Just now joining this thread. Husband and 17 year old daughter are huge SW fans; I like it but am not obsessed like they are, lol. I happened to be searching the Disneyland forums last night because my sister, who lives in SoCal, just announced that she's getting married in July, and we decided to piggyback a short DL trip onto the trip we'll make for her wedding. I read that there was speculation this announcement would come today, so I hopped onto the DL booking site and reserved a room for our dates. The GC was already sold out for everything except CL rooms. Given that the rumor was true, I'm so grateful to the Disboards that I had the heads up and was able to get a room booked prior to the mad rush!

Bummed about the delayed opening of the 2nd attraction and not being able to use FP for Smuggler's Run initially? I wonder how long the "no FP" thing will last??? We booked July 8-10, so maybe since the "reservation" for SWL won't be required then they will have FP up and running by then??? Fingers crossed! Super grateful to be staying onsite and at least have EMH though.

We also have a BB WDW trip already booked for Christmas week, and H and I are VERY surprised at the early opening there. We were just at WDW 2/23-3/2 and SWL didn't look anywhere near ready for prime time based on what we saw...but the powers that be must be very confident that they can get it done given that they've officially announced an opening date.

No Fast Passes, huh? I don't know what to think about that. Anyone got a reason for this?

I believe it will allow them to manage crowds more efficiently. Honestly the lack of Fast Pass will allow standby the run much quicker.

No fast pass makes sense. That's how Universal did Harry Potter when it first opened too. Having a fast pass line makes the standby line go much slower. This way, the standby line will be (relatively) quicker and everyone will be in the same situation. Of course, people who want to pay more for hotels with magic hour, etc. will have that option.

Couldn't help it... shifted my dates to leave WDW on 8/30 now instead of 8/29 just to witness the insanity...

I’m really upset. DL is going to have a no cost reservation system. So I still can’t risk booking international flights to be there on the 31st May as I don’t know over a 10 day visit if I will even get in the land.

Thanks Disney. Will never be buying an AP again.

No FP? I can't even imagine how long those lines will be! I'm more comfortable with no FP than with selling access through paid FP. I can't imagine us devoting that much time to 1 ride's line, but it would be nice if we could at least walk around a little if it's going to be open during our November trip.

I have a reservation Aug 20-28 (free dining), to get in one last relaxing trip to the World before the chaos. I had no interest in being there opening day. I mean I'm a Star Wars junkie but could not deal with the crowds. But now that our trip is so close to Opening Day I'm having an internal struggle.

What about booking a one night stay at a DL hotel, that way you would be guaranteed admission on one day. I just booked one for May 30th, so I would get the 31st admission to SWGE. As of 5 minutes ago, there was availability.

Are you staying on site? Because I think the announcement said that everyone staying at the DL resort hotels would be guaranteed a time. I read the DL parts quickly, but I think I saw that.

Is there a watch thread for AP previews like there was for Pandora? Thanks to you guys, that was the only way I found out about the Pandora previews (I hardly ever get the AP emails)

I’ll be 8 months pregnant for opening day and not 100% sure if I’ll be able to do that, so the earlier the better! Even if it is just by a week.

It said "Reservations required between May 31st and June 23rd" and also "Capacity is Limited." I read that as "If you are staying at a DL hotel with a package you MAY get in." I think if you stay at a Club Level room you WILL get in. As of a few minutes ago there were still DL hotel rooms that weekend for $410 a night - That won't last long.

It says dlr hotel guests will receive a designated reservation during that time frame.
