I tried to extend my trip - as my fellow mwg members im staying with decided to stay another week (dvc). Im off another week after getting home - but wife says no flight home .. Another airline would be. 3 times the roundtrip 118.00$ we scored for me to go plus wed eat the return ..
And then id need 5 days of hoppers and food .. A no go !!! With our fam trip in sept .
I was hoping to march your weekend as well and do the 24 hr day .. But not in the cards for this trooper ! Im glad i have what i do , and it will be a blast , good friends - disney- star wars - awesome food - rides - 501st - legion dinner - swag - marching 3 days instead of just 1 - and then possible getting disney merch ??

Win / win ;)

Refresh my memory, what day are you marching the first weekend?!

Ash pretty much covered al the basics !!

Really its if you have the star wars bug . Decide -- good guy ? Or bad guy ??

Whos my favorite ??

Then. Decide for my body type and height what it going to work for me that will be an awesome character (costume) to become ??
Male or female makes really no difference ... :) Its who do i want to portray

Then do some research !! Find your local chapter per state of the 501st , rebel legion , ( currently the only two clubs allowed to march at disney )
But there are other clubs out there mercs, jedi assembly dozens more im sure .
Then go to the detachment site and forums for the costumes your interested in .... I will say .. Its not a cheap hobby . There are many rules and regulations , entry is at times challenging -- but entirely and completely worth it ..
Nothing is better than voulentering your time and efforts to raise money for needy charity's and sick kids -- even trooping birthdays etc..
And there are perks at times - weird al, symphonies , star wars weekends , relay for life, lego land , dozens of family fun events ... And those we hold close to our hearts . Childrens hospital visits, make a wish, cancer walks. Relays , autism events ,lfl requests , special olympics and man many others ..

Its as with anything - you get out of it what your willing to put into it ..
And the benefits outweigh the financial investments ..
That said costuming is not an inexpensive hobby - do not be mislead
Some are cheaper to build than others .
And their are different makers of our wears at different costs '
There are easier costume to build / assemble/ sew/create than others as well .
Not to mention a high and specific attention to detail to be accepted for many costumes ..

Which is not to detour those interested in joining these clubs .
The 501st and the rebel legion are chocked full of willing and handy peoples from all backgrounds and abilities - who are always willing to lend a hand , instruct , assist, and help or direct you where you need to go for everything you may need to know . Purchase build , or make to complete your costume ..

Were a great big extended world wide family with similar likes and a collective fandom of star wars ( and for some disney as well )
Feel free to join us wed love to have you !!
Just remember to keep it fun it a hobby . Dont let it take over your life . Unless you want it to ;)

Feel free to message me or ash we can answer most things .. And what we cannot we can find out for you ;)

Ditto on all fronts. I'm happy to help however I can. And I can honestly say, nothing makes me happier than watching a kid's face light up to see me and my guys in costume at an event. It is a rush that cannot be described. It will be hard for me to keep my "military bearing" during the parade, but, the mission come first there.

Gotchya, I put it in my planner so I can make sure we catch one of your parades :)

We will just be landing in Orlando when people line up for the first day, BUT depending on when our FP are for celebrities we will make either Saturday or Sunday, and we will also be making Ash's the following Saturday :)

I am tall like you, but only 6'1"

I'm recording the first parade, the one on Friday, I'll have my tripod set up at the crossroads, so I'll be directly in front of the gates you come out.

Cool. I will want to see that video before I go! Like watching game film before next Sunday.

@ Student - Wow. I should be able to find you in the crowd. A tall red-haired lady should be easy to spot!

I'll try and post all videos that first Friday night. No hoopla videos so no spoilers worries

Is there much of a difference in crowds for Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th? I'm starting to stress myself out. 4th trip to Disney in 8 years but first SWW. This thread has been so helpful!!! Just trying to make the best of our short trip, only 3 1/2 days total. Plan in making our HS day ADR free.

Also, I've been checking the 10 day forecast. This morning they called for 60% chance of rain for Orlando, now it's 10%.

I'm actually gonna miss Hoopla this year, so, I would not mind a video. But, I will defer to others who may not want any spoilers. I can go digging it up somewhere.

Yes ,
As fat as disney its basically the same every day
For the troopers were staged up per costumes
And it varies by march due to us out of towners
Wearing different costumes and different amounts of us per days or weeks

So the # of troopers change , as do the costumes

They're about the same if you ask me, Friday will just have longer merchandise crowds.

That's what I figured. I'll keep my day as Friday. Getting excited, can't wait for my little guy to see everything.

Character waits were about 20-25% longer on Saturday than they were on Friday. Hundreds of people stand in a very long line for merch on Fridays too.

Can everything get done in two days (last Friday and Saturday)? We could technically dedicate Sunday to SWW as well, but I'd rather take in another park for the day if possible.

Including all the special shows and character meets? It could be done, but you'll be busy. Are you doing non-sww stuff too?
