Official Star Wars Half Marathon Thread...Jan 15-18th, 2015!!

With training and attempting to eat right, has anyone else started to think about where to eat and not totally kill your diet? Lol

This is our first trip to DL so it's going to be hard to stay within certain limits pre races, breakfast will prob be the easiest. Planning on the unhealthy Blue Bayou Monte Cristo on Thursday for lunch. That's about how far I've gotten. For the most part I think it'll be fine to indulge alittle but not overdo.

Stupid question here...what is that on the 1/2 medal? I can't make it out and I really only know the major characters.
Thanks!

oh thank you for posting!!!!

Of course, now I really want to run this! 2016 here I come:wave2:

The medal design itself is perfect and a homage to this iconic ending

Anyone else think they should have switched the challenge and 1/2 sashes?

ROFL! Ok, I do know him at least. ;) I'm just not seeing it on the medal. Probably once I see it in person it will all make sense. Just a little over 2 months!!!:cool1:

Thank you for posting, we have been waiting impatiently for pictures lol. These look great! I'm so glad they had one resemble the Medal of Yavin ! Also looks like it's a spinner like the Avengers. I noticed the Rebel Challenge medal has Yoda on one side of the spinner and Vader on the other.

And my daughter loves R2D2 ( or RDD2 as she likes to call him) so she's going to love getting the kids race medal

Wow... wasn't expecting a storm trooper for the 10K... had been hoping we'd get R2D2. Really underwhelmed, especially since the ribbons have huge sierra nevada homages on them... wish we'd done the 1/2 now, its the only one I like (well I like the kids races one too of course but that ship has sailed, lol!)

I love them all! Rebel Challenge and Kids races are my favorite! So glad DD is doing the kids race...wonder if she'll let me hang her medal on my medal hanger lol!

Having had a couple of days to process the medals and fully geek out over them, I can now post coherent thoughts about them. Just keep in mind that my take is colored by the fact that when I was just 2 years old my parents took me to Disneyland for the first time and a couple of months later took me with to see Star Wars in theaters. The rest as they say, is history. And yes, I made my avatar long before Disney ever bought Lucasfilm. :rotfl2:

I'll rank them from least favorite to favorite according to the races.

5K: I'm not doing this race. I think the medal is fine and I get the choice of C-3PO.

10K: I am doing this race. I'm not a fan of the stromtroopers so that knocks this medal down for me somewhat. That said, I like the medal design especially the ribbon that so clearly calls the distinctive stormtrooper armor to mind. Maybe someday they'll do a Darth Vader medal like this. I would be very happy with that.

Kids Races: Maybe runDisney will sell me one of these. Or maybe I can race on my knees and be an unusually tall child. :rotfl: Having R2-D2 on it is cool enough, but having the ribbon call his design to mind is beyond awesome. I'd buy an R2-D2 hoodie if Disney made them in adult sizes because R2-D2 is that cool.

Rebel Challenge: Honestly, there was an initial tinge of disappointment when I first saw it. But that is by and large because I had convinced myself that any Heroes of Yavin IV inspired medal would be for the Rebel Challenge. I love how the medal calls to mind the both the emblem of the Rebel Alliance and the emblem of the Jedi Order. The ribbon just feels like Star Wars and having the spinner feature both Darth Vader and Yoda is a nice touch. It's a superb medal.

1/2 Marathon: After my initial excitement over the announcement of the Star Wars 1/2, my thoughts turned to the amazing possibilities for medals themed to Star Wars and my super Star Wars geek dream: a medal that brings to mind the medals Princess Leia gives to Han Solo and Luke Skywalker at the end of Star Wars. So when I saw this medal, I thought now my geekiness is complete.

It's so clearly a homage to that famous medal. And upon a closer examination of the ribbon, the ribbon calls to mind Chewie's fur and bandolier. Almost as if runDisney is making up for Chewie somehow not getting his medal in A New Hope. As a huge Star Wars fan, I can say that the 1/2 medal is perfect. I've tempered my expectations for the medal in the back of my head saying that they would not actually make the medal I wanted them to, but would be happy with it anyways since it's Star Wars. But then runDisney went and did what I wanted them to. Now, if they will just play John Williams music titled The Throne Room in the finish area, I just might become one with the Force from geek overload. But I'll have the iPod ready just in case. But now I have to keep training.

Very nice review! My DD loves the kids race medal, surprised me because she loves Princess Leia and I figured she wouldn't want it and give it to me afterwards lol. I am happy to see her excited about it. Wish I had put her in the ToT Kids Races.

My dad ran his first race at DL in August and thought he would be a one and done. I tried to warn him. Lol.

We're running the Rebel Challenge and he would really like to do the 10k. Does anyone know of a travel provider with slots still available?

And I saw the medals at Swim & Dine this weekend and they're amazing! I'm regretting not signing up my kids when I had the chance! I think this might be the first time I've loved every single medal!

I would try acclaim, last email they sent out they still had 10k spots. They are really nice and he would get a 1 day non hopper ticket. I've booked hotel, park tickets, 5k and Rebel Challenge through them.

Charities may also have spots available. Just keep in mind that if you run for a charity, you're on the hook for the commitment level. If you don't reach it, then you'll be paying out of your own pocket.
