Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

So they released the Dooney design for Tink - which is in May...after Dark Side...which is kinda weird, right? For light side, they didn't release the Dooney pattern until maybe a week or two before. Just wondering...
I think they make more money from the Tink and Princess Dooneys - those are the only ones that sell out consistently and the only ones that do pre-orders. So they want to drum up the excitement for those bags. That's my guess, anyway. :confused3

It would be time consuming (but a great taper project, lol!), but how about tacking on red ribbon? Just the minimum number of loose stitches needed to keep them on through a ace. Afterward, just snip the stitches out. I've done that for various pieces and it shouldn't leave holes or anything.

Smart!!

Yeah, I hope they fix that. At least the crowds thinned out after mile 1 of this year's 10K to a point where I could go my usual pace instead of leisurely slow stroll through the backstage of DCA.
I agree - it didn't really thin the crowd to emptiness, but it did spread things out well enough.

I'm much better at planning run craft ideas than I am at actually executing them, lol!

How many park days are you looking at? I'm not sure if the cost is justified for just the race(s). Honestly, most of the PhotoPass photos taken during the Star Wars race weekend at Disneyland involved me looking at the wrong camera. While that's not the fault of the photographers, it's an argument against purchasing Memory Maker for race photos alone.

Now, if you get extensive use out of the PhotoPass photographers in the parks, it's a different matter.

We're doing at least 4, perhaps 4 1/2 park days. I'm planning on hitting up some Character Spots, but don't want to spend a ton of time in line (or burn fast passes) for those. I'm thinking with an active 1 year old it might be best just to grab him, hold him up at a photo pass spot for 30 seconds than try to find someone to take pictures of all of us, hahaha.

Where do they release the designs so I can follow along, haha? I LOVED the design for the Light Side, but I'm afraid I'm going to be bummed by the Dark Side design because I just don't love the evil characters as much :( Is there any way to get the Light Side bags without paying an arm and a leg on Ebay now?

That's enough park days to get good use out of it even without the race photos. Also, don't be afraid to have the PhotoPass photographers use your camera for pictures as well.

Disney announced yesterday that BB-8 will begin greeting guests at DHS this spring. I read today in the comments section of the article on the Disney Parks Blog that he will debut during the Galactic Nights event held concurrent with Star Wars Celebration Orlando and will then greet guests regularly from then on. Note that the original article does not say when he will start, but Disney notes it in the comments section.

So get ready for another photo op. And for those of us who earned the BB-8 medal during the Star Wars 10K at Disneyland, it's another reason to take that medal back to Orlando.

I'd missed the comments on the post, thanks! And good thing my medals are on my packing list. I might put them in my suitcase now so I don't forget!

Mine are going in my carryon. Just in case. Now hauling all of 8 of them around the parks after the race will be interesting. And yes, there will be some photos involving me wearing all 8 medals.

Mine will go in the carryon eventually. In the meantime though I'm thinking if I put them in the suitcase they won't be left behind one way or another. But there will be photos of me with a million medals as well! Not looking forward to carrying them around the parks, but looking forward to those photos!

"all the medal" pics are the best pictures! I love when people (non RunDisney people) look as we pull them out out of the backpack and arrange for pictures, like what on earth are they doing!
I put each medal in a sock in my backpack to haul around so they don't bash each other, but yeah the weight adds up fast, especially now that the 5k is metal too.

I'm looking forward to Launch bay & Star Tours area pics with the Darkside medals, hope BB-8 isn't crazy long lines, that place isn't big enough for it to build up too much I would hope.

Got our FP+s booked, have ROL for our first night, the 19th, the first show, figure we won't be tired out yet and if we really like it, we can see it again at the end of the trip.

I love some BB-8 so I'll have to try to fit that in at some point. :)

I registered for the Dark Side Challenge over the weekend - wasn't planning on running it but I saw it was still open for registration and couldn't help myself... I did the Light Side half in January so I hope training won't be a big challenge.

I scanned through this thread but I have a couple questions...

Do I get the Kessel Run medal and the Coast to Coast medal both? Or just the Kessel run medal? Do I register at the expo?

Yes. Here is what it says on Run Disney's site. "At the race weekend where you earn your Coast to Coast Race Challenge medal, Kessel Medal, or Castle to Chateau Medal, runDisney staff will identify you as an eligible participant during packet pickup."

I made FastPasses this morning and am happy with what we got. I was just sad there were no Everest past 5 when the park closes at 9:30. Hopefully it's open to ride!

The sock on each medal is a great idea!

2 Fastpasses set for Saturday at EPCOT! I think that it is the only park we are planning on this trip.

My hip is feeling way better (thanks I I think to sleeping on my other side, which I guess I'll continue to do, I mean it's crazy that you can hurt yourself or aggravate something sleeping), started the week with run/walk intervals then by the end of the week was back to running mostly without them. Finished the week yesterday with a 10 miler, that felt pretty good, my hip just hurt a little at the end (the farthest I've gone since last Nov) and my heal only a couple times...but the BEST part is we have unusually warm temps 60-70 in the afternoon, so I was able to test my sewn tank and skort even in with our am temps and even ditched my jacket halfway through yesterday. I may have looked like Palpatine out there with such pale skin, but it's so nice running in no layers right now! I tested my other sewn skort on Friday as well, and none of the pieces fell apart so that's a plus I figure!! This sewing of running clothes could become a bad habit.

We're supposed to drop back to 40 at end of the week, but have a few more warm days still at least here and hopefully no more freezing temps in the future or a snowstorm.

Just about 2 months to go Darksiders, I'm so excited now that FP+ are booked & I'm not hurting all day!!!! Hope you all's mileage is going well and injuries aren't building up.

Fastpasses made! Online check in done!

Also - they opened up Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party for the rest of April! So I booked us for that the night of the half. Thought it'd be a good way to end the day

I think that I've read that it continues running but is either Stand By only or fastpasses are available day of. I'm looking forward to riding it in the dark!!

We are having the unusually warm temps too! It was 70 here yesterday, mid to high 60s today. It's supposedly supposed to continue through the week, which is definitely helping me stay motivated for the February run streak that I'm participating in!

I woke up this morning not feeling great, then realized it was fastpass day and I hadn't set an alarm to remind myself. It was easy to get what we were looking for - more so than our other recent trips. So glad the dessert party opened, too.

Beautiful weekend in Michigan. Hanging out trying to figure out if I'm feeling well enough to run or if I just rest and give it a go tomorrow. Figures this would happen when the weather is so lovely!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
