Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Hey all! Hope running is still going well for everyone. DH and I are visiting family in Michigan now, and the weather is HEAVEN! :)

I had a quick question about the after party. Is it going to be at DHS this year? It was last year wasn't? Is it held later in the evening on race day? I just heard ADR's are going back to 180 days so I want to start making plans! I know a lot of you didn't think it was worth it, but I was thinking it may be nice to at least hit the big rides with a shorter line!

Thanks!

Hello Again,

Just got off the phone with 407-WDW-IRUN, and was once again told we cannot add the DDP to our reservations. The woman informed me that the DDP is not available with our packages. The only way to add the DDP is to call 407-WDISNEY and book a regular package, and cancel our Princess 1/2 package. I said then we can't get the Princess rate correct, and she said yes, that is correct. I told her that we did expect a discounted rate on the dining only to add it to the package and she informed me that it is still not doable.

I am pretty heated with Disney about this issue! :headache: It does not make ANY sense to me why we cannot add this to our package. I have been nothing but pleased with them in the past, but this issue just doesn't make sense! It makes them money and saves us a lot of hassle!

Anyone have a different experience or know a way around this??? I am hoping perhaps we get a bounceback during our September trip or a great rate comes out aside from the Princess rate, but who knows?! :confused3

When I called I was nearly harassed to make it a package, but did not since we are still toying with the idea of me getting an AP. If all she could offer is tickets, why would I? And would I even get them at the discounted rate???

It is funny that we are going there to run, and not given any discount on eating since we will be starving and all...

where did you here this??? Reliable?

It is posted on the Disney web site, but it does not begin until October 27th, so while we will get more then the 90 days, it will be less than 180 and EVERYONE in that boat will be calling in!

I was curious about the dining plan also. It will be our first trip and I wondered if we could add it. I didn't ask when on the phone. Do you have a chance to add it when you check in?

thanks for the 180 day adr info.

That doesn't make any sense why you can't add the dining plan. Are you buying tickets?

we are staying on dvc for the first time so it isn't an issue. I would think they would want to sell the package??

Anyways My mom and I are starting with the couch to 5K to start with. then work from there Any advise or anything I am all ears! lol

Welcome!! At the start of my training last year for the 5K, I didn't run a second! Come race time, I could run the entire time without a stop! You will get there and you will be amazed at your accomplishment!

Hope everyone's training is going well!

Taken from the chat yesterday:
There will be a dining plan for 2010, but it will not be available for sale until September.
If you've already booked your travel via our website www.disneyworldmarathon.com or by calling 407-wdw-irun - you'll just need to call back in September to add it to your itinerary.

Wondering if someone can answer a question for me?? We are registered for the Princess 1/2 and are looking at other Disney Resorts other than the ones listed on the 1/2 marathon website...I realize if we stay at a different resort we will not have transportation to the start at Epcot, but can we just take a cab to the start. Is there something that I am not thinking about or know about that would make this a bad idea? And then for those in our group that are spectators...will they be able to utilize the regular Disney buses to get to say the TTC to watch us as we run near the Polynesian. What time do the Disney buses get going in the am to take guests to parks (not the buses for transportation for runners to the start, as we probably wont be staying at one of those resorts). Thanks so much!

You can get a taxi or drive in yourself to EPCOT, just give yourself enough time.
I drove in this year and will every year.
As for the buses I think they start running 1 hour before the park opening time.
My DH saw me at TTC, GF and the finish line.

We are getting the discounted tickets for at least 3 of the 4 of us. It all depends on the discounts/AP room rates. If there is a super AP rate I will get an AP for me and the tickets for the rest of the gang. Otherwise all 4 will get the discounted tickets.

Will the DDP be at a discount???

Sorry if I missed it before... is the route published? Or is this assuming from last year? TIA! princess:

Best way is to take the monorail to the TTC. My DH has done that when I've run the marathon. They can also get back on once they see you and try to make it over to the MK to see you again, before hopping on the monorail again for the return trip to see you finish. Traffic will be a mess with lanes/roads closed and the buses will be in that mess too.

Thanks all for your help! Another question...if "our" spectators want to see us finish at Epcot, do they need to enter the park, thus requiring them to use a park admission? That makes me think of another question...what if they went into the MK to watch, do they need to use park admission? And what about us runners? Do we use an admission day on our park tickets for the race? Thanks again!

You can watch in the MK, Main st, for free as it is before the park opens, so no ticket needed.
The finish is in the parking lot, so again you do not need tickets.
The only time you would need a ticket is if you wanted to enter a park after the race had finished, just like a normal guest would.

This may have been answered before already...but I was wondering what percentage of the runners were male last year? I am definitely going to do the Princess Half, but my brother has expressed an interest...while I am super excited (he's never run before...ever!) I want to make sure he won't feel too weird...even if my niece is the biggest Disney Princess fan ever :)

I'm not sure exactly what % are male, but watching the race this past year (couldn't run myself, too soon after shoulder surgery) there were definately a handful of male runners. My DH is going to run it this year with me, but he has told me he will NOT be wearing pink! ;)

I used to know the ratio, but now I don't remember exactly. It was something like 500 men and 7,300 women. You know, -ish. HTH
