Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

I got in for the Dark Side Challenge. I was so concerned that I would miss out, but I'm surprised only the 10K is filled up!

Apparently it happened the same way for the AP/DVC holders as well.

To be clear, the 10k is not really full. The individual 10k race spots are sold out, but there are still 10k spots available for Challenge participants, and I believe that the Challenge allocation is exactly the reason that the 10k is always the first race to fill up:

10k: ~12,000 total spots - 7,000 challenge spots = ~5,000 individual 10k spots
Half Marathon: ~20,000 total spots - 7,000 challenge spots = ~13,000 individual half marathon spots

5k: I don't know how many total, but I would assume 10,000-12,000 (similar to the number of 10k spots, maybe a little less), but since there is no challenge allocation, all 10,000-12,000 spots are available as individual race spots

Me, the bf and lil sister are all signed up to the challenge and 5k! We are all far too excited we thought the next time we would be back for RunDisney would be marathon weekend 2018. Costumes are already being discussed!

Quick question - are all hotels host resorts? We're coming from the UK so wanna get hotel/flights booked soonish.

Yes, all Disney resorts are host resorts. Swan/Dolphin and Shades of Green also get runDisney transportation.

So, is it wrong that I already have plane tickets, a hotel reservation, and a car rental reservation, but no race registration? Well, here's hoping that all goes well tomorrow.

We had our hotel room at the Grand booked long before DVC member registration. Waiting for a sale on airfare. We bought park tickets already (getting the Parksavers deal), and we never rent a car, so we're nearly set unless we want a day at Universal ... in which case we'll buy the tickets and a shuttle at the same time.

I just registered for the Half! So excited for this! I've wanted to run this since I first heard about it, but last year when I got home from work, it was already sold out. So I was super excited it was still open when I got home from work this year!

So in addition to registering, I also pre-ordered the pin and the jacket. I will definitely be getting those items guaranteed, right? No matter if I show up late on the last day of the expo, those two items are for sure mine in my size since I pre-ordered them, right?

Yes, when you preorder an item, you usually get it right when you get your race bib. Larger items like the jacket, you pick up at the gift shop (at least they did it this year for the Dark Side Challenge).

Well, DW and I are continuing our problem... I mean stretch of WDW races. We can't do the challenge this time due to a meeting on that Friday, but we are excited to have an event we can be legacy runners for!

I priced out SOG yesterday, but haven't been able to commit to it. I'll have to talk to my running buddy and see what she thinks.

So I've watched the Rogue One trailer about 10+ times already. Hoping to see some great Rogue One costumes from the 501st along the course!

Signed up myself and DH for the 5K! I'd already registered for the challenge, but I wanted to do the 5K together. It'll be his first rD race, he's a SW fan, and he's always up for costumes, so I think it'll be a fun time!

And yes, Rogue One looks amazing. I know it's an unpopular opinion among some fans, but I think those AT-ATs on the beach are so cool! And beach troopers!

That would be cool! The trailer looked cool, reminds of reading some of the books (that I know aren't canon anymore but still...)

Also I emailed RunDisney on the Kessel Medal to clear things up (no lightside for me however & not sure if this was already posted, if so sorry for repeating) & wanted to share how they state it's 3 races to get both kessel & c2c, not sure why they don't spell it out online....

You must complete the Star Wars Half Marathon or Star Wars Rebel Challenge at the Disneyland Resort and Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side or Star Wars Dark Side Challenge at the Walt Disney World Resort in one calendar year. A calendar year is defined as January 1 to December 31.

If you desire to earn the original Coast to Coast medal, you will need to complete a third half marathon or longer at the Walt Disney World Resort or the Disneyland Resort within the same calendar year.
