I guess I'm just reminding people to listen to your body AND remember this is Disney  so enjoy and take in every moment.

17 days.... good luck with training :cheer2:

~Jennifer

Thanks for the encouragement Jennifer! It's good to hear that I'm not the only one taking it easy during a race, it drives my DH nuts! He is very competitive, lol. It's also nice to know that my goal is attainable! Thanks again and good luck this year!! :flower3:

I tend to have 2 goals. I I start adn my "a" game is on, I go for a PR and do all I can. If I'm just not feeling it, I do what I can to have fun enroute.

For first-timers - Make your goal to finish! There is no reason in teh world ot be disappointed by anythin gafter you complete your first half marathon! :goodvibes You will never have another first, either, so you must do what you can to enjoy.

Stacy - That's racing ofr you. You just never know. You've come far enough, though, taht I'm pretty sure that even if Princess is not what you hoped, you won't let it keep you down. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Hello princesses---

I just got back from WDW for my birthday/valentine weekend and it was FREEZING cold. I hope it is a little warmer in 2 weeks but I still prefer the cold to the heat any day!

Anyway, I was shopping at World of Disney at Downtown Disney and I think I found the perfect tiara for the race. It is really small and lightweight. Best of all, it only cost 10.00. We got a 20% discount for being annual passholders so it was a little less. Anyway, if you are looking for a cheap tiara you may want to check out the one at Downtown Disney. It was located in the kids room (princess room) right by the BBB. I also noticed them in the kids section at the Emporium on Main Street.

Happy training!! It's almost time for the big day!! :cheer2:

I've been a big slacker on my training so I'm just praying that I finish with my tiara!!!

This thread is so huge!! I know it's been addressed before, but are the WISHers getting together Princess weekend?

Hi there! I posted in on the front page - second post - it's at 5pm at POR on Sat. night! Hope to see you there!!

I actually completed a half marathon on Valentine's Day in 2 hrs 11 minutes (PR). I'm not going to worry at all on my time during the Princess Run - I want to have fun & get a lot of pictures with the characters.

I think I'm getting a little nervous about going to Disney by myself, but I'm thinking about it as some much deserved "ME" time :)

Glad all of your trainings are going well - I'm ready for some WARM weather. Its snowed every day where I live for a week (which is more than I've seen in 17 years).

I'm still waiting to get my entry paper work.
I guess I won't be able to pick a Princess this close to the race.
