Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

DD and I have finally started to recover from the Disney Half marathon (both of us) and the full marathon (just her, the Goofy one!). Last night, we signed up for the Princess. Today, I started training again! Oh, well! at least I don't have to start training over at the very beginning. We had a great time at the half marathon, in the sleet, snow, rain and falling temperatures.... That can't happen again in March, can it???

Surely not. :sad2:

There will be a Chear Squad for the Princess Half. Packages just went on-sale today (check under the 'Travel Details' and 'More Magic' tab on our website). And new for this year we added a reserved viewing area at Cinderella's Castle for Chear Squad gold members!

The next race always gets the most questions.......wait until next months!!!!

Thank you for posting that, syko! I never quite understood what the ChEar Squad was all about until now!

Hi everyone!!

I am thrilled to see that there are a couple of us on the same page training wise! :goodvibes

Being in week 4 of the marathonrookie plan, I decided "not" to run tonight. My right shin is bothering me - I need to listen to my body or I fear I am going to really get hurt. I have my 5 miler and 8 left to do by Sunday and Sunday is my LR - so worse case I do my 5 tomorrow and off Sat or walk the 3 miles I did not do tonight and then 8 on Sunday.

Im back teaching for the college as classes just started on Tue, and high heels and running with sore shins in not a great combo :rotfl::rotfl:

Tomorrow is my 6 month surgery appt, so I am excited to show my dr how great I am doing!! Will keep you all posted with my progress, as everyone else is doing the same!!

Happy running:goodvibes:goodvibes:love::love:

I'm looking for some tiara help! I would like something that can be worn like a headband because I don't think something sitting on top of my head will stay there for 13.1 miles. Any suggestions?

I would love to hear some advice on training. I had originally planned on running the half... then I didn't get to start training as early as I wanted (new baby and all) so I resigned myself to doing the 5k instead :headache:. Went to register for the race this morning and it was full (website said 65% full but active.com said full) so I started seeing if there was any 8 week training plans for half marathon. I found one that has me starting with 2 2-mile runs weekly w/ a long run of 4 miles and on up (5mi next week... 6... 7.. 8..9..10) to half marathon on week 8. I have been running between 1.5-2 miles 3 days a week with cross training 6 days a week. Now I found out that the 5K isn't really full, it was a glitch, but this morning I got it in my head that maybe I could do the half... which is what I wanted to do anyway. With my running base (run/walk actually... 3 min run/2 min jog/walk) currently do any "experts" think that I could manage the half? before pregnancy I was training for last years princess half and had gotten up to 7 mile long run before I found out I was preg. and then became totally sedantary (it was hard to get pregnant and a total surprise, I didn't want to do anything to jepardize the baby) Opions? Part of me thinks I can do it and part of me (largely coming from DH) thinks I can't. I'd LOVE to do the half instead of the 5k... but we did add on days to the beginning of our trip so I could do the 5K (darn ;))

Bottom line if you think you can do it YOU CAN ;)

and I am PROOF of that! Read my above post, I am 35 and only going to be 7 months post op from major cervial surgery. I am doing it - to regain my life to prove that life does not stop with a bump in the road. I have 4 children and they know I wont be first to finish or last, but I will finish it!!

Have a goal of just completing it, and then in Oct (at the food & wine 1/2) or next years Princess you can prove how fast you are! But this year just concentrate on finishing the race :woohoo:

Trust me the training wont be easy, and their will be days you question why you are even doing it --- but remember you are not a quiter! and your not only getting healthy but also doing something that so many other people make excuses not to do WHICH IS TO LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!!

Bottom line - I have 5 of the biggest "cheerleaders" - An amazing husband and 4 children who are proud of me for just doing it! They know I am crazy, but I am also setting an example that anything is possible with a little bit of work!!

Get on the crazy train, with ALL OF US!! So you have a couple of extra days in Disney that is a huge plus - if you want do the 5K too! But no excuses for the 1/2 - one step at a time and you will be fine.

PM me if you need to be reminded

I can hear you about the hubby! Mine nicely said he does not think I can do it because I started to late.... well yes I did BUT I want to do this and I am going to do this! Ever time I start I get a set back with shin splints yuck but I keep trying! I am 260lbs at 5'4 and I know all the odds are against me but dang it I want it to change my life!!!! Keep up the good work and be positive!

I'm making it a goal this year to do all the WDW 5k's-so I'm doing ESPN on Feb 28th and then the Royal Family on March 6th!

I'll also be a Disney volunteer for the Half and will be looking for all of you!!

I registered for the 5K today! It's official now! The stroller division is full, but there's still spots left for the regular division. 42 days ... I've got to get moving! :scared1:

What a great idea! I know that Wilton makes a lot of different tiaras for around $10 - $30. At least that way if you lose it, it won't be too bad. They did have one headband style one, as well as many other traditional and hair pick ones. I know when I wore one at my wedding, they put about a million bobby pins in it and that thing wouldn't budge. :rotfl:

I'm on the crazy train too. Age 34, 5'8 and 210 and I have never run before. I've done 3 5Ks but recreationally, more walking than running, and didn't train for either.

I am not planning on running the whole thing... my goal is to finish without being swept.

I started training on Jan 4th. MWF is interval training. I started the first week with a walk 5 at 3.8, run 1 at 4.5 interval. This week it was walk 4, run 1, and try to up my pace to as much as I could stand (final was walk 4.2, run 4.8). Next week I will up my intervals. I am also doing a long walk/run on Saturdays... last week was 6 miles, this week will be 8, and then cross-training on 2 days with ice hockey, and 1 rest day.

The first week I thought no way in HECK am I going to do this, but this week I feel more positive. Having the plan in place definitely helps! :goodvibes

Oh, and as a bonus, I have also lost 8 lbs!

I love Bondi Bands. They stay put and look fantastic!

Sailors Wfe (and everyone!!),

I think, if you've got it in your heart that you can do it, then by all means DO IT!!! You don't have to be the fastest...just get it done! And do not let those DH's (as much as we love them!!) tell you that you can't do it! Prove them wrong!! About 6 years ago I pleaded with my DH for us to buy a treadmill so I could work out while my kiddos napped. He held out for a while saying that I would never use it...it would be a waste of money! Well, 2 full-marathons later and 40 pounds lighter I ofter remind him that it was the best purchase of our life! He even runs several times a week now!! You ladies are all awesome. You remind me of how amazing it is to take control of our lives and be elated with every milestone that brings us closer to our goals! Lately I have sort of taken running for granted and hearing your stories of success is really inspiring! Keep it up!!!
