I'm pretty much a Star Wars Movies only type of guy. I don't know much/any "Expanded universe" stuff. If I wanted to know the back story of this Hondo guy what would I watch/read?

I don’t know about reading material, but Hondo is a recurring character in the animated series Star Wars Clone Wars.

He is in a number of books and comics along with Clone Wars

Hondo is all over the place. He first shows up during Clone Wars, he's also on Rebels. He's a pirate who sometimes helps the good guys but is mostly looking out for himself.

Probably the most relevant piece of information to Smuggler's Run is the young adult book "Pirate's Price". It goes into detail about how Hondo meets Han and Chewie before the fall of the Empire as well as how he ends up with the Falcon on Batuu. It's written in his voice and gives you a really good idea of how he acts in both of the shows. It's a quick read at around 200 or so pages.

I hope that GE being open to all already today bodes well for our trip in mid October. We would like to go to DHS on our arrival day and get our first look at GE (with no expectation of getting on the ride). We wouldn’t be getting there until about 5 PM and I don’t want to find out that all passes for the day are gone already. Hopefully by then the VQ will not be needed at all.

We will be doing the 6AM EEMH at least once to get on the ride and do some of the other DHS rides.

What time did you do this? I am confused how you got a time. It just gave us a group number and then an estimate of when (late morning).

I joined a boarding group at 6am and then at 7 I saw we had a boarding number and could return up to 8:58am.

There was, a red AP band and a blue one.

Those were limited releases, I mean the LE's that come in a box and usually only 1,500-3,000 are made.

Yes and those were made for the opening. They didn’t make any open editions. Maybe they will eventually.

I think the falcon queue will settle at the 80 minute mark nightly on high crowd days, it is really a fast loader if people would listen to the cm calling their crew color.
For theme and continuity the holding room is awesome but it might have been a mistake to put it where it is in the queue. I don't blame people for wanting to spend time in there but in reality you only have about 30 seconds to walk around and take pictures before your color is called and the efficiency of the ride depends on people being ready to board as soon as the color is called .
The holding room is already a topic of discussion with the managers on how to make it a better experience for both guests and efficiency of boarding
