Official Star Wars Half Marathon Thread...Jan 15-18th, 2015!!

Looking for your expert opinions.. I am planning in registering for the Rebel Challenge for myself and DW when registration opens on Tuesday. I will be sitting at my computer 15 minutes before registration opens and hitting refresh till registration opens.
How fast do you think the remaining spots will sell out? Am I going to have time to register both my DW and myself before it's sold out?

I really think this race will sell out faster than any of the others. Based on the previous races at Disneyland I would suggest that your DW be at her own computer registering for the race as well. Good luck.

This isn't directly related to the SW 1/2 marathon, but I figured this would be the best place to ask! Does anyone have a good online source for Star Wars running gear? Especially shirts? I'd love to get DH something like this that's SW themed for Father's Day! We're still trying to figure out if we can go to DLR for the SW 1/2, but at the very least I know he'd love it for the W&D 1/2 in November :)

I just got these on Amazon, search Boba Fett performance shirt and for the darth vader one search Star Wars men's sithness shirt.

My friend is registered for the 10K and I for the Rebel Challenge - probably nuts since I have radiation and possibly chemo ahead of me for the next several months but I can always defer - and I need a goal![/QUOTE
Hope you feel up to the 10k, my husband is doing chemo now and is doing his first 10k at disneyland 1month after his last treatment. We looked at this as something to look forward to and a great way to celebrate life. Best wishes for you and your family.

Does anyone know if you can run in costume my husband is a Stormtrooper & was not sure if they would allow it?

Costumes are fine and encouraged. I have worn many different costumes in the numerous Disney races I have done and enjoy doing so, however I do recall something on the runDisney site that mentions something about covering or obstructing your face during the race. A hat is fine but a Stormtrooper helmet is a different story.

Ludari is right, costumes are encouraged, you just can't have things covering your face. I'm not sure he'd want to run in his armor anyways. My running buddy did a 5k in his once and said it was slow and uncomfortable.

Make sure after you hit refresh you also scroll down and look for links. I make this mistake every time, I hit refresh and the page looks the same so even though the links are active I don't see it. It only take a few refreshes before I remember to scroll down but I always get a moment of panic that I'm on the wrong page of the website or I have a glitch.

You should have enough time to register both of you, I was able to register for both the RC and the 5k today before the RC sold out (less than 8 minutes), just have all your information and your credit card ready to go so you don't lose time having to find emergency phone numbers, CC numbers, shirt sizes, etc.

I was surprised how quickly the Rebel Challenge sold out today, I'm guessing it'll sell out next week anywhere from 10-30 minutes tops.

I am not feeling confident I will get into the SW race. I too will be at the ready at my computer before noon.

I am more than sure this race will sell out within the first 30 minuets.

I did already book a hotel which I can cancel if I don't get into this race...but what a disappointment.

So unless you are at your computer at noon...I doubt there will be anything left later.

I remember the last race I signed up for...even if I wanted to run the Dopey challenge...it was sold out so friggen quick, I didn't have a shot.

Don't think that way, just try to be ready 15 min before. Also remember you can always raise money for a charity spot

UGH.... I hate having to make grown up decisions!!! We just found out we need a $4k fix on our roof. SOOOOO that means we are out for Star Wars. BUMMER! I will NOT be continuing with Hotel and "I'm in" part of this thread...but it can still keep chugging along with all your questions and comments though.

Jessica- Since you like doing threads as well, do you want to start one in the Events/Competition section (same as this one) with a "where are you staying Star Wars thread?)

I can post a link to it on the front page of this thread....

Have fun guys and Dig Deep!!! Michele

Hi Michele - I'm right there with you. Trying to make a grown up decision about this when the kid in me is saying "GO! DO IT!" I don't have an AP right now (the one year of course!) or DVC so I have a few days yet. On one hand, it's a nice holiday weekend and I really really enjoyed Tink out there this year. I really love DL races and I can't do Tink in may. On the other hand, I did promise my family that the next time we went to DL it would be for an actual vacation, not run-cation. And I can't take DS out of school that week and DH can't be off more than 1 day, so it would be just the weekend (i.e. a run-cation, not vacation). If only I had limitless funds... and here I thought running really only cost a pair of shoes..... :rotfl2:

It was hard enough skipping Avengers but after 3 Disney race weekends in 4 months, my running funds made that an easy decision. It was also helpful that I was exhausted from training when it was announced!

Honestly you'll be fine as long as your at your computer and ready to go as soon as registration opens. Its the people who forget or try to register 15-30 minutes after it opens that are going to deal with races being sold out already. Remember that general registration has many more spots than AP/DVC early reg.
And if for some reason you don't get in on Tuesday, you can try to get a spot through a travel agent also or get on a team thats fundraising for charity.

I was able to register for the rebel challenge and DD is registered for the kids races. Now to decide where to stay....

Personally I would take the chance. What if you get your registration complete and it's sold out before you can do the second one!! Then what???

I think saying 30 minutes is being optimistic. I really think this one is going to get people's heads spinning it's going to be so quick. Remember, a DL race has fewer spots than a WDW race and this thing is like fire.

Good luck to you. Good luck to all of you. I can't make it this year, BUMMED, but look out 2016!!!

I am sure it will sell out fast but with the tips posted here we will all register.

I always have my auto form fill data turned on so it will fill my data (google chrome) and I copy and paste my CC to a word doc or something before hand to have it ready too. There are some competitive kids clothing uploads out there that have taught me how to buy something online really fast LOL

Since I am a newbie I think I am just going to do the 10K, I don't think I can do the RC. I thought about 5K and 10K possibly... I have a long time to ready but 10K and 1/2 scare me as of right now!

:)

Just received this months Runners World in the mail and after a few pages..... Star Wars 1/2 advertisement! For some reason seeing that made the race even more real!

Hey all, just found this thread. This will be my 2nd Disney Half Marathon and my 4th Disney race. (2011 DL Half 5K, 2012 DL Half Marathon, 2013 Inaugural 10k and now Star Wars Half). My amazing DW (Pikaboo27) is doing the Star Wars 10K the day before too.

Super excited. We just booked one of the Resort Suites at the Carousel Inn and Suites rt across from the DLR Pedestrian entrance. and what a deal we got!

Anyways, still debating whether to have our (will almost be 3 year old) run the kids races. He did the 100 yard dash last year and while he had fun, the management of the race was aweful!
